1. Game Objective
Your primary goal is to outmaneuver and outrun your opponents in a series of heart-pounding chariot races. Each race will test your strategic decision-making abilities, as you’ll need to make critical choices to ensure your path to victory.
2. Movement
During your turn, you’ll have the opportunity to move your chariot forward by rolling dice. The dice roll determines the number of spaces you can advance. Beware, though, as other players may attempt to impede your progress by placing obstacles in your path.
3. Obstacles and Power-Ups
In Ave Caesar, you may encounter various obstacles that hinder your progress, such as treacherous curves, fallen statues, or pesky rival chariots. But fear not! Along your journey, you’ll also find strategically placed power-ups that can give you an advantage, such as a burst of speed or the ability to remove obstacles blocking your way.

In this exciting game, three to six players get to compete in a thrilling race around the legendary Circus Maximus. Trust me, it’s going to be a blast!
The goal of the game is simple: be the first driver to complete three laps of the course, cross that finish line, and collect your well-deserved laurels, which are basically points. The more laurels you gather, the better your chances of victory.
Now, here’s the trick to winning this epic battle of chariots: you need to play your race cards wisely. It’s all about strategy, my friend. With each race, you’ll have the opportunity to show off your skills and make those calculated moves that will bring you closer to victory. You’ve got this!
What’s even more exciting is that we suggest playing four races as part of the tournament. So, buckle up and get ready for some intense competition. May the best charioteer win!

Getting Started
Let’s talk about how to set up the game! First, you’ll need to choose a racecourse. If you’re playing with 3 or 4 players, we recommend using side A, the white course, and going clockwise for the first race. If there are 5 or 6 players, use side B, the yellow course, and also go clockwise.
Each race consists of 3 laps, and every player must make a pit stop in the Imperial Alley once during the race. Remember, the first player to cross the finish line after completing all 3 laps is the winner.
You and I, my friend, will each receive a chariot, a coin, and a deck of cards of our chosen color. The cards in our deck are specifically designed for racing, with just enough points to help us conquer the three thrilling laps of the course.
Starting Positions
First, we all need to cut our deck of cards. The player with the highest card will be the one who gets to put their chariot on the starting position labeled 1. If there’s a tie for first place, the players who tied will have to cut again to break it.
After that, the rest of us will take our turns clockwise. Each player needs to shuffle all of their cards, including the one they cut.
To All Chariot Drivers
Listen up, folks! The key to winning is taking the shortest route on the track. That way, you’ll use the fewest movement points.
All in all, the cards give us a total of 84 movement points. If we have 3 or 4 players, we only have 4 points to spare. And if we have 5 or 6 players, we have 6 points to spare (assuming we followed the race courses suggested during preparation). So, make sure you stick close to the shortest route possible. Don’t go wasting those precious movement points!
The Game Play
When I play this game, I start by drawing 3 cards from my deck. Then, it’s my turn to play a race card and move my chariot forward the number of spaces shown on the card. After I play my card, it’s the next player’s turn, and we continue in a clockwise order. We each replenish our hands to 3 cards after playing.
The Rules of Movement
- When driving chariots, always move forward and never go backwards or sideways. If you need to change lanes, you can do so at every dashed line by moving diagonally forward to the next lane.
When we play this game, we each have to choose a card with a race on it and move our chariots. It doesn’t matter if the move is good for us or not, we still have to play a card and make our move on our turn. The important thing is that the chariot moves exactly the number of spaces shown on the card. If we can’t do that, we don’t play a card and we have to skip our turn.

Now here’s the tricky part. If I’m on my second lap and I can’t go into the Imperial Alley because someone is blocking the way, I have to wait. I have to miss a turn until the alley is free again. But remember, I have to still have my coin with me to be able to wait.

When it comes to determining the winner, the first chariot to cross the finish line is crowned victorious. In order to achieve this feat, the chariots must complete three laps and make a visit to the illustrious Imperial Alley. Once the winner is decided, points are awarded as follows:
