Welcome to the Chocolatiers Game!
In this game, I’ll explain the rules you need to follow in order to play. I’m really excited to show you how to play this fun and delicious game! Believe me, you’re in for a treat!
Object of the Game
The goal of the Chocolatiers game is to create the most magnificent and mouthwatering chocolate bars. You’ll be using different ingredients and tools to craft your delicious masterpieces. Keep in mind that the more exquisite and unique your chocolate bars are, the more points you’ll earn!
Game Setup
Before we begin, we need to set up the game. First, shuffle the Ingredient cards and place them face-down in a stack. Then, shuffle the Tool cards and place them face-down in a separate stack. Finally, create a supply of Chocolate tokens within reach of all players. Each player will also need a player mat to keep track of their chocolate bars.
Turn Sequence
Now that everything is ready, I’ll explain the turn sequence in the Chocolatiers game. This is how the game flows:
1. Draw an Ingredient Card: On your turn, the first thing you do is draw an Ingredient card from the top of the stack. This card represents a specific ingredient that you can use in your chocolate bar creation.
2. Play a Tool Card: Next, it’s time to play a Tool card. This card represents a tool you can use to enhance your chocolate bar. You can choose to play a Tool card from your hand or skip this step if you don’t want to use a tool.
3. Craft a Chocolate Bar: After playing a Tool card (or not), it’s time to craft your chocolate bar. Take an ingredient from your hand and place it on your player mat to create a chocolate bar. Be creative and try to make the most delicious combinations!
4. Score Points: Finally, it’s time to score points! Each ingredient card has a point value on it. Add up the points from the ingredients you used in your chocolate bar and take that number of Chocolate tokens from the supply. Place the tokens on your player mat to keep track of your score.
5. Refill Your Hand: To end your turn, draw back up to your hand limit. The hand limit depends on the number of players. If there are more players, the hand limit is lower. If there are fewer players, the hand limit is higher.
Game End and Final Scoring
The game ends when the Ingredient stack runs out. At this point, each player gets one final turn. After the final turn, it’s time for final scoring!
Count up the total number of Chocolate tokens each player has collected throughout the game. The player with the most tokens is the ultimate Chocolatier and wins the game! If there’s a tie, the player with the most unique Ingredient cards used in their chocolate bars breaks the tie.
Now that you know the rules of the Chocolatiers game, it’s time to gather your friends and enjoy this exciting and delicious adventure! Get ready to become a master Chocolatier and create the most magnificent chocolate bars ever! Have fun!

Setup
Here’s how you set up the game: shuffle the Chocolate cards and deal 3 Chocolate cards to each player face-down. These cards will be your opening hand, so make sure to keep them a secret!
Hey there! Let’s get started with the game setup. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Each player should grab 3 Wild Chocolate tokens. If there are any leftover tokens, just put them aside for now.
2. Now, let’s create the Share Tray. Take 6 Chocolate cards and place them face-up in the center of the play area. This will be the Share Tray. Keep the remaining Chocolate cards nearby; this will be the Chocolate deck. Remember, the area to the left of the Chocolate deck is where we’ll place the discard pile.
3. Time to set up the Box tiles! Shuffle the tiles and create 5 stacks above the Share Tray. The number of tiles in each stack depends on the number of players: Use 5 tiles if there are 4 players, 4 tiles for 3 players, and 3 tiles if it’s just the two of you. Put any unused Box tiles back in the box.
4. Lastly, we’ll arrange the Scoring cards. Place them face-up above the Box tile stacks, from left to right, in this order: First, Truffle, Nut Cluster, Raspberry, Mint, Blueberry, and Violet.
In this game, the order in which players take turns is determined by who ate chocolate last. So, if it’s you, then you will be the first to go. On the other hand, if I ate chocolate last, then I will have the privilege of going first. It’s a fun and unique way to decide who gets to start!
When it’s game time, here’s how we play. Each player takes turns, starting with the first player and moving clockwise. During your turn, you’ll go through three phases in this order: the Action Phase, the Bonus Phase (if you want), and the End Phase. Once you’ve completed these three phases, your turn is over and it’s the next player’s turn.
Let’s start with the Action Phase. During this phase, you have two actions to choose from:
1. Take a Chocolate: You can take one of the Chocolate cards from the Share Tray. Just remember, you can’t take a Chocolate card from the Chocolate deck.
2. Swap Chocolates: If you prefer, you can swap one of your Chocolate cards with one of another player’s Chocolate cards.
After you’ve taken your chosen action, it’s time for the Bonus Phase. And from there, you’ll move on to the End Phase.
When you play the game, start by placing one Chocolate card from your hand face-up on the Share Tray. Then, you get to choose two Chocolate cards from the Share Tray. But be careful! You can’t take a Chocolate card from the Chocolate deck.
2. Bonus Phase
Now, here’s where things get really interesting. You have the option to take one of two bonus actions:
- Box Chocolates
- Place a Wild Chocolate
Once you’ve decided whether or not to take a bonus action, your turn continues to the End Phase.
Box Chocolates
If you choose the “Box Chocolates” bonus action, you’ll need to discard Chocolate cards from your hand that match the chocolates on a Box tile. But wait, there’s more! Once you discard the cards, you’ll take possession of the Box tile. How sweet is that?

Example: Let’s say I’m Claire, and I really want a Box tile that has 2 Violet and 2 Truffle chocolates. So what I do is I get rid of 2 Violet Chocolate cards and 2 Truffle Chocolate cards from my hand. And in return, I get to have that Box tile all to myself.
Here’s the cool part – if you have 2 Chocolate cards that match the ones shown on a Box tile, you can give them up in exchange for just 1 of those chocolates on the Box tile. And the best part is, you can do this as many times as you want!

Example: So, let me tell you a story about a guy named David. David really wants this Box tile that has 1 Raspberry, 1 Blueberry, and 1 Nut Cluster. But the problem is, he doesn’t have a Blueberry Chocolate card. What to do, what to do?
Well, David comes up with a clever solution. He decides to discard 1 Raspberry and 1 Nut Cluster Chocolate card from his hand. But here’s the cool part – he’s going to use 2 Truffle Chocolate cards instead of the needed Blueberry Chocolate. Genius, right?
Once David successfully substitutes the chocolates, he can finally take ownership of the coveted Box tile. Exciting stuff!
Now, the important thing to remember is that once you have a Box tile, you have to add it to your Display right away. Your Display is basically a group of Box tiles in front of you. And guess what? At the end of the game, each Box tile in your Display is worth a specific number of points, as indicated in the center of the tile. Cool, huh?
So, there you have it. A tale of triumph and strategy. If you want to be successful in this game, just follow in David’s footsteps and think outside the box. Pun intended!
When you get a Box tile for the first time, just put it face-up in front of you to begin your Display. But if you already have a Box tile, things get a little trickier. You have to put the new tile right next to another Box tile in your Display, making sure that the entire edge lines up perfectly with the edge of the existing tile.

Hey there! Let’s talk about Box tiles and chocolates! You can rotate the Box tiles whenever you need to. It’s fun because the chocolates on the adjacent tiles don’t have to match, but they might help you score more points later on.
Here’s an important rule though – once you put a Box tile in your Display, it stays where it is. You can’t move it or rotate it anymore in the future. So choose wisely!
And remember, your Display can never be bigger than 3 Box tiles wide and 2 Box tiles tall. You can have it positioned horizontally or vertically, it’s up to you.
Let’s Talk Wild Chocolate
Now, here’s the exciting part! You have these Wild Chocolate tokens, and you can place one of them wherever you like. It’s like a special treat that you can use to your advantage.

Here’s a story for you: I have some Raspberry chocolates in my Display, but they’re not connected. If I want to win the Raspberry Scoring card for having the most connected Raspberry chocolates, I need to connect them.
To do that, I’ll take one of my Wild Chocolate tokens and place it on my Display, making sure that it connects the Raspberry chocolates.
The cool thing about Wild Chocolate tokens on Box tiles is that they count as all of the chocolates next to them at the end of the game when we’re giving out Scoring cards. Sometimes, a Wild Chocolate can count as more than one type of chocolate.
If I want to, I can cover up a chocolate in a Box tile with the Wild Chocolate. But remember, the Wild Chocolate itself doesn’t count as the chocolate underneath it. It only counts as the chocolates that are next to it.
Once I add a Wild Chocolate token to my Display, I can’t move it in future turns. So I need to think carefully about where I place it.
If you don’t have a Box tile in your Display or any unplaced Wild Chocolate tokens, you can’t perform this action. Make sure you meet these requirements before proceeding.
Keep in mind: When the game ends, any Wild Chocolate tokens that you have but haven’t placed in your Display will be worth 1 point each.
3. End Phase
You can’t have more than 6 Chocolate cards in your hand by the end of your turn. If you have more than 6, you can choose to discard any Chocolate card(s) you want from your hand.
If there are less than 6 Chocolate cards in the Share Tray, draw from the Chocolate deck to bring the Share Tray up to 6 cards. If the Chocolate deck runs out, shuffle the discarded cards to create a new deck.
Make sure to review the end-game conditions below. After completing your turn, the next player to your left will take their turn.
End of the Game
When I’m playing the game, my goal is to fill my Display with 6 Box tiles. Once I achieve this, I get the First Scoring card right away! It’s a race to be the first one to reach this milestone.
But the game doesn’t end there. All the other players get one more turn after I reach 6 Box tiles. After that, it’s time to award the Scoring cards and move on to Final Scoring.
Let’s Talk About Scoring
Each Scoring card has a picture of a chocolate on it. The cards are given to the player who has the most connected chocolates in their Display that match the chocolate on the card. It’s all about making those yummy connections!
Oh, and don’t forget to count the Wild Chocolate tokens. They can add to the number of connected chocolates in your Display. They’re like a secret ingredient!
If two or more players tie for the most connected chocolates, then the Scoring card isn’t awarded to anyone. It’s a close call, but no chocolatey victory this time. The card gets flipped face-down.
Calculating Your Final Score
To determine your final score in the game, you need to consider a few factors. First, add up the points indicated in the center of each Box tile in your Display. Don’t forget to include any points awarded to you from Scoring cards. Additionally, for every Wild Chocolate token you have, give yourself 1 point, as long as it is not already in your Display.
At the end of the game, the player with the highest total score is declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the player among the tied participants with the most Scoring cards takes the victory. If there is still a tie, all tied players share the win! So give it your all and aim for the highest score possible!

Example: The perfect example shown above displays Kira achieving the highest number of connected Mint chocolates (5) and Nut Cluster chocolates (5), which grants her the Mint and Nut Cluster Scoring cards. Kira’s end score is calculated as follows: 3 points for the Mint chocolates, 4 points for the Nut Cluster chocolates, 1 unused Wild Chocolate token, and 25 points for the Box Points. Thus, Kira accumulates a total of 37 points.
