Overview

Welcome to the exciting world of Clank! Sunken Treasures! In this game, you and your fellow players become adventurous treasure hunters diving deep into the ocean depths in search of valuable artifacts. But, while great rewards await, danger lurks in the form of the fearsome Dragon! Your mission is to gather as much treasure as you can before the Dragon awakens.

Setting up the Game

To get started, follow these simple setup steps:

Place the game board in the middle of the play area.
Shuffle the Dungeon Deck and place it face-down on the designated space on the game board. Then, draw six cards and place them face-up in a line next to the deck.
Separate the Gold, Artifact, Secret Tome, and Mastery Token cards into their own stacks and place them within easy reach of all players.
Shuffle the Dungeon Deck and place it face-down on the designated space on the game board. Then, draw six cards and place them face-up in a line next to the deck.
Each player chooses a unique color and takes their corresponding player board, meeple, and 4 skill cubes of that color. Place your meeple on the start space of the mastery track on your player board.
Give each player 30 clank cubes of the matching color.
Place the Dragon marker on the “apex” space of the Rage Track on the game board.
Distribute 9 cards to each player from the Starter Deck. Each player should shuffle their cards and draw a starting hand of 5 cards.
The youngest player goes first!

Playing the Game

Throughout the game, you will be exploring the dungeon, gathering treasures, and trying to avoid the awakened Dragon. Each turn, you will follow these steps:

Play cards from your hand to move around the dungeon, collect resources, or fight monsters.
Resolve all card effects and gain Clank!
Draw new cards, up to your hand limit.
Check for any Clank! damage and resolve it accordingly.

Continue taking turns until one player escapes the dungeon with an Artifact, or the Dragon completely awakens and attacks. At that point, players calculate their final scores.

Scoring

Your final score in Clank! Sunken Treasures is based on the points you have gathered throughout the game. Points are awarded for:

Gold: Each Gold you have collected is worth one point.
Artifact: Each Artifact you have collected is worth the number of points indicated on the card.
Secret Tome: Each Secret Tome you have collected gives you two points at the end of the game.
Mastery Tokens: Each Mastery Token you have earned is worth a bonus of 2 or 4 points, depending on the requirements.
Dragon Attacks: If you were in the dungeon when the Dragon attacked, you will lose points based on the number of Clank! cubes you have in the Dragon Bag.

Add up all your points to determine the winner! The player with the most points is the ultimate treasure hunter!

Setting Up

In the Clank! Sunken Treasures game, you have the option to replace the original Clank! game board with a brand new board.

If you decide to use the Sunken Treasures board:

First, I’ll put the two SCUBA tokens along with the other Market Items in the Market area.
Next, I’ll take the new Goldfish monster card and put it in Reserve, right next to the Goblin. The Goldfish card isn’t discarded when you defeat it, so you can fight it and the Goblin multiple times in one turn and earn their rewards each time.

If you’re using a new board or one of the original boards, here’s what you need to do:

When you shuffle and place the Secrets on the board, make sure to mix in the new Major Secret (Potion of Heroism) and Minor Secrets (Potion of Strength, Treasure) with the original Secrets. If you’re using the Sunken Treasures board, there are extra spaces specially designed for these secrets. If you’re using the original board, just put any extra secrets back in the box without looking at them.
Finally, I’ll place the Market Board next to the board. This area will be your Market, where you can find all the Market items.

Shuffle the 35 new Sunken Treasures cards into the Dungeon Deck.

Setting up the game is pretty much the same as before. Nothing new to worry about there.

In some of the new rooms, water has flooded in, creating a challenging situation. When your turn starts in one of these flooded rooms, you have to find a way to come up for air! It’s important to remember that at some point during your turn, you must enter a room that is not flooded. If you fail to do so and end your turn without finding dry ground, you will suffer one point of damage. However, there is a way to avoid this damage if you happen to possess SCUBA. Don’t worry, though, if you run out of Clank! cubes and still have to take damage, you’ll be knocked out of the game.

Huh, check out this neat update! They’ve added a cool new icon to mark tunnels between flooded rooms. So now, to get through one of these tunnels, you have two options. You can either use up two Boots or, if you’ve got the SCUBA gear, you can get through with just one Boot. Pretty slick, huh?

Clank! Tunnels

Hey there! Let’s talk about some tunnels in the new board. You might notice that some of these tunnels have Clank! icons on them. If you happen to move through one of these tunnels, you’re going to have to add Clank! to your Clank! Area. The number of icons on the tunnel will determine how much Clank! you add. Just keep in mind that if you teleport along these tunnels, you don’t have to add any Clank! cubes, so it’s a bit of a shortcut!

Now, here’s a cool thing – if you don’t have any cubes left in your personal stash, you can move through the tunnel without any penalty. How convenient is that?

Treasure Rooms

Hey there! Guess what? I have some awesome news for you about the new board! It turns out that there are some rooms with a special gold icon. And you know what that means? When you go into one of those rooms, you get some gold! How cool is that?

All About the Potion of Heroism

Hey there! I’ve got an exciting secret to share with you. It’s a new major secret that you can use during your turn to get 1 Boot and 1 Sword, plus it can heal 1 damage. Pretty awesome, right? Just remember to return it to the box after you use it.

Time to Discard

There are many cool new cards that have a special effect “when you discard this”. To activate these effects, all you have to do is discard the card during your turn. Just a heads up, you won’t trigger these effects if you place the card in your discard pile at the end of your turn or when you first get the card.

For example: Picture this – you play Sleight of Hand (“Discard a card to draw two cards”) and you decide to discard a Coin Purse (“When you discard this, 5 “). Here’s what happens: you draw the two cards from Sleight of Hand, and you gain from Coin Purse. Cool, right?

Now, you might be wondering if discarding is optional. Well, it’s not usually. However, if you want to avoid discarding, you can play a discarding card after you’ve played other cards. The only catch is that you won’t get the benefits of discarding. So choose wisely!
