Colossal Arena Game Rules

Welcome to the world of Colossal Arena, a thrilling game that tests your strategic skills and luck! In this game, you and your friends will take on the roles of mighty creatures battling for dominance in the arena. The rules of the game may seem complex at first, but fear not! I am here to guide you through the process, step by step, so you can become a master of the arena.

Before we jump into the details of how to play, let’s take a moment to appreciate the importance of strategy in Colossal Arena. This game is all about making the right decisions at the right time. Every move you make can have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. So, keep your wits about you and be ready to adapt your tactics as the situation evolves.

Now, let’s go over the basic gameplay mechanics. Colossal Arena is played over several rounds, with each round consisting of five phases. In the first phase, every player will draw cards from the deck, adding exciting new creatures to their lineup. The second phase is all about placing bets on which creatures you think will survive the upcoming round. This is where your strategic thinking comes into play. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each creature, and make your bets wisely.

After the betting phase comes the exhibition phase. Here, the creatures will showcase their powers and abilities, engaging in thrilling battles. This is where luck can play a role, as the outcome of the battles is determined by a combination of factors, including the creatures’ abilities and some luck of the draw.

The fourth phase is the resolution phase. This is when the battles are resolved, and creatures that have been defeated are removed from the game. Finally, in the fifth and final phase, players will collect tokens based on the success of their bets. The player with the most tokens at the end of the game is the ultimate champion of the arena!

As you can see, there is a lot to consider when playing Colossal Arena. You need to carefully analyze the creatures, make strategic bets, and adapt your tactics as the game progresses. But fear not, my friend! With a bit of practice and a dash of luck, you’ll soon become a master of the arena.

So, what are you waiting for? Gather your friends, roll up your sleeves, and let the battles begin! May the best creature win!

Welcome to the Colossal Arena! Today, I invite you to witness an epic showdown between eight fierce creatures in a thrilling five-round tournament. As you step into the arena, you’ll have the opportunity to bet your hard-earned gold on these magnificent gladiators, hoping to strike it rich.

Be sure to place your bets early and frequently, as the value of wagers diminishes with each elimination. In the end, only three creatures will emerge victorious. Will they be the ones you’ve chosen to support?

In the game of Colossal Arena, 2-5 players assume the role of enthusiastic fans at this grand spectacle, making wagers on monstrous gladiators. The fan who accumulates the most gold by the end of the tournament will be crowned the ultimate winner!

Now, let’s talk about the components that make this game so exciting. You’ll have access to an impressive array of:

– 132 Combat Cards

– 11 Spectator Cards

– 12 Creature Cards

Get ready for an exhilarating experience in the Colossal Arena, where fortunes are won and legends are made. May luck be on your side as you witness the clash of these titans!

I’m perplexed. I’ve seen some HTML code and I’m a bit confused. But hang on, let me try to make sense of it. I believe it’s describing some items you might get in a package. From what I gather, you’ll receive three Referee Cards, twenty-five Bet tokens, and one rule book. That sounds pretty cool, right? It’s like a little kit to get you started. So, if you’re interested in this kind of stuff, you’ll probably enjoy what’s inside. Let’s dive in and have some fun!

Let’s Play!

My goal in this game is to win the most gold by betting on creatures that make it through the tournament. The earlier I place a bet, the more valuable it is.

But I have to be careful because if I bet heavily on a creature early in the tournament, it’s more likely that my opponents will eliminate it. The player whose bets are worth the most gold at the end of the game wins!

Getting Ready

  1. Hey there! So, first things first – we need to get started. Each of us gets a specific color: red, green, blue, yellow, or white. And we’re gonna keep it simple – you take the five tokens of your chosen color.
  2. Alright, now it’s time to set up the game. Out of these twelve creature cards, we need to pick eight for this game. You can either decide together or do it randomly. Don’t worry, we won’t be using the other four creature cards and their combat cards this time.
  3. Now that we’ve got our creatures, let’s lay them out in a row. The order doesn’t really matter, so don’t stress about that.
  4. We need a draw deck for the game. To make it, let’s shuffle the remaining blue-backed combat, spectator, and referee cards together. Once they’re nice and mixed up, deal eight of them face down to each player. Feel free to take a peek at your hand, by the way. The rest of the deck goes off to the side, face down.
  5. Finally, we need to decide who goes first. Let’s make it random, just to keep things fair. Once we’ve got our starting player, we’re ready to rock!

Hey there! Let me show you what the play area looks like when the game begins.

The Game in a Nutshell

We play the game in five rounds, and everyone takes turns. Round one starts with the first player and then goes clockwise. At the end of each round, we eliminate one creature from the tournament.

Playing with Cards

Each player plays combat cards below their creature cards during their turn. These cards make up the combat row.

As the game progresses, new cards replace the old ones in the combat row for each creature. The top card decides how strong the creature is in combat.

Keeping an Eye on Elimination

If, at the end of my turn, all the creatures remaining in the current combat row have either a combat or spectator card played on them and there’s a creature with the lowest combat value, that creature gets eliminated from the tournament.

When a creature gets eliminated, I need to turn its card face down. Then, I start a new combat row below the previous one and begin a new round.

By the end of the game, I usually have a total of 6 rows of cards – one row for creature cards and one row of combat cards for each of the 5 rounds of play. You can see an example of what the playing area might look like at the end of a game at the end of these rules.

Bet Values

Hey there! Let’s talk about the bets in this game. As a player, you have 5 bet tokens that you can use during the game. These tokens represent the bets you can make on creatures that survive all 5 rounds of combat.

Now, each bet has a specific value that you’ll receive at the end of the game, depending on when you placed it. Take a look at the table below:

Round Placed
Bet Value
1 (8 Monsters Left) 4 Gold
2 (7 Monsters Left) 3 Gold
3 (6 Monsters Left) 2 Gold
4 (5 Monsters Left) 1 Gold
5 (4 Monsters Left) 0 Gold

In the first round, you also have the option to make a secret bet. If this bet pays out, it’s worth 5 gold. I’ll explain secret bets in more detail later.

Now, let’s talk about The Backer.

When it comes to betting on creatures, the important thing to remember is that the creature’s backer is the player who has placed the most valuable bets on that creature. So if you’ve placed a bet on the Wyrm in both round 1 and round 2, the total value of your bets would be 7 gold.

Now, if no other player has a total bet value of 7 gold or more on the Wyrm, then you become the Wyrm’s backer. This means you can use the Wyrm’s special power whenever you play a combat card on it, which I’ll explain later.

However, if there are two or more players tied for the highest bet value on a creature, then neither of them becomes the creature’s backer. It’s a bit of a tricky situation!

It’s worth noting that secret bets don’t count towards a player’s total bet value on a creature unless they’ve been revealed. I’ll explain how to place and reveal secret bets in a bit.

Now, let’s talk about game play.

Each player’s turn is made up of four phases:

In the game, there are four phases that I’ll explain to you. They are:

  1. Phase 1: Place a Bet
  2. Phase 2: Play a Card
  3. Phase 3: Discard and Draw Cards
  4. Phase 4: Check for Creature Elimination

Remember, if you decide to make a secret bet, you won’t be able to play a card in that turn.

Now, let’s start with Phase 1: Place a Bet. Here’s what you can do:

  • Place a Normal Bet: Choose a creature in the combat row and put one of your bet tokens on it, if there isn’t already a bet on that creature.

Here are three actions you can take during the game:

1. Place a Secret Bet: Take one of your bet tokens and put it on a face-down combat card from your hand. This secret bet is for the creature that card represents. You can only do this in the first round of the game. Once a creature is eliminated, no more secret bets can be made.

2. Reveal a Secret Bet: Show everyone which creature you bet on with your secret bet. This might allow you to become the backer of that creature.

3. Pass: If you don’t want to do anything during this phase, you can simply pass and do nothing.

Now let’s talk about how to place a normal bet. Take one of your five bet tokens and put it in the column of the creature you want to bet on. Make sure to place it just above the combat row for the current round. Remember that you can’t place a bet on a creature that has already been eliminated.

Hey there! I want to remind you that the value of your bets relies on the round when you place them. And keep in mind, only one player can bet on each creature in each round. So, if someone already placed a bet on the Cyclops for this round, you won’t be able to bet on it as well. Got it? Good!

When playing this game, it’s crucial to know where to place your bet token. You want to make sure you’re putting it in the column of the creature you’ve chosen, right above the current combat row.

Super important: You can only make 5 bets per game. Once you place a bet token, you can’t take it back unless you use the special power of the Colossus!

B. Making a Sneaky Bet

If you want to place a sneaky bet, pick a combat card from your hand that matches the creature you want to bet on. Put it facedown in front of you, then place one of your bet tokens on top of it.

For example, if you have the Magus’s combat card with a power of 3 in your hand, you can put it facedown in front of you and cover it with one of your bet tokens to make a sneaky bet on the Magus. The combat card is only used to show which creature you’re secretly betting on. If you reveal your sneaky bet later, you have to discard the combat card. If your sneaky bet pays off at the end of the game, you get 5 gold.

Keep in mind these rules when making sneaky bets:

How to play Colossal Arena Official Rules UltraFoodMess

  • During each game, you can only make one secret bet.
  • Secret bets are only allowed during the first round of the game. Once a creature has been eliminated, you can no longer make secret bets.
  • When you make a secret bet, you don’t play a card on that turn. You skip phase 2 of your turn.

Revealing a Secret Bet

If you decide to reveal your secret bet instead of placing a bet during your turn, here’s what you do: flip over the combat card underneath your bet token and show it to the other players. Then, place the bet token above the corresponding creature card (not above the current combat row) and discard the combat card.

So, you want to show your hand and place a bet on a creature, huh? Well, if you reveal your secret bet, it’s worth a solid 5 points. Keep in mind, though, that sometimes you’ll be forced to show your hand when the sneaky Magister card is played. It’s not the same as placing a secret bet, mind you – revealing it won’t make you skip phase 2 of your turn. But sometimes, you gotta lay it all on the table, am I right?

When it’s time to play a card during Phase 2, you have a few options to choose from:

1. Playing a combat card: When you play a combat card, you place it in the current combat row, in the same column as the creature it corresponds to. But keep in mind, you can’t play combat cards that depict creatures that have already been eliminated.

2. Playing a spectator card: If you want to play a spectator card, you can place it in the current combat row on a creature of your choice. Just make sure not to play it in the same column as an eliminated creature.

3. Playing a referee card: If you decide to play a referee card, be ready to follow the instructions on the card. Referee cards can have various effects, so choose wisely.

4. Pass: If you don’t have any playable cards and you want to pass, you need to show your hand to the other players as proof. This way, they will know that you can’t make a move.

Remember, you can’t play a card in the same turn that you make your secret bet. So be strategic in your card-playing decisions.

Hey there! Let me explain how combat cards work in a fun and simple way. When you play a combat card, you’ll need to place it in the current combat row, right below the creature shown on the card. But hold on! You can’t play cards with creatures that have already been eliminated. So make sure to choose wisely!

Remember: You can only play combat and spectator cards on creatures that are still in the game. So keep an eye on those eliminations!

How to play Colossal Arena Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Additionally, when you play a combat card on a creature, if you’re the creature’s backer, you can immediately use the creature’s special power. The creature powers are explained later on, but there are a few rules that apply to all of them:

– The creatures’ special powers override the rules. Whenever a special power contradicts a rule, the special power takes precedence.

– Only the backer of a creature can use its special power. No other player has access to it.

– The backer of a creature can only activate its special power by playing a combat card from their hand. Spectator cards and combat cards manipulated by other special powers don’t activate a creature’s special power.

Now let’s talk about playing a spectator card.

So, here’s the deal: when you play a spectator card, you gotta place it in the current combat row, right? And here’s the kicker: it goes in the same column as any creature that’s still kickin’. It’s like that spectator card becomes a combat card representing that creature. But hold up, there’s a catch – you can’t use a spectator card to activate a creature’s special power. And get this – if you play a combat card on a spectator card, that still won’t activate a creature’s special power!

Check this out: Say my buddy Scott plays a spectator card on the Magus, covering up the card that was already there. So, next turn, Will, who’s got the Magus’s back, plays a Magus combat card on it, covering up the spectator card. Now, here’s the bummer: since the Magus combat card was used to cover a spectator, Will can’t use the Magus’s special power!

C. Playing A Referee Card

When I play a referee card, I follow the instructions on the card and then place it in the discard pile. There are two different kinds of referee cards: the two Prefects and the Magister.

When I play the Magister card, I get to choose one living creature. If any players have made secret bets on that creature, they have to immediately reveal their secret bets. This might cause the creature’s supporter to change unexpectedly. (Remember, revealed secret bets are worth 5 gold!)

When I play a Prefect card, I have the option to pick up any visible combat card and add it to my hand. This includes combat cards that are on top of any pile in the current combat row or any combat row from a previous round.

Passing

Sometimes, all the cards in my hand are combat cards for creatures that have already been taken out. If that happens, I can’t play any of them.

If that’s the case, I have to show my hand to the other players and prove that I don’t have any valid cards to play. This means I have to skip playing a card this turn. But I can’t skip if I still have playable cards.

Third Step: Get Rid of Old Cards and Get New Ones

During this step, I can choose to discard up to 3 combat cards that have pictures of creatures that have been defeated. I can discard them in any order.

When I discard a card, I have to show it to the other players so they know it belonged to a creature that isn’t around anymore.

After I discard, I can draw new cards from the draw deck. I can only draw one card at a time until I have a total of 8 cards in my hand again.

If you pull the last card from the draw deck, the game is over. You don’t need to check if a creature is eliminated in this turn. This is the only way the game can end with more than three creatures left.

Phase 4: Checking for Creature Elimination

As the final thing you do in your turn, check if a creature is eliminated. A creature is eliminated if it has the lowest combat value in the combat row and all the remaining creatures have a combat or spectator card played on them in the current combat row. If a creature is eliminated, this ends the current round.

End of the Game

The game ends either at the end of the 5th round or when the last card is drawn from the draw deck.

When the game reaches its end, all of us players need to reveal our secret bets and calculate how much gold we placed on any creatures that managed to stay in the game. The person with the highest-valued bets wins the entire thing!

Now, if there happens to be a tie for the highest value, then the winner is the player who took their turn most recently. It’s all about timing!

Striking Deals

During the course of the game, we’re free to make deals with each other. However, let’s keep in mind that these agreements aren’t set in stone. It’s okay to change our minds!

Oh, and just a reminder: we can’t show our cards to each other unless the rules explicitly allow it. Like in phase 3 when we discard, or if a creature has a special power that forces us to reveal our cards.

How to play Colossal Arena Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Here’s a neat example of what the play area might look like once the game is finished.

In this example, the Amazon, the Troll, and the Wyrm are the only surviving monsters, so only bets placed on these three monsters will pay off.

So, what does this mean in terms of scores? Well, the white player has earned 2 gold, the red player has earned 6 gold, the yellow player has earned 7 gold, the blue player has earned an impressive 12 gold, and the green player has earned a whopping 15 gold! (His secret bet on the Troll really paid off, but the key was keeping two of his 4 gold bets alive). And that’s how the green player wins the game!
