Get Ready for Chomp! Learn the Game Rules
Hey, are you ready to have some fun? Well, then you’ve come to the right place! Today, I’m going to teach you all about the exciting game of Chomp! So, let’s dive right in and get started!
First things first, let me explain how the game is played. Chomp! is a game that involves a grid of chocolate bars. Yes, chocolate bars! I know, it sounds delicious, doesn’t it? But don’t get too excited just yet, because these chocolate bars are special.
Here’s how it works. The game starts with a rectangular grid made up of chocolate bars. One person, let’s call them Player One, gets to take the first bite. They can choose any chocolate bar from the grid, but there’s a catch. When Player One takes a bite out of a chocolate bar, they also have to eat all of the chocolate squares to the right and below it. Yum!
After Player One takes their bite, it’s the other player’s turn. Let’s call them Player Two. Player Two gets to eat any remaining chocolate bar they want, but they also have to eat all of the chocolate squares to the right and below it. The game continues like this, with players taking turns and chomping away at the chocolate bars.
The catch is that you don’t want to be the one who has to take a bite out of the last chocolate square. That’s because the last chocolate square is poisoned! Yikes! So, the goal of the game is to strategically take bites in a way that forces your opponent to take the last bite.
Now that you know how to play Chomp!, it’s time for some strategy. You see, this game isn’t just about mindlessly chomping away at chocolate. No, it’s a game that requires you to think ahead and plan your moves carefully. You want to set up your opponent so that they’re forced to take that last poisonous bite.
It may sound easy, but let me tell you, this game can get pretty intense. You’ll need to use your brain power and come up with clever strategies to outsmart your opponent. Trust me, you’ll be on the edge of your seat the whole time!
So, there you have it – the exciting game of Chomp! Remember, the goal is to strategically take bites and force your opponent to take the last poisonous bite. It’s a game of skill, strategy, and a little bit of luck. Are you ready to take on the challenge? I know you are! So, grab your imaginary chocolate bars and let’s get chomping!

Before we Begin…
Let’s get familiar with the creatures of the sea and learn who chomps what. Take a moment to explore the cards and discover the fascinating world of the food chain. Remember, understanding each creature’s place in the ecosystem is the key to victory!
The Chomp Game: A Chain of Chomping
Hey there! Let me explain how the Chomp game works. You see, in this game, the higher you are on the food chain, the more you can chomp. But wait, there are a few rules! We’re civilized, after all.
You can’t chomp your own kind or anything higher up the food chain. Respect, right? That means no chomping an Octopus or an Electric Eel. They’re the special cards, by the way. Now, let’s dive into the Chomp’s Food Chain order:
- Shark: They rule the food chain! A Shark can chomp anything that’s not a Shark, Octopus, or Electric Eel. No one can chomp a Shark, though. They’re untouchable!
- Seal: Seals can chomp a Big Fish, Little Fish, Shrimp, or Plankton.
- Bigfish: These guys can chomp a Little Fish, Shrimp, or Plankton.
- Little fish: They can chomp Shrimp or Plankton. Not too shabby!
- Shrimp: Shrimps can only chomp Plankton. Simple as that.
- Punkton: Unfortunately, the Punkton card can’t chomp anything. Tough luck, guys.
Getting Started
We’re going to start by learning the order of chomping. First, let’s remove the two Chomp! sequence cards. Then, we’ll shuffle all the remaining cards and deal them face down to each player. Make sure everyone gets an equal number of cards.
Any cards that are left over can be put back in the box. We won’t be using them for now. Take the stack of cards you just dealt and place it face down in front of you. It’s important not to peek at your cards!
Now we’re ready to begin playing the game. Good luck!
A Fun Game of Chomp!
When we play this game, we all flip over a card and place it in the middle. The goal is to be the first to slap the card with the lowest creature and yell “Chomp!” to win the round.
If I manage to chomp a card, I collect all the cards that are lower on the food chain and put them in my separate discard pile. But if my card can’t chomp, it goes in my discard pile instead.
Just a reminder: if my card is the lowest, I can’t chomp.
For example, let’s say there are four of us playing. We flip over a Seal card, a Shark card, and two Big Fish cards.
Since the Big Fish is the lowest creature in this game, only the players with the Seal and Shark cards can chomp this round.
The first player to slap one of the Big Fish cards and shout “Chomp!” is the winner!
Possible Outcomes
If I’m the player with the Shark card and I chomp first, I get to take all the cards because the Shark is at the top of the food chain.
If the player with the Seal card chomps first, she gets to take both Big Fish cards and her own card. She can’t chomp the Shark card because it’s higher than the Seal on the food chain, so I put my card in my discard pile.
The game continues with all players turning over their top card at the same time.
When my pile of cards runs out, I shuffle my discard pile, put it face down in front of me, and keep playing.
Beware the Bad Chomp
You have to be quick, but not too quick, or you might make a Bad Chomp.
You make a Bad Chomp if you:
- slap another player’s card that’s higher on the food chain than yours, or
When you’re playing the game called “Chomp,” you have to be quick and keep an eye on the cards. The goal is to collect as many cards as you can, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Here’s how the game goes:
First, everyone gets a deck of cards. These cards have different pictures on them, like animals, objects, and symbols. You shuffle your cards and put them face down in front of you. This is your pile.
Then, you take turns flipping the top card from your pile and putting it in the middle of the playing area. As you do this, you need to pay attention to what everyone else is doing. You’re looking for cards that match yours.
If you see a card that looks the same as yours, you can slap it! There are three ways to slap the cards:
1. Slap another player’s card that’s the same as yours,
2. Slap your own card, or
3. Slap a card in an Octopus Ink Out.
But be careful! If you make a mistake and slap the wrong card, you have to face the consequences. You have to put the top card from your pile face down in the playing area. This is called a Bad Chomp.
The player who slaps the correct card first wins the round. They get to take all the cards in the center, including the cards that were chomped. If no one slaps the right card, the cards stay in the center for the next round.
There are also special cards called Action Cards. These cards have special powers that can help you win. Keep an eye out for them and use them wisely.
So, in the game of Chomp, you have to be quick, observant, and strategic. Slap the right cards, avoid the wrong ones, and be the one with the most cards in the end. Good luck!
Electric Eel: Hungry for Action!
When an Electric Eel card is revealed, it’s feeding time! Get ready for some action-packed fun. Any player can seize the opportunity to chomp on someone else’s card, except their own.
The quickest player to slap another player’s card and shout “Feeding Frenzy!” gets to scarf down all the cards, even those that rank higher on the food chain.
Octopus: Time to Get Messy!
When I sense danger, I squirt ink to darken the water around me. This makes it impossible for anyone to see me, preventing them from attacking. It’s like playing a game of cards, where the stakes are high and the tension is palpable.
During the game, each player takes turns playing a card. The challenge is to slap the lowest card on the table and shout “Chomp!” before anyone else does. The player who succeeds gets to collect all the cards from the current round, as well as the cards from a special round called Octopus Ink Out.
If there are any cards from the current round that I can’t chomp, the players who turned them over get to keep them. It’s a bit frustrating, but it adds an extra element of strategy to the game.
However, if you mistakenly chomp when an Octopus card is turned over, you’ve made a Bad Chomp. It’s important to pay close attention and only chomp when it’s the right time.
Octopus vs. Electric Eel
There’s an interesting twist when an Octopus and an Electric Eel show up at the same time. In this scenario, the Eel prevails and a Feeding Frenzy begins! It’s a thrilling moment that can completely change the course of the game.
Breaking a Tie
Sometimes, two or more players might chomp at the exact same time. When this happens, we have to set aside the cards just played and start a new round. It’s a way to ensure fairness and avoid any disputes.
When I play the card game, each player takes a turn to play a single card. The player who slaps down the card with the lowest value and shouts “Chomp!” is the winner of that round and gets to collect all the cards that were put up for grabs.
If there were any cards left over from the previous round, the winner also has the chance to chomp on them. However, if there are any cards that the winner cannot chomp, those cards go back to the players who had turned them over.
The End of the Game
If all of your cards get taken by other players, it means you’re out of the game. You can keep playing until there are only two players left who still have cards in their hands.
When there are only two players left, they have two options. They can either count up their cards and determine the winner based on the player with the most cards, or they can switch to one of the special two-player games listed below and keep playing.
Two-player Games
In these three games, the goal is to collect all of the cards. The rules are slightly different from the regular gameplay, but Bad Chomps are still Bad Chomps.
Underwater War
When we play the game, each of us will flip over the top card from our deck simultaneously. The card that stands higher in the food chain will win, and the player who holds that card will collect both cards. In the event of a tie, we’ll place two cards facedown and one card face up in the middle.
Whoever has the higher face-up card in the food chain will take all of the cards. But there’s a twist! If an Electric Eel card is revealed, the first player to quickly slap the Eel card and yell “Feeding Frenzy!” gets to grab all the cards.
Now, if an Octopus card is drawn, things get interesting. Each player will reveal the next card from their deck, and the player who has the higher card in the food chain will take all the cards.
Get Ready for Some Fast Action!
In Quick Chomp!, the rules are slightly different. Both players will quickly flip over the top card from their decks at the same time. The goal is to be the first to slap the card that is lower in the food chain, regardless of who flipped it over.
When it comes to the card game “Underwater War,” the winner gets both cards. But what happens in a tie? Well, that’s when things get interesting. In this game, tie-breakers, Electric Eel cards, and Octopus cards all come into play. It adds an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the game.
Now, let’s talk about “Double Chomp!”
Here’s how it works: each player splits their deck in half and flips over the top two cards simultaneously. The goal is to be the first player to spot the card that is at the lowest level of the food chain. When you see it, you have to quickly slap your hand down on the card and shout “Chomp!” If you succeed, you get to take all four cards that were flipped over. It’s a fast-paced and thrilling game.
Just like in the regular game, tie-breakers, Electric Eel cards, and Octopus cards are all important. So make sure you know what they mean and how they can impact your chances of winning. Keep your eyes peeled and your reflexes sharp!
