Rules for Playing Articulate! For Kids

Hey there! Ready to have some fun and test your language skills? Let me introduce you to Articulate! For Kids. This game is all about getting creative with words and expressing yourself. Let’s dive into the rules!

Setup

First things first, gather your friends and make sure you have the Articulate! For Kids game board, cards, and timer. You’re all set!

The Goal

So, what’s the goal of this game? It’s simple! The aim is to describe as many words as possible to your team within a specified time limit. Think fast and use your words wisely!

Teams

Divide yourselves into teams. Each team takes turns guiding their teammates to guess the words on the cards without saying the actual word. Remember, no spelling or rhyming allowed!

Categories

There are six categories that you’ll come across during the game: Object, Nature, Action, World, Person, and Random. Get ready to explore a variety of words and get your creative juices flowing.

Describing the Words

When it’s your turn to describe a word, you can’t use the word itself, any part of it, or any rhymes. Get imaginative! Use synonyms, associations, and vivid descriptions to help your team guess the word. Remember, time is ticking!

Taking Turns

Now, each team takes turns. When it’s your team’s turn, choose a card, start the timer, and get ready to describe as many words as you can. Your teammates have to guess within the time limit.

Scoring

Keep track of the words your team successfully guesses. Each correct guess earns you a point. The team with the most points at the end wins the game. Simple, right?

Enjoy and Have Fun!

That’s it! Now that you know the rules, gather your teammates, start the timer, and let the fun begin. Articulate! For Kids is a game that will challenge your language skills while bringing laughter and excitement to the table. Enjoy!

So, here’s the deal: the aim of this game is to be the first team to reach the FINISH segment. And how do you do that? Well, it’s all about correctly guessing what your teammates are describing.

Getting Started

First things first, unfold that game board and plop it right in the middle of the table. Now, gather your crew and divide into teams of two or more. Trust me, the more players per team, the better. For example, if you’ve got eight players, two teams of four beats four teams of two any day.

Each team gets to pick a playing piece and places it on the START segment. Oh, and just a heads up, the team with the youngest player gets to start the game.

How to Play

Alright, let the fun begin! Before each turn, you and your teammates need to decide who’s going to be doing the describing – we’ll call them the DESCRIBERS. Now, the rest of the gang will be the GUESSERS. Here’s the thing, though: everyone on your team MUST take a turn at being a DESCRIBER. And no matter how many players you have on your team, there will never be more than two DESCRIBERS at a time.

  • If it’s just a duo, you’ve got one describer and one guesser.
  • In a team of 3 players, there are 2 describers and 1 guesser.
  • In a team of 4 or more players, there are 2 describers and the rest are guessers.

For advanced players, they may choose to have only one describer per turn, regardless of the team size. This decision should be made at the beginning of the game.

So, here’s how the game works: when we start, I just have to flip the timer. Then, the describers on each team will take turns picking a card and describing the thing written next to the same colored square as our playing piece.

Since our playing piece is on the light blue segment at the start, on our first turn we’ll describe the things written next to the light blue square on each card.

If one of us shouts out the correct answer, the describers quickly move on to the next card and describe the thing written next to the same colored square as before. Our goal is to describe as many things as possible before the timer runs out.

So, here’s the deal: when that timer runs out, it’s a wrap for your turn. The folks called DESCRIBERS, well, they gotta tally up the cards that were actually guessed right, and then they can move their game piece. How far? Well, that depends on how many cards they got right. And then, it’s time for the next team to step up and keep the fun going, all nice and clockwise.

But, hold on a sec! Those DESCRIBERS, they gotta follow some rules when it comes to dishing out those descriptions. Yep, those DESCRIPTION RULES are a big deal. If they mess up and break one of those rules, their turn is over. Oof! Tough break. They still get points for the cards that were guessed right, though. Gotta take what you can get, right?

Let’s Finish the Game!

When we reach the last part of the board called the FINISH segment, that’s when the game comes to an end. The team that lands on or goes beyond this segment first is the winner!
