Objective:

Getting Started:

Getting started is easy! First, we set up the game board. Each player chooses a character and places their pawn on the matching color space. Then, we shuffle the deck of cards and deal them out to each player. The remaining cards are placed face down on the board.

Gameplay:

On your turn, roll the dice and move your pawn that many spaces on the board. When you land on a space, you can make an investigation. You may ask any player if they have a particular card that matches the space you landed on.

If the player has one or more of the cards you asked for, they must show them to you in secret. If they don’t have any of the cards, play continues to the next player. Keep track of the information you learn and use it to eliminate suspects, times, and drinks from your list.

The game continues with each player taking turns moving and making investigations. As you gather more clues, you’ll be able to make educated guesses about who, when, and what. When you think you’ve solved the mystery, make an accusation!

Making an Accusation:

When you’re ready to make an accusation, announce your guess to all the players. Secretly look at the cards in the case file envelope to see if you’re correct. If you are, you win the game! If you’re wrong, you’re out of the game but can still help others by showing them your cards when they ask.

The Goal of the Game

I’ve got some bad news: someone devoured the last slice of cake!

So, here’s the deal: the first person to solve the mystery of who ate it, when it happened, and what they washed it down with wins the game!

Getting Started

1. Place the gameboard in the middle where everyone can reach it.
2. Keep the white base without a label and the one with the crumbs separate.
3. Flip the remaining five white time bases over, choose one without peeking, and position it in the center of the gameboard. That’s the time the cake was eaten!

I’m going to give you some instructions on how to set up and play a game called “Who Ate The Cake?” Here’s what you need to do:

1. Take the six white bases and mix them up. Then, put a character pawn on each base. One of the character pawns has crumbs on its base because it ate the cake!

2. Place the character pawns on the gameboard, on their matching start spaces.

3. Keep aside the two yellow bases that have no label.

4. Turn the five yellow drink bases face-down. Without looking, take one of the drink bases and place it in the center of the gameboard. That drink base represents what the person who ate the cake had to drink!

5. Mix the remaining six yellow bases. Randomly put a furniture token into each base.

6. Place the furniture tokens on the gameboard, on their matching pictures.

7. Each player should take a detective sheet from the pad and a pencil.

Now, you’re ready to play! You can fold your detective sheet so that no one can see it as you find clues and mark it up. Have fun and try to figure out who ate the cake!

Here’s how it works: you’ll need a die to play. Roll the die, and depending on the number you get, you’ll be able to do different things. You might move characters around, or you could look under them or under some furniture to find clues.

As you find clues, you’ll start eliminating choices and getting closer to solving the mystery. The more clues you find, the closer you’ll get to discovering exactly what happened!

Now, before we start, let’s determine who goes first. The player who had the last piece of cake gets to start. After that, the game moves to the left. It’s going to be a game full of surprises and twists!

Step 1: Roll the Die

• Yellow: Sneak a peek under a furniture token without anyone noticing.

White: Sneak a peek under any character pawn without anyone noticing.

Here’s how numbers work: I can move any character pawn up to that many spaces along the connecting footprints.

• If I end up on a yellow footprint , I secretly look under the furniture token in that room.
• If I end up on a white footprint , I secretly look under the character pawn I moved.
• If I end up on a black footprint , I’m sorry, but I don’t get to look at anything! My turn ends.

I need to remember that I can’t pass or land on other character pawns. I can’t end my move on the same space where I started.

2. Time to mark my Sheet

Alright, listen up! Here’s what you gotta do to solve the puzzle in the gameboard’s center. Pay close attention because the ones you see can’t be part of the solution, got it?

• If you peek under a yellow or white base, mark off the time or drink you spot, only if there’s one there.
• Mark off each furniture token you uncover.
• Mark off each character pawn you find, UNLESS you come across the crumbs! If you find the crumbs, then you know who ate the cake!

That’s it for your turn! Now, it’s your left side neighbor’s time to roll the die.
