Hey there!
Listen up, because I’ve got an important message for you. When it comes to choosing your pawn in this game, pay attention – you’ll want to pick one that stands out. But don’t get carried away! Only the red, yellow, blue, and green pawns are fair game. Sorry, but the orange and purple ones are only for Blurt Junior. Rules are rules, right?
Now, let’s get this show on the road – everyone, roll the die! The player who gets the highest number gets the honor of being the first Reader. Exciting stuff, right? Let the games begin!
Here’s how the game works:
If you happen to be the Reader:

- Roll the dice to find out how many squares the first person to answer correctly will move and which Definition they will read.
- Take a card from the “Draw” side of the card box. If you roll a 1, 2, or 3, read the Definition at the top of the card. If you roll a 4, 5, or 6, read the Definition at the bottom of the card.
- Read the Definition out loud for everyone to hear.

If you’re not the Reader, you get to blurt:
- If the Reader gives the Definition, you can blurt out the word you think it defines.
- You won’t be penalized if your answer is wrong.
- You can keep blurting as many times as you want until someone guesses the correct word.
- If you’re the first one to blurt the correct word, you’ll get to move your pawn forward the number rolled.
If you’re the Reader:
- It’s up to you to determine who blurted the correct word first.
- If there’s a tie, read another Definition. Only the players who tied can blurt.
- Once someone blurts correctly, place the card in the “Discard” end of the box and pass the box to the person on your left.
- The person on your left becomes the next Reader, and the game continues with everyone taking turns as the Reader.
The Showdown
So, picture this: imagine you’re playing a game, and you land on a square that already has another player’s pawn on it. Well, guess what? It’s time for a Showdown! You and the other player on the square have to listen carefully as another player reads out a Definition.
Here’s the twist. The one who can blurt out the correct word first wins the showdown and gets to stay on the square. But if you’re not quick enough, you have to move backward the number of squares shown on the die.
The Epic Conquest
Listen up, because I’ve got some insider info for you. This game is all about taking over squares and showing off your skills. So, here’s the deal.
- When you land on a square that matches the color of your pawn, it’s time to make your move. This is your chance to challenge another player and take over their square!
- To start a takeover, place your pawn on the same square as the player you want to challenge.
- Now, it’s time to show what you’re made of. Play the game just like you would in a Showdown. The winner stays on the lead square, while the loser has to retreat back to their original square.
But wait, there’s a catch. You can only initiate a showdown or a takeover if you first land on a square that is either already occupied or matches the color of your pawn.
Here’s the deal. After a showdown or takeover, you can’t jump right into another one. You’ve got to move to a different square first in regular play. That’s just how the game goes.
The Final Showdown
Hey, guess what? The winner of the game is the first one to make it back to the “Start” after going all the way around the Game Board. Pretty cool, right? And get this – you don’t even have to land on it exactly, just get close enough.
Playing in Teams
Now, here’s a fun twist. You can play in teams, just like you would as individuals. It’s a whole new level of excitement! So, when it’s your turn to be the Reader, remember – your teammates can’t blurt out the answer, but they can totally help you figure out who on the other team(s) yelled it out first. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Oh, and here’s another thing. Instead of passing the card box from player to player, you pass it from team to team. Gotta keep things fair and square!
A Twist for the Bold
If you’re feeling like a Blurt! pro and want to spice things up a bit, I’ve got some cool variations for you. And hey, feel free to come up with your own too. The sky’s the limit!
No Second Chances
Hold on tight, because this rule is a game-changer. You only get one shot at blurting out the answer, so you better be absolutely positive you’ve got it right. If, by chance, you blurt out the wrong word, well, silence is golden. You’ll just have to sit tight until someone else gets it or until another definition is read aloud.
Blurt That Word
When the dice rolls a six, I have the thrilling task of counting and declaring the number of words in the Definition.
Now, it’s time to muster your confidence and start placing your bids. How many words from the Definition do you think you’ll need to hear in order to make an accurate guess? Remember, you only get one shot!
If you’re the player with the lowest bid, congratulations! You have the opportunity to blurt out your answer all on your own. If your guess is correct, rejoice and move forward six squares. But if you stumble and guess wrong, it’s time to go backward six squares.
