Colt Express Game Rules
Howdy partner! You ready to dive into the wild world of Colt Express? Well, saddle up because I’m about to lay down the law and give you the lowdown on how to play this rootin’ tootin’ game.
Alright, let’s talk about the basics. Colt Express is a game that’s all about being a bandit in the Wild West. The goal is simple – be the richest cowboy in town by robbing a train. But watch out, ’cause the other bandits are after the same loot as you.
Now, let me break it down for you. Each player takes on the role of a bandit, and the game is played in rounds. During each round, you’ll be playing action cards to move around the train, collect loot, and maybe even shoot some bullets at your rivals. It’s like a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
But be careful, partner. Your actions are all done blind, meaning you won’t know what the other players are up to until it’s too late. It’s all about deduction and trying to predict what your opponents will do. It’s like trying to outsmart a rattlesnake.
When it comes to movement, you’ll be playing cards that have arrows on ’em. These arrows determine which direction you’ll be movin’ in. You’ll also have cards that let you climb ladders, punch other players, and even rob the passengers on the train.
Now, I know what you’re thinkin’. What’s a train without a good ol’ shootout? Well, partner, Colt Express has got that covered too. If you find yourself on the same spot as another bandit, you can shoot at ’em. But watch out, ’cause they might shoot back.
At the end of each round, the train moves forward, and new cards are added to the game. This keeps things fresh and adds a bit of strategy to the mix. You gotta stay on your toes, ’cause things can change quick as a jackrabbit.
The game goes on for a few more rounds, and then it’s time to count up the loot. The bandit with the most cash is declared the winner. It’s like bein’ the king of the Wild West.
So there you have it, partner. That’s the rules of Colt Express. It’s a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumpin’ game that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. So round up your gang and see who’s got what it takes to be the baddest bandit in town. Happy trails!

- You will find the following in the box:
- 6 Train Cars
- 1 Locomotive
- 10 Terrain elements
- 17 Round Cards
- 1 Marshal pawn
- 13 Neutral Bullet cards
- 6 Character cards
- 60 Action cards
- 36 Bullet cards
- 6 Bandit pawns
Getting Ready
- First, choose a Character card and place it in front of you. Then, arrange your 6 Bullet cards in ascending order to the left of your Character card. Take your 10 Action cards and give them a good shuffle. Place them face-down to your right—they make up your personal deck. Lastly, grab a $250 Purse from the stock and keep it hidden, face-down on your Character card.
In the middle of the table, put the Locomotive and as many Cars as there are players in a line. Choose your Cars and arrange them however you like. Attach the Locomotive to the front of the Train.
Put the specified number and type of Loot tokens on the floor of each Car. Mix up the Purses and place them face-down so their value is hidden.
Put the Marshal pawn and a Strongbox inside the Locomotive. Put the rest of the Loot tokens back in the box, except for the second Strongbox, which goes near the Locomotive and might be used later.
To start the game, I’ll randomly choose four Round cards that correspond to the number of players. These cards will determine the duration of the game. I’ll shuffle them up and select one of the three Train Station cards as well. I’ll create a face-down deck using these five cards, ensuring that the Train Station card is at the bottom. The remaining Round cards can go back in the box for now.
Next, I’ll place the 13 Neutral Bullet cards next to the Locomotive. These cards will come into play during the game.
Now, let’s talk about the First Player.

So here’s what happens: I take the Bandit pawns that match the Characters we’ve chosen and pick one randomly. Whoever’s Character gets matched is the First Player for the First Round.
That player gets the deck of the 5 Round cards and puts it right in front of them.
Putting the Bandits in Place
The First Player is Player 1, and the person to their left is Player 2, and so on.
The players with an odd number put their Bandit in the Caboose.
The players with an even number put their Bandit in the Car next to the Caboose.

Object of the game
Hey there, partner! The name of the game is to become the richest Bandit in the Old West. How do you do that? Well, you’ve gotta try and grab more Loot than your opponents while dodging bullets like a true gunslinger!
Here’s the deal, the best shooter at the end of the game will earn the prestigious title of Gunslinger and a cool $1000 reward.
Game Play
We’ve got ourselves five Rounds in this game. Each Round has two parts:
- Part 1: Schemin’! This is where the players play their Action cards into a common deck placed right in the middle of the table.
- Part 2: Stealin’! It’s time to unleash those Action cards you played during Part 1 and see what happens.
Alright, let’s get started. At the beginning of each Round, every player shuffles their own deck and draws six cards. These cards make up your Hand for that Round.
Then, the First Player picks up the top card from the Round deck and places it face-up on the table for everyone to see.
So, here’s the deal. This Round card is pretty nifty because it tells us how many turns we’ll have and how those turns will go. See, the number of Card icons on the card tells us the number of turns. And the little arrows show us the direction those turns will take.
Phase 1: Let’s Start Planning
We begin with the First Player, and each player takes their turn, going clockwise.
On your turn, you have two choices:
- You can play an Action card face-up from your Hand to the common deck.
- You can draw 3 extra cards from your deck and add them to your Hand.
The Schemin’! phase comes to an end once the specified number of turns on the Round card have been completed. If you haven’t played all your cards, they go back on top of your deck.
Hey there! I’m here to walk you through the exciting world of board games, and today we’re going to dive into the next phase of a cool game called “Outlaws.” So let’s get started!
Phase 2: Stealin’
Now it’s time for the First Player to make their move. In this round, our First Player is a bandit named Doc. Remember, each round has a First Player, and this time it’s Doc’s turn.
Here’s what happens next: Doc takes a card from his Hand and plays it. Let’s say he plays a Move card. Great move, Doc! Now, the player on Doc’s left, Belle, takes her turn. Belle decides to play a Fire card on top of Doc’s Move card. Things are heating up!
Next in line is Tuco, seated on Belle’s left. Instead of playing a card, Tuco chooses to draw cards from his deck. Smart move, Tuco! He adds three shiny new cards to his Hand.
And finally, it’s Cheyenne’s turn. Cheyenne plays a Punch card on top of Belle’s Fire card. Looks like the Bandits are bringing out all their tricks to outsmart each other!
That wraps up the first turn. Now, let’s move on to the second turn and see what happens next.
Ending the Round
Before we move on, we need to wrap up this round. In the Stealin’ phase, the First Player takes the deck of Action cards that were created during the previous Schemin’! phase. They turn the deck over but keep the same order of cards. So, no funny business here!
Now, it’s time for the Bandits’ Actions. Each player takes turns performing their action, starting with the top card from the deck. Remember, the order in which the cards were played matters!
Once an Action card is performed, it goes back to the player who played it. That player puts it back in their personal deck, ready for future rounds of mischief.
And there you have it! Now you know how Phase 2 of the “Outlaws” game works. Stay tuned for more excitement as we delve into the next phase. Until then, happy gaming!
So, here’s what we need to do: first, we both shuffle our cards. I’ve got 10 Action cards and any Bullet cards that have been used on me in previous Rounds. Once that’s done, we place our decks to the right of our Character cards.
Now, pay attention to this part – the player on the left of the First Player is going to become the new First Player. They’ll be the one in charge. And to mark the start of a new Round, they will put the remaining Round cards in front of them. And just like that, we’re ready to start a fresh new Round!

End of the game
Alright, it’s time to wrap things up. After five Rounds, the game comes to a close.
Now it’s time to count up all the Loot tokens you managed to snatch. Add up their values from your Character card.
Here’s an exciting part – the Gunslinger prize! It goes to the player who showed the most accuracy, the one with the fewest Bullet cards left. The lucky winner flips over their Character card to claim the prize. And guess what? It’s worth a cool $1000.
If there happens to be more than one player with the best aim, don’t worry. Each tied player gets $1000.
Now, let’s find out who’s the richest player overall. The one with the most cash takes home the victory. But hold on! In the event of a tie, we’ll have to dig deeper. The winning player is the one who received the fewest Bullet cards from other players and Events throughout the game.
