Getting Ready

- First, I’d suggest placing the Play Mat A right in the center of where you’ll be playing.
- Now let’s get those Scoring Cards B set up. Take four of them and place them face-up in a row on the Play Mat. You can start with the cards labeled Variety, Repetition, Unity, and Composition. Any extra cards can go back in the box for now.
- Next, grab those Ribbon Tokens (0 and let’s organize them. Put them in four piles right next to the matching ribbon icons on the Play Mat.
- It’s time to get the Art Deck D ready. Shuffle it up and then place it face-down in the deck space. Now, draw five cards and put them face-up on the spaces to the left of the deck.
- Now we’ll need to sleeve those Background Cards E. Each player should take three sleeved backgrounds.
- To keep track of our inspiration, each player takes four Inspiration Tokens G. Any extras get put back in the box.
What’s the Game About?
Hey there! So, you and I are in this painting competition, right? The goal is to create amazing paintings by layering Art Cards together. Let me explain.
As we go along, we’ll collect different Art Cards. These cards have all sorts of cool icons on them. When we place them in a certain order, we can either reveal or cover up these icons. It’s this mix and match that triggers different scoring conditions. Pretty neat, huh?
Now, here’s the really fun part. Each time we layer our Art Cards, we create a unique painting! The combination of cards gives us a cool illustration and title for our masterpiece!
Once we’ve each made three paintings, the game is over. The player with the highest number of points wins the prestigious Best In Show award! How awesome is that?
How to Play the Game
Hey there! Let’s dive into the world of this exciting game. The rules are pretty simple, so don’t worry if you’re just starting out. I’ll walk you through it!
Take an Art Card
When it’s your turn, you have two options. You can either take an Art Card or complete a painting. But remember, if you already have 5 Art Cards in hand, you must complete a painting next.
If you have less than 5 Art Cards in your hand, you can choose to take one Art Card from the five face-up cards. Take a look at the cards and decide which one you want. Oh, and don’t forget to place one of your Inspiration Tokens on each card to the left of the one you’ve chosen.
If the card you choose has tokens on it, don’t forget to take them too! But keep in mind, the leftmost card is free and doesn’t require any tokens. You can’t pick a card that costs more tokens than you have.
Once you’ve selected your Art Card, slide all the cards in the direction of the arrows on the Play Mat. This will create an empty space next to the deck. To fill this space, draw a new Art Card from the deck and place it there.

Hey there! Let me tell you about a game called Abby’s Card Challenge. It’s a fun game where Abby gets to make choices and place tokens on cards. Abby is faced with three cards, and she has to pick one. She decides to go with the 3rd card.
So here’s what Abby does. She takes one of her tokens and puts it on the 1st card. Then, she takes another token and places it on the 2nd card. Finally, Abby takes the 3rd card.
Abby’s Card Challenge is all about making decisions and using tokens to mark the cards you choose. It’s an exciting game that keeps you on your toes. Ready to give it a try?

Isn’t it cool how the cards just slide to the left and fill up the empty space? And then a whole new card gets drawn and put on the right side. It’s like a magical dance!

When it’s my turn, I decide to choose the 2nd card. I place one of my tokens on the 1st card and then take the 2nd card with Abby’s token on it.
Create a Beautiful Painting
Now, I get to make a painting! I get to pick 3 of my Art Cards and cover them with one of my Background Cards. I can layer my Art Cards in any way I want. But, only the icons that I can see count. Any icons that are hidden are not included. I can keep any extra cards that I have for future paintings.

When I play the game, I choose three cards from my hand and put them in one of my sleeves. I keep the other two cards aside for now.
I show my painting to the other players and tell them its title. Then, I compare the icons on my painting to the conditions on each Scoring Card. Every time my painting meets a condition, I can take a ribbon from the supply.
Some conditions can be met multiple times with the same painting. This means I can take multiple ribbons at once. But if I’ve already scored the maximum number of points from a Scoring Card, I don’t get any more ribbons for that condition.

I just finished my painting. I managed to fill all 5 slots, which means I earned a Ribbon for Composition. Additionally, my painting has 2 pairs of shapes which are repeated, so I also received 2 Ribbons for Repetition.
Art Card Icons

- Design has 4 main elements. Each Scoring Card needs specific elements for scoring.

Hey there! Let me break down the important stuff for you. You know those bonus icons? Well, they’re pretty cool. On a painting, they can earn you 1 point for each element that they represent. But here’s the thing, bonus icons themselves don’t count towards your score. So, keep an eye out for them, but don’t let them trick you into thinking they’re worth anything on their own.

Hey there! Let me explain how the background colors can help you figure out where an icon is on the scoring card. It’s actually pretty simple – each color corresponds to a different slot. For instance, the color red always represents the 1st slot.
Understanding Scoring Card Rules
Here’s a general rule to remember: each icon can only be counted once on the scoring card. This means that you can’t count the same icon more than once. It’s important to keep this in mind when you’re filling out your scoring card.

-
About Composition Scores: If you see icons in all five slots, you’ll get a score. Even bonus icons count as filling slots and contribute to your score.

The Scoreboard: Texture takes the top spot on the hierarchy. If Texture is the most utilized element, it earns points. However, if it’s tied with another element for first place, no points are awarded.

Let’s talk about movement in a game. Movement is important because it helps you score points. In this game, you get points if the same element appears in three slots in a row. But be careful, if you have four consecutive elements, you don’t get double the points. It’s like a tricky rule that you need to remember.

Proximity: If you have Texture that is right next to Tone, you’ll get a score. But if Texture and Tone are in the same slot, they don’t count as adjacent.

Space: When I think about space in art, I imagine how colors and shapes can coexist in a painting. It’s fascinating to me that they can be right next to each other or far apart, and yet still contribute to the overall composition. So, what does this mean exactly? Well, let me explain.
In art, space refers to the way elements are arranged on a canvas. It’s all about the relationship between colors and shapes. And believe it or not, even if two colors or shapes are right next to each other, they can still create a sense of space. It’s like they have their own little universe within the painting.
But here’s the thing – for a painting to truly capture space, it needs more than just adjacent colors and shapes. It also needs a separate set of colors and shapes that are not right next to each other. This combination of adjacent and non-adjacent elements is what brings the painting to life and makes it three-dimensional, even though it’s on a flat canvas.
When I look at a painting that successfully captures space, it feels like I can step right into it and explore the world within. It’s like the colors and shapes are inviting me to join them on a journey. And that’s the beauty of space in art – it sparks my imagination and makes me feel like anything is possible.
So, the next time you admire a painting, take a moment to appreciate the space within. Notice how the colors and shapes interact with each other, both adjacent and non-adjacent. Let your imagination run wild and see where the painting takes you. Who knows, you might just discover a whole new universe.

In this game, scoring points is based on having elements in symmetrical slots. These slots can be either the red and purple slots or the yellow and blue slots. It doesn’t matter if the element is on the top or bottom of the slots. Additionally, a single element can be symmetrical with a slot that already has two elements. It’s all about finding symmetry!
The Game Ends
The game ends when each player has completed three paintings. Once you finish your third painting, your turns are skipped until all players have completed their third painting.
To calculate your final score, follow these steps:
- Score points based on the number of Ribbons in each set. Look at the Scoring Cards to see how many points each set is worth. The more Ribbons you collect in a set, the more points you will earn.
- For each element on a painting that has a matching Bonus icon, you earn one point.
In this game, the goal is to collect as many points as possible. The player who has the most points at the end of the game will be declared the winner. However, if there is a tie between players, we have a couple of rules to determine the winner.
If there is a tie for the most points, we look at the number of Inspiration Tokens each player has. The player with more Inspiration Tokens will be declared the winner.
In the rare case that there is still a tie after comparing Inspiration Tokens, we have a solution for that too! The runner-up will step in and judge the artwork created by the tied players. They will carefully analyze the artwork and declare a winner based on their judgment.
Let’s take a look at an example to understand the scoring better:

Abby’s Score = 25
- Ribbons gave me 19 points (2+7+3+7)
- I got 6 points from Bonus icons (2+4)
