In this magical land filled with candy-themed characters and vibrant landscapes, you and your friends will embark on an exciting journey to reach the magnificent Candy Castle.
The rules of the game are quite simple. First, you need to set up the game board by placing the four characters – Cupcake Commons, Gumdrop Mountain, Lollipop Palace, and Peppermint Forest – at their respective starting positions. Then, take turns drawing cards from the deck and follow the instructions.
Each card will lead you further along the path towards the Candy Castle, but beware! Some cards may cause you to lose a turn or go back a few spaces. But don’t worry, the sugary adventure is just beginning!
As you make your way through the whimsical Candy Land, you’ll encounter various characters who will make your journey even sweeter. Meet Princess Lolly, Jolly, Gramma Nutt, and Lord Licorice, among others. They will offer you special candies that can give you an extra boost or impact the game in unexpected ways.
The first player to reach the Candy Castle wins the game and becomes the ruler of Candy Land Sweet Celebration! But remember, the path to victory is filled with twists and turns, so keep your wits about you.

Hey there! I’ve got some exciting news – I want to invite you to a super fun party at Candy Castle! But hold on, before you embark on this sweet adventure, you’re going to have to journey along the magical rainbow path and gather some tasty treats to bring along with you.
Now here’s the deal: the first person to gather up all their treats and make it to the party will be the absolute guest of honor!
Getting Ready
- Put the pawns into the stands.
- Put together each Sweet Stop with its corresponding Treat Tokens, following the example below:
So, here’s what you do. First, grab those gumdrop path pieces and stick one in each Sweet Stop. Next, take the “start” path piece and slide it into the spinner’s notch (check out the picture below if you need a visual).
Create Your Path
Start with the “start” piece and keep adding as many path pieces as you want. And remember, don’t forget to pop in those Sweet Stops as you go!
Oh, and one more thing: If you want to make the game shorter, just use fewer path pieces. The character end pieces will come in handy for closing off any open paths. Take a look at Figure 3 for an example of the whole game setup.

- Alright, here’s what we need to do. First, let’s decide how many treat tokens we want to collect before we head to the castle. If we’re feeling up for a challenge, we can go for all four. But if we want to keep it easy, we can aim for just three.
- Next, we’ll need to place Lord Licorice on any space with his picture. But if we want to make things a little easier, we can skip using the Lord Licorice piece altogether. Totally up to us!
- Now it’s time to choose our characters. Each player can pick one of the remaining characters and put it on the start space.
- Okay, let’s get this game started! The youngest player gets to go first, and then we’ll take turns going clockwise.
Let’s Play
When it’s my turn, I spin the spinner and go to the nearest gumdrop or color space. If I spin “doubles” (the pink area on the spinner), I spin again and move ahead 2 spaces of that color.
If I land on a color space, my turn is done.
If I land on a gumdrop space, I can collect a treat (see Collecting Treats below) and move Lord Licorice to any Lord Licorice Space (see Lord Licorice, below). Then my turn is over.
Lord Licorice
Whenever you play the game, the Lord Licorice pawn can be a real challenge. It’s like a roadblock that prevents you from moving forward. Whenever you collect a treat, you have a choice: You can either leave Lord Licorice where he is or move him to a different spot on the board, making it harder for other players to reach the Sweet Stops.
It’s important to remember that if Lord Licorice is blocking the path, you can’t go any further in that direction. You’ll have to find another way or wait for Lord Licorice to be moved.
Gathering Treats
The ultimate goal of the game is to collect treats from each Sweet Stop. There are four Sweet Stops in total, and at each stop, you’ll need to perform a special action to collect a treat. Here’s what you need to do at each of the four Sweet Stops:

The SS Neapolitan is a ship that’s docked at Ice Cream Harbor. To get an ice cream token, you’ll need to move the parrot one step up the mast. This will unlock a treat for you to enjoy!

Remember, once you’ve visited a Sweet Stop and collected its treat, you won’t be able to get the same treat from that location again. So choose wisely!

Game Over
The person who gets all their goodies and makes it to the castle first is the winner!
Take the treats you’ve gathered and put them on the castle steps. Then, give the dial on the back of the castle a spin and switch it until your character’s face appears. That means you’re the special guest!
