Welcome to the Dino Race Game!
Are you ready to embark on an exciting adventure where dinosaurs race to the finish line? Well, you’ve come to the right place! In this game, you’ll take control of a mighty dinosaur and compete against other players. But before we dive into the action, let’s go over some important rules and guidelines to ensure a fair and thrilling experience for everyone.
1. Choosing Your Dinosaur
As you prepare for the race, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your dinosaur. Each dinosaur has its own unique abilities and strengths. Some dinosaurs may have incredible speed, while others possess remarkable agility or endurance. So take your time to consider which dinosaur suits your racing style best.
2. The Race Track
Now, let’s talk about the race track. The game offers various tracks, each with its own challenges and obstacles. From dense forests to rocky terrains, you’ll encounter different environments that require adaptability and quick thinking. So keep an eye out for sharp turns, slippery slopes, and any surprises that may be waiting for you along the way!
3. Power-Ups
During the race, you’ll come across power-ups scattered across the track. These special items can give you temporary boosts, such as extra speed, increased stamina, or even a shield to protect you from obstacles and attacks. Be sure to grab these power-ups whenever you see them – they can make a significant difference in the outcome of the race!
4. Race Etiquette
In the Dino Race Game, we value good sportsmanship. It’s essential to treat your fellow racers with respect and fairness. Avoid any form of cheating or sabotage that may disrupt the race. Remember, everyone is here to have fun and enjoy the thrill of the competition!
5. Have Fun!
Above all, remember to have a blast! The Dino Race Game is all about excitement and enjoyment. So buckle up, hold on tight, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure as you race your dinosaur towards victory!

So, here’s the thing. We don’t really have a clue about how the dinosaurs disappeared. It’s like a big mystery. But listen, I’ve got a fun idea. You can play this awesome game where you have to outrun other creatures and make sure you don’t get caught in their tricky traps! It’s all about survival, just like those dinosaurs had to do.
What You Need

- There are 12 terrain tiles, with 3 for each tile and lava tiles on the back
- There is 1 volcano tile
- You have 40 movement cards, with 8 for each terrain type plus 8 wildcards
- You also have 12 special cards, with 4 for each type of special action
- There are 8 dinosaurs, with 2 for each species
- There is 1 dinosaur egg
- There is 1 event die
- You have 4 egg counters
- There are 12 prize counters
- There are 22 lava drops
Objective of the Game
Your goal is to bring your dinosaur couple to the end of the race track. When one of your dinos finishes the race, you will receive a prize counter, which will award you points. You can also score points by successfully bringing the egg to safety. The player with the most points wins!
Game Setup
To start, let’s prepare the race track. Take the volcano tile and place it with the “quiet” side facing up. This will indicate the beginning of the track.
So here’s what you need to do: we’re going to use 12 terrain tiles, where each type (plains, desert, swamp, jungle) is represented by three tiles. Cool, right? Now, grab those 12 tiles and give ’em a good shuffle. Once they’re all mixed up nicely, take the first tile and place it right next to the volcano tile. Easy peasy.
Now it’s time to lay out the rest of the track. Take the remaining tiles and arrange them in a straight line, connecting each one to the next. By the end, you’ll have a nice, long track with 12 hexes in total. Make sure you place all the tiles with the terrain side facing up. We want to see what we’re working with!
Now, let’s pick our players. Each person gets to choose a color and grab two dinos in that color. Exciting, right? Once you’ve got your dinos, it’s time to place them on the track. Put one dino on the first tile, right next to the volcano. Then, place your other dino on the second tile. And just like that, we’re ready to start our adventure!
Okay, here’s what we do to get started. We shuffle all the cards – the special ones and the movement ones – together in one big deck. Then, I deal 5 cards to each player to make their starting hand. The rest of the cards go in a deck right beside the race track, ready for action.
Now, it’s time for the finishing touches. We grab prize counters – one for each dino in the race – and make a stack. Any leftover prize counters go back in the box, without peeking. We also set aside the event die, egg counters, and the lava drops. We’ll need those later on!
Now, who gets to go first? The player who can remember seeing a movie with dinosaurs most recently gets the honor. They also get to take the dinosaur egg, a lovely reward.
Game Play
Let the race begin! The first player starts things off, and then we keep going clockwise. Each player takes their turn, following these three phases:
- Draw new cards
- Play cards and switch them around
- Roll the event die
1. Draw Cards
When I’m playing the game, I get to draw cards based on how many dinos I still have on the track. If both my dinos are still in the race, I draw two cards. If one of them finishes the race, I draw one card.
I can have as many cards as I want in my hand. When there are no more cards left in the deck, I shuffle the discarded ones to create a new deck.
2. Play and Swap Cards
Once I’ve drawn my cards, I can play as many as I want. Each card has a different action, so I can move my dinos multiple times, play tricks on my opponents, or even do both!
There are two types of cards: movement cards and special cards.
Moving your dinosaurs:
Hey there! Let’s talk about how we can get your dinosaurs moving in this exciting game. The first thing we need to do is use our movement cards. These cards are what will help us get our dinosaurs up and running!
Now, to use these movement cards, we need to take a look at the terrain tiles on the track in front of our dinosaurs. Each of these tiles represents a different type of terrain, like grasslands, forests, or swamps. Fun, right?
Okay, let’s say the next tile in front of my dino is a grassland. To move my dinosaur forward one tile, I need to play a movement card that matches that grassland terrain. Makes sense so far?
So, the key to getting our dinosaurs moving is to always play a movement card that matches the terrain tile in front of our dino. This way, we can move forward and explore different parts of the track.
Alright, now that we have the basics down, let’s get those dinosaurs moving and start our adventure!

Some movement cards have all four types of terrain on them. These cards are like wildcards. They allow your dino to move to the next tile, no matter what type it is.
If you don’t have the right card, you can still move your dino forward by discarding three cards of the same type. It’s like using a wildcard.
Special cards: You can use special cards to play tricks on your opponents, but only if their dino is on the same tile as yours! There are three different special cards, each with a different effect.
Push Back

Hey there! I’ve got a cool move for you – it’s called the Shove. When you use this move, you get to push your opponent’s dino back one tile. How cool is that? But there’s a catch. If the dino you push ends up on a lava tile or an active volcano tile, you don’t get to move it. Instead, the owner of the dino takes a lava drop and has to get rid of a random card from their hand. Talk about a double-edged sword, huh? So make sure you choose your moves wisely!
The Egg Toss

If you have the egg, give it to your opponent. If you don’t have the egg, knock down your opponent’s dino. Lay their dino figure on its side. To stand up again, they have to discard any two cards from their hand on their next turn.
Steal a card
Swap cards: During your turn, you can choose to swap cards and try to get better ones. Discard two cards from your hand and draw a new one from the deck. You can do this multiple times before, after, or in between playing cards.
Place all the cards you play or discard in a pile next to the deck.
3. Roll the Event Die
So, when I don’t want to play or swap any more cards, I roll the event die. And here’s the twist – the result applies to everyone, not just me! The roll can give me different outcomes:
Terrain: The die has four sides that show different terrain types. For each dino I have on that terrain type, I get to draw a card from the deck. It’s a nice reward!
Note: But there’s a catch – I can’t play or swap these cards anymore. The phase for that is over.
Two cards: This one’s a treat! I get to draw two cards, even if I only have one dino on the track. Talk about a lucky break!
The volcano erupts: Uh-oh, trouble’s brewing! When I roll this, the volcano erupts and lava starts flowing. It’s bad news for my dinos! The eruption creates a lava river that fills up the race track. Here’s what to expect:

- When I have the egg, I have to throw away all my cards and get one lava drop. Then, I can give the egg to someone else.
- If this is the first time we rolled this event, I flip the volcano tile so it shows “active.” If the volcano is already active, I flip the terrain tile that’s closest to the volcano and doesn’t have lava yet. This shows its “lava” side. If there are dinosaurs on the flipped tile, I move them to the next tile. I also have to get rid of a card from my hand (I’ll choose randomly) and take one lava drop for each dinosaur moved.
The Race to the End
When you move a dinosaur onto the last tile on the track, it’s safe. Take the dinosaur off the track. Look at all the prize counters that are still in play (don’t show them to the others) and choose one without showing it. This will be your prize for finishing the race. Put the rest of the prizes face down in a stack.
Note: You can look at the prizes you won at any time, but keep them a secret from the other players until the race is over!
If you finish the race with both dinosaurs, you have to get rid of all the cards in your hand. From now on, only roll the event dice when it’s your turn. Any effects only apply to the players still in the race.
If you’re the owner of the egg and your second dino finishes the race, your egg is safe too! Not only do you get a prize for your dino, but you also get an egg counter chosen at random, which gives you points.
The game ends as soon as the egg is safe. Any dino still on the race track doesn’t get a prize.
To calculate your score, add up the value of the prize counters for the dinos that finished the race, and add the points from the egg counter if you brought the egg to safety.
You lose one point for each time your dino touched the lava during the race. If you have two prize counters of the same color (red or green), you get a bonus of 3 points.
The player with the highest score is the winner of the game.
In case of a tie, the player who brought the egg to safety is declared the winner.
Variations
Survive!
This version is perfect for younger players. You don’t need to worry about the prize counters, egg counter, or lava drops. The goal is to be the first player to safely bring both dinosaurs to their destination.
Double Match
For a game with less luck involved, try playing two rounds and adding up the scores from each player. The winner is the player with the highest total score after both races.
Team Play
If you want a more collaborative experience, play in teams. Each team works together to bring their dinosaurs to safety. The team with the best overall performance wins the game.
