The Exciting Game of Camel Up
Introduction
Camel Up is a highly entertaining board game that revolves around camel racing. In this game, players take on the roles of spectators who are placing bets on the camels they think will win the race. The game combines luck, strategy, and a bit of chaos, making it a thrilling experience for players of all ages.
Objective
The objective of Camel Up is to predict the outcome of a camel race and earn the most money from your bets. Players earn money by correctly guessing the winner or placing bets on other possible outcomes, such as which camel will come in second or third.
Game Components
The game includes a game board, five wooden camels in different colors, a pyramid-shaped dice roller, race betting cards, and money cards. The game board represents the racetrack, and the dice roller determines the movement of the camels. The race betting cards are used to place bets on the camels, while the money cards are used to keep track of players’ earnings.
Gameplay
At the beginning of each round, the camels start at the starting line. The player who rolls the dice becomes the first player, and the game proceeds in clockwise order from there. On their turn, players have three options: they can either place a bet, roll the dice, or move a camel.
When a player places a bet, they choose one of the available race betting cards and bet on a particular outcome. They then place their bet card face down in front of them. If their prediction is correct, they earn money at the end of the round.
Rolling the dice is an exciting part of the game. The dice determine how the camels move on the racetrack. Each die corresponds to a different camel, and the result of the roll determines how far the camel moves. The position of the camels on the racetrack constantly changes throughout the game, adding an element of unpredictability.
On some turns, players can choose to move a camel instead of rolling the dice. They can either move a camel one space forward or move a stack of camels, with the top camel moving to the front of the stack. This strategic move can potentially change the outcome of the race and affect the players’ bets.
Winning the Game
The game ends when all the camels have crossed the finish line. At this point, players reveal their race betting cards and earn money based on the outcome of their bets. The player with the most money at the end of the game is declared the winner.
Conclusion
Camel Up is an engaging and thrilling game that combines luck and strategy. Whether you are a seasoned board game enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of tabletop gaming, Camel Up offers an enjoyable and unique experience. So gather your friends and family, place your bets, and get ready for the exciting race of the camels!

When it comes to playing Pyramid, you’ll need a few things to get started:
- 1 Pyramid
- 1 Game board
- 5 Camels
- 5 Dice
- 40 Race Betting cards
- 8 Desert tiles
- 15 Leg Betting tiles
- 5 Pyramid tiles
- 50 Egyptian Pound coins
- 20 Egyptian Pound cards
- 1 Leg Starting Player marker
Let’s set up the game:
- Place the Game board in the middle of the table.
- Stack the 5 Pyramid tiles on their designated space on the Game board.
- Sort the Leg Betting tiles by color. There are 5 colors in total. Stack the tiles in the following order for each color: 2-money tile at the bottom, 3-money tile in the middle, and 5-money tile on top. Place each stack on its corresponding space on the Game board.
Alright, here’s what you need to do to play Camel Up:
Put the 5 camels on the tents next to the Leg Betting tiles. Each camel should go on the tent that matches its color.
Take the Egyptian Pound coins and cards, and sort them by their values. Put them next to the game board as a supply. This supply is called the “bank”.- Give each player the 5 Race Betting cards for one character, and also give them the Desert tile for that character. Put any extra Race Betting cards and Desert tiles back in the box. Each player should keep their hand of five cards hidden from the other players and put their Desert tile in front of them.

To start the game, each player will receive 3 Egyptian Pounds as their starting capital. This money should be placed in front of each player.
The youngest player will be given the Leg Starting Player marker.
Alright, now it’s time to set up the race! The youngest player is in charge of this job. Grab all 5 dice and roll them together. Whatever number is facing up on each die determines where the corresponding camel will start on the race track. Let’s go through it step by step:
How the Camels Move

Hey there! Let me tell you all about the exciting game of Camel Racing! It’s a super fun game where you get to control the movement of the Camels on a race track. And guess what? The Camels move in a clockwise direction to make things even more interesting!
So here’s how the game works. To move the Camels, the players use a special tool called the Pyramid. It’s like a little device that you turn upside down and slide to reveal a colored die. And believe me, this Pyramid adds a whole new level of excitement to the game!
Now, when you reveal the colored die, the number it shows tells you how many spaces you need to move the Camel of that color. So let’s say the die shows the number 3 and the revealed color is blue. You would then move the blue Camel forward three spaces. Simple, right?
All in all, Camel Racing is a thrilling game that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. Just remember, it’s the Pyramid that determines how the Camels move, and the colored die adds that extra element of surprise. So gather your friends and get ready for a wild race!

Stacking Camels like a Pro!
When it comes to camels, did you know that they have a cool trick up their hump? It’s called a Camel stack, and I’m here to spill the beans! Picture this: a group of camels hanging out together in the desert. If one of these camels decides to make a move, something remarkable happens. It brings along every camel that’s sitting on top of it!
Let me break it down for you. Say we have a Camel stack: a bunch of camels stacked on top of each other. When the camel at the bottom starts moving, it takes all the other camels with it. It’s like a chain reaction, but with animals!
But wait, what about the camels beneath? Well, they don’t budge an inch. They stay right where they are, chilling in the sand. So, it’s only the camels on top of the moving camel that get in on the action.
Isn’t nature amazing? It’s these little quirks that make our animal friends so fascinating. I hope you’re as amazed as I am by the incredible power of the Camel stack. Now, go out there and impress your friends with your newfound camel knowledge!

A Camel unit
Hey there! Let me explain the concept of a Camel unit to you. It’s actually pretty simple. You see, sometimes we move single Camels, and other times we move stacks of Camels. So, when we talk about a Camel unit, we’re referring to either a single Camel or a stack of Camels.
Now, here’s something important to keep in mind: if a Camel unit ends up on a space where there’s another Camel unit, it will jump right on top of that other unit. It’s like a little Camel tower!
Oh, and by the way, when it comes to ranking, a Camel that’s sitting on top of another Camel is always considered ahead of the one it’s sitting on. Cool, right?
The Legs
Alright, let’s talk about the Legs of the race. A Leg is basically a section of the race. And get this – a Leg ends when the last of the 5 Dice comes out of the Pyramid and the Camel it corresponds to moves. Simple, huh?
After each Leg, we have something called a Leg scoring round. This is when players receive or lose money based on the tiles they’ve collected during that Leg. It’s an exciting part of the game!
Once the Leg scoring round is done, we start a new Leg by putting the acquired tiles back on the game board and returning the 5 Dice to the Pyramid. It’s like hitting the reset button and getting ready for the next part of the race.
Money
Money is something we all know and think about. It’s a funny thing, because it can have such a big impact on our lives. A lot of people say money can’t buy happiness, but I think it can definitely help. After all, it’s hard to be happy when you’re struggling to pay your bills and put food on the table. Money can give us the freedom to do the things we enjoy and take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
But money isn’t everything. Sure, it can solve a lot of problems, but it can also create new ones. It’s a double-edged sword. When we have money, we might feel pressured to spend it all, to show off and elevate our status. We might become obsessed with accumulating more and more, thinking it will make us happy. But in reality, it can lead to stress and dissatisfaction, always wanting more and never feeling satisfied.
I think the key is finding a balance. Understanding that money is a tool, not an end in itself. It’s important to take the time to think about your goals and priorities, and how money fits into the picture. Ask yourself what truly matters to you. Is it experiences and relationships? Is it security and peace of mind? Once you have a clear sense of what’s important to you, you can make decisions about how to spend and save your money in a way that aligns with your values.
It’s also important to remember that money is not the measure of a person’s worth. Whether you have a little or a lot, it doesn’t define you. You are so much more than the numbers in your bank account. Your worth comes from who you are and the positive impact you have on the world. And that’s something that no amount of money can buy.
So, when it comes to money, I encourage you to think deeply about what truly matters to you. Don’t let money be your sole focus; instead, use it as a tool to help you live a fulfilling life. By finding the balance between spending and saving, and by focusing on what brings you joy and fulfillment, you can make the most of the money you have and live a life that is rich in all the ways that matter.

In this game, we use Egyptian Pounds as our currency (EP for short). It’s important that you keep your money in front of you, where everyone can see it. But you can stack it up however you like.
You don’t have to tell anyone exactly how much money you have during the game.
Anytime you want, you can exchange your money with the bank at a rate of 1-to-1. For example, you can trade five 1 Pound coins for one 5 Pound coin, and so on.
You can’t go below 0 EP. That means if you don’t have enough money to pay a lost bet, you don’t have to.
The Game Begins
The player with the Leg Starting Player marker is the one who starts the first Leg of the game. They start by taking exactly 1 action.
When it’s my turn, I get to perform 1 action, and then the player to my left goes, and so on. We keep going in a circle, going clockwise. There are 4 different things I can do.
When it’s your turn, you have to pick 1 action and do it:
- I can take the top Leg Betting tile from any stack. This means I’m supporting the Camel of that color to win the current Leg.
- I can put my Desert tile on the Race track.
- I can take 1 Pyramid tile and then move 1 Camel using the Pyramid.
- Lastly, I can bet on the winner OR loser of the entire race. I do this by putting 1 of my Race Betting cards face down in the right spot.
The game ends as soon as the first Camel crosses the finish line. Then we have a final scoring round for the current Leg, and another round for the overall winning Camel and the overall losing Camel.

Step 1: Grab a Leg Betting tile
First, I’ll take the top Leg Betting tile from any stack on the Game board and put it in front of me. This shows that I’m backing the Camel of that color and hoping it will be in the lead at the end of the Leg.
I can collect as many Leg Betting tiles as I want during the Leg. It’s even okay to have multiple tiles of the same color in front of me.
Step 2: Place my Desert tile
Next, I’ll place my Desert tile on an empty space of the Race track. I have to make sure that the space I choose doesn’t already have a Camel or a Desert tile on it. Also, I can’t place my Desert tile on space 1 of the Race track.
Remember, I can’t put my Desert tile next to another Desert tile. So I need to choose a space that’s not right next to one.
If your Desert tile is already on the Game board, you can use this action to move it to a different space, following the same rules.
When you place or move your Desert tile, you have the choice of placing it with its Oasis side up or its Mirage side up. Each side of the Desert tile affects the movement of Camels that land on it in different ways.
Now, let’s move on to the third action.
Take one Pyramid tile from the stack on the Game board and put it in front of you.
Next, grab the Pyramid and give it a good shake. Then, reveal one Die from it.
Here’s how you use the Pyramid.

Note: If you don’t see a Die, flip the Pyramid over and give it another shake before attempting the steps again.
Once you’ve uncovered the Die, move the Camel of the same color as the Die forward by the number of spaces indicated on the Die. This can be either 1, 2, or 3 spaces.
Keep in mind that when you move a Camel that is part of a stack, it will bring along all the Camels stacked on top of it, forming a Camel unit.
For example, let’s say the orange Die is revealed and it shows a 3. In this case, the orange Camel will move 3 spaces forward, and it will also carry the yellow Camel along with it.
If a Camel unit lands on a space already occupied by another Camel unit, it will jump on top of that unit.

So here’s what happens: I roll the white Die and it shows a 2. This means the white Camel moves 2 spaces forward, with the green Camel tagging along. But wait, there’s a twist! If the yellow Camel is already on the space where they’re supposed to end up, the white and green Camels jump on top of it, forming a unit. Pretty cool, right?
Now let’s talk about Desert tiles
Imagine if a Camel unit lands on a space occupied by a Desert tile. The owner of that tile gets 1 Egyptian Pound from the bank right away. But that’s not all. Depending on which side of the tile is facing up, the Camel unit has to make an extra move: either 1 space forward or 1 space backward. It adds another layer of excitement to the game!

If the tile has its Oasis side up, I move my Camel unit 1 space forward. If I land on a space with another Camel unit, I jump on top of it, just like always.

Hey there! Let me explain how the Camel Up board game works. When the tile has the Mirage side facing up, the Camel moves 1 space backward. If it ends up on a space with another Camel, it goes underneath it. Either way, the Desert tile stays in place until the next scoring round.
After you move the Camel, put the revealed Die on the corresponding colored tent so everyone knows which Dice are already out of the Pyramid.
Now, keep the Pyramid tile you acquired in front of you. During the next scoring round, you’ll get 1 Egyptian Pound for each Pyramid tile you collected.
IV. Bet on the winner or loser

When it’s time for you to make a move, you have the opportunity to place a bet on the camel you think will ultimately come out on top. This means you quietly support the camel you believe will be the leader by the end of the game. To do this, select one of your race betting cards (in the same color as the camel you think will win), and place it facedown on the betting space for the overall winner.

If you want to bet on the camel that you think will come in last place at the end of the race, here’s what you do: secretly choose one of your race betting cards and place it face down on the betting spot for the overall loser. If there are already cards on the spot, just put yours on top. Once you place a card, it stays there, even if you realize later that you bet on the wrong camel. But don’t worry, as long as you have cards in hand, you can always choose to place one of them on either betting spot.
Now, let’s talk about the end of a leg. When a player takes the last pyramid tile from the game board, they reveal the last die from the pyramid and move the corresponding camel. After that, before the next player takes their turn, we have a leg scoring round for all players.
Okay, here’s what you need to do. First, pass the Leg Starting Player marker to the person sitting on the left side of the player who just took the last Pyramid tile. This way, we’ll know who will start the next round.
Next, let’s see which Camel is winning. We’re looking for the one that’s farthest along the Race track. If there are multiple Camels in the lead, the top one in the stack is considered the winner.
Now comes the exciting part. Each player gets some Egyptian Pounds based on the Pyramid and Leg Betting tiles in front of them. You’ll add up your total and either take that amount from the bank or pay it to the bank, depending on the outcome.
That’s it! Simple, right? Just follow these steps and you’ll be ready to go.

When you bet on a Camel in a Leg Betting tile, you can win a certain number of Egyptian Pounds. The amount of money you can win is shown right on the tile – it could be 5, 3, or 2 Egyptian Pounds.

When the Camel is in second place, I gain 1 EP for each Leg Betting tile. But if any other Camel is in second place, I lose 1 EP for each Leg Betting tile. It’s a simple rule, but it can make a big difference in the game.

When you have a Pyramid tile, you earn 1 EP. It’s like getting a reward for your progress!
Let me give you an example to explain how scoring works. In the Leg scoring round, the green Camel is leading the race, while the yellow Camel is in second place. Now, imagine that Martina has some tiles in front of her. These tiles add up to 9 Egyptian Pounds in total!

Once all players have gathered or paid their money, we need to put back all the Leg Betting and Pyramid tiles in their rightful places on the Game board, just like we did during setup. We also need to remove any Desert tiles from the Game board and give them back to their owners.
When that’s taken care of, we can put the 5 Dice back in their tents in the Pyramid. And now, it’s time to start a new Leg, with the player who has the Leg Starting Player marker going first.
The Game’s Conclusion

Once the first Camel unit crosses the finish line, the race comes to an abrupt end. Now, let’s go through the Leg scoring round one more time (as I explained earlier).
After this final Leg scoring round, it’s time for the special End scoring round for the ultimate winner and loser of the race. Begin by focusing on the face-down card deck on the Betting space for the overall winner. Remember: the bottom card was the first one placed, while the top card is the most recent. Turn the entire deck face up, so that the first card placed is now on top and the last one is at the bottom. Now it’s time for players to either gain or lose money based on the cards they’ve placed. Start from the top and go through the face-up deck card by card.
Keep in mind that only cards featuring the winning Camel will offer players a monetary gain:
When we’re playing this game, the player who put down the first card showing the real winner of the race gets 8 Egyptian Pound from the bank. If someone else placed the second card showing the winner, they receive 5 EP. The third player gets 3 EP, the fourth player gets 2 EP, and everyone else gets 1 EP.
But here’s the thing: this only applies to cards that show the actual winner. If you have a card that shows a different Camel, you have to pay 1 EP to the bank for each of those cards.
After we find out who the overall winner is, we go through the deck again to determine the overall loser. It’s the Camel that’s the least advanced. If we have a stack of Camels, it’s the one on the bottom.
