How to play Amul Official Rules

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to the Amul Game

Are you ready to dive into a thrilling adventure like no other? Get ready to have your mind blown as I introduce you to the amazing Amul Game. Get your game face on and let me walk you through the rules of this mind-bending experience.

Objective

The objective of the Amul Game is simple: to be the player with the highest score at the end of the game. But don’t be fooled by its simplicity; this game will challenge your strategic thinking and decision-making skills like never before.

Setup

The game consists of a game board, three decks of cards (Action Cards, Landmark Cards, and Bonus Cards), and scoring tokens for each player. The game board is divided into different regions, each with its own unique set of landmarks. Each player is given a small starting bonus of scoring tokens.

Gameplay

On their turn, each player has two choices: to draw a card from one of the card decks or to play a card from their hand. Action Cards can be used to help you gain an advantage, Landmark Cards are used to claim landmarks on the game board, and Bonus Cards give you special powers.

When playing a Landmark Card, you must place it on an unclaimed landmark on the game board. Claiming landmarks will earn you points and give you control over that region. However, be careful, as other players can challenge your claim by playing a higher-value Landmark Card.

As the game progresses, you will need to carefully manage your cards and make strategic decisions to outwit your opponents. You must think ahead, anticipate their moves, and strike when the time is right.

Scoring

Scoring in the Amul Game is based on the landmarks you have claimed. Each landmark has a different point value, and the player with the most control over a region will earn bonus points. At the end of the game, your scoring tokens will be tallied, and the player with the highest score will be declared the winner.

Are You Ready for the Challenge?

The Amul Game is not for the faint of heart. It is a game that requires cunning, strategy, and a bit of luck. So gather your friends, roll the dice, and let the games begin. The adventure awaits!

Let me tell you about the game of Amul. It’s a game where you get to be a merchant and compete with others for wealth and prestige. Sounds exciting, right?

Here’s how it works. Each round, you have a hand of cards. You and the other players simultaneously choose one card from your hand and place it in the market. Then, you can pick a card from the market to add to your hand. It’s like a secret trade!

Now, once everyone has picked a card, it’s time to play. Each player must choose a card from their hand and play it in their personal play area. But here’s the tricky part – not all cards are the same. Some cards score points when played on the table, but others should be saved for later.

Let’s Talk About the Pieces

In the game, you will find a total of 146 Market cards, 16 Palace cards, and 9 Bazaar cards. There is also 1 Starting Player card, 1 First Pick card, and 1 Round Tracker card. Along with these, you will receive 8 Round Summary cards, 1 Game Board, 1 Scoring Pad, and 1 Card Reference. To help you navigate the game, there is a Rulebook included as well.

Let’s take a closer look at the card details. The Market cards, as the name suggests, are the cards that will be available for purchase in the game’s market. The Palace cards represent different palaces that you can build. And the Bazaar cards offer special abilities and advantages to enhance your gameplay.

As I mentioned earlier, the Starting Player card determines who goes first, and the First Pick card is used to determine the turn order each round. The Round Tracker card helps keep track of the current round, while the Round Summary cards provide a handy reference for each round’s rules and goals.

The Game Board is where all the action takes place. It’s where you’ll place your cards and move your pieces. The Scoring Pad is used to keep track of each player’s score throughout the game. And the Card Reference is a guide that provides quick explanations and reminders for each card in the game.

Lastly, we have the Rulebook. This is your ultimate guide to playing the game. It will explain all the rules and mechanics, and help you understand how to strategize and make the most of your cards. Make sure to read it thoroughly before you start playing.

So there you have it – a breakdown of all the components included in the game. I hope this overview gives you a good understanding of what to expect and gets you excited to start playing!

Getting Started

Here’s what you need to do to set up the game:

  1. Prepare the cards based on how many players there are: Look for a small blue circle in the bottom right corner of each PMOe, Bazaar, and Market card. This circle shows the minimum number of players needed to use the card. Any cards that aren’t needed can be put back in the box.

Okay, let’s get started. I’m going to show you step by step how to set up the Palace game.

First, you’ll need to get the Palace cards ready. Take all the Palace cards and place them faceup next to the Palace side of the Game Board.

Now that the Palace cards are set up, you’re ready to play! Easy, right?

#image.jpg

#image.jpg

Let me show you how to set up the Bazaar. It’s pretty easy!

First, we need to place each Bazaar card faceup next to the Bazaar side of the Game Board. There are three Bazaar cards, so make sure they are all visible.

It’s important to keep the Bazaar cards near the Game Board. This way, everyone can easily see them and access them during the game.

Setting up the Bazaar is a simple task, but it’s an essential part of playing the game. By having the Bazaar cards clearly displayed, it will be easier for you and your fellow players to understand the game mechanics and make strategic decisions.

So, remember to place the three Bazaar cards faceup next to the Bazaar side of the Game Board before you start playing. Have fun!

#image.jpg

Okay, let’s get started with setting up the game!

First, we need to shuffle the Market cards. Just take the cards and mix them up, making sure they’re facedown. Then, place the deck near the Market side of the Game Board.

Next, each player gets 5 Market cards for their starting hand. Make sure to deal them facedown, so no one can see what cards they have. Remember, keep your own cards hidden from the other players.

Now, give each player a Round Summary card. This card will help you keep track of your progress.

Time to choose a Starting Player! You can do this randomly, maybe by picking a card or rolling a dice. Whoever is the Starting Player gets a few special cards: the Starting Player card, the First Pick card, and the Round Tracker card. Put the Starting Player card on top of the Round Tracker card, so only the number one is showing.

8 Note: Before we begin, make sure each player has their personal play area on the table in front of them. This is where they will play a card in each round.

Keep in mind that any cards played into the play area should always be visible to everyone.

Now, let’s get started!

How to Play

We will play the game for 9 rounds. Once we reach the 9th round, we will score the cards and the player with the most Prestige points will be the winner.

Each round consists of three phases: replenish, planning, and upkeep.

Replenish Phase

Deal

When we start a new round, the person who goes first gives each player 1 card from the Market deck. This happens at the beginning of every round, even the very first one.

Don’t forget: Each player should have 6 Market cards in their hand by now.

Stocking the shop

We put cards from the Market deck face-up on the table, next to the Market side of the Game Board. The number of cards we put out depends on how many people are playing:

  • For 3 players: each player gets 1 card
  • For 4 players: each player gets 2 cards
  • For 5 to 8 players: each player gets 3 cards

Note: Remember that the Palace and the Bazaar will never be filled.

After we’ve filled the Market, it’s time to move on to the planning phase.

Planning Phase

Offer

During this phase, you and the other players will each choose one Market card from your hand. Take your chosen card and place it facedown in the Market. Once everyone has done this, we’ll turn all the cards faceup.

Pick

Let’s start by taking turns to choose cards from the Market. The person with the First Pick card goes first, and then we go clockwise.

Remember: Once we’ve played as many rounds as there are players, those with Military Prowess can choose their cards first.

Keep in mind: We can’t choose cards from the Palace or the Bazaar.

Don’t forget: After each player has picked a card, we should all have 6 Market cards in our hands again.

Show What You’ve Got

When playing the game, I have a Market card in my hand. At the same time, you also have a Market card in your hand. We both have to choose one of our Market cards and put it down face down in our own play area. This means that I don’t know what card you chose and you don’t know what card I chose. It’s a secret!

Note: Make sure you pick a card with a play area icon on the left side.

When we’re all ready, let’s reveal our cards by showing them faceup in our play area. Keep in mind that if your card has a play area icon #image.jpg, you get to keep it in your play area. However, if your card only has a hand icon #image.jpg, you have to remove it from the game right away. Some Market cards have both symbols, so you can hold onto them in your play area.

Just a reminder: You still have other cards in your hand that you can use later. Keep them in mind for future planning!

A helpful tip: Keep an eye on what cards other players are using. Some cards are scored based on what’s in players’ hands, so some information will remain hidden until the end of the game.

Don’t forget: Each player should have 5 Market cards in their hand and the same number of cards in their play area as rounds of play.

Once all players have revealed a card, it’s time for the Upkeep phase.

Upkeep Phase

Resolve Immediate Effects

If any cards with immediate effects were played this round, we’ll handle them in clockwise order, starting with the player who has the First Pick card.

Important: Once you’ve played a number of rounds equal to the number of players, it’s time for those of us with Military Prowess to take action.

Your card’s effect will determine whether you can snatch a card from the Palace, the Bazaar, or the Market. Check out the Card Reference booklet for all the juicy details. Remember, effects are the only way to get your hands on Palace and Bazaar cards.

Note: The Market cards listed below will have an immediate impact on the game when played: Arab Merchant, Mongol Merchant, Contract, Scavenger, and Mughal Warlord.

Clear Out the Market

Get rid of any cards that are still present in the Market. They will be completely removed from the game.

#image.jpg

Pass the First Pick Card

Hey, it’s your turn to pass the First Pick card to the player sitting next to you. Just hand it over in the direction that everyone is going.

Note: The Starting Player card doesn’t move, it stays where it is.

Progress

Now it’s time for the Starting Player to slide the Round Tracker card and update the round number to the next one.

Great job! You’re all set to kick off a brand new round with the Replenish phase.

Gaining Strength through Warfare

Once I’ve played enough rounds and the Starting Player card comes back to me, an intriguing dynamic called Military Prowess kicks in. This changes the way player order is determined, adding an electrifying twist to the game:

Remember: If you have Military Prowess, you get to choose a card from the Market first. You’ll need to resolve any immediate effects before players without Military Prowess take their turn. Look for the symbols on the First Pick card to help you remember this rule.

When you play cards in your play area, the total number of Military Prowess symbols on those cards determines your Military Prowess. It’s like a measure of how strong your military forces are.

Let me give you an example. Linda played some cards into her play area, and those cards had Military Prowess symbols on them. Now, Linda’s Military Prowess is 3.

When we start playing, it’s important to determine who goes first. We do this by looking at our Military Prowess. The player with the highest Military Prowess gets the first turn. If there is a tie, we use the Pick Order symbols to break it. The player with the symbol that comes first in alphabetical order goes first.

Let me give you an example to help you understand:

Lukas and Linda are playing. Lukas has played some cards and now has 3 Military Prowess. Lukas’s best Pick Order symbol is #image.jpg. Linda also has 3 Military Prowess, but her best symbol is #image.jpg. Since Lukas’s symbol comes before Linda’s in alphabetical order, he gets to go first.

#image.jpg

Important information: Once all players who possess Military Prowess have made their card selections, those individuals who do not have Military Prowess will select their cards in the regular order of play. The First Pick card will continue to be passed from player to player, establishing the turn order for those without Military Prowess.

This same adjusted player order also applies to selecting cards from the Market during the Planning Phase and handling any immediate effects during the Upkeep Phase.

The Game’s Conclusion

Once we’ve finished playing 9 rounds, it’s time to wrap things up. At this point, it’s important for all players to go through their hands and remove any cards that don’t have a hand icon on the left side. These cards are taken out of the game completely. The remaining cards in each player’s hand are then placed in their play area.

Just a reminder: Now, each player will typically have 5 #image.jpg cards and 9 #image.jpg cards (plus any extra cards they might have gained from resolving various effects) in their play area.

Note: Remember, some cards have different scores. Look at the Card Reference booklet to see how they’re scored.

First, choose someone to be the bookkeeper. They’ll keep track of the scores on the Scoring Pad.

Market and Palace Cards

When the bookkeeper says a card color, you’ll score all the cards of that color in your play area.

Bazaar Cards

Hey there! Let’s talk about something really cool – Bazaar Cards! When you think about it, Bazaar Cards are like magical pieces of paper. They have this amazing ability to take you on an adventure, unlocking a world of fun and excitement.

You might be wondering, “What exactly are Bazaar Cards?” Well, my friend, they are these little cards that you can collect and trade with others. Each card is like a little treasure, with its own unique design and value. Some cards might be really rare and difficult to find, while others might be more common. It’s all part of the thrill!

Now, imagine this: You walk into a bazaar, and there are so many different cards to choose from. It’s like being in a treasure trove! You see cards with pictures of amazing creatures, like dragons, unicorns, and griffins. Then there are cards with pictures of places, like ancient cities or tropical islands. And let’s not forget about the cards with pictures of famous people, like athletes, musicians, or even superheroes!

The possibilities are endless! With each new card, you can dive into a whole new world of imagination and wonder. You can build your own collection and create stories and adventures based on the cards you have. You can even trade with your friends to expand your collection and discover even more amazing cards.

But here’s the thing – collecting Bazaar Cards is not just about having a bunch of pretty pictures. It’s about the joy of discovery, the excitement of the hunt, and the thrill of connecting with others who share your love for these magical cards. It’s about the friendships you make and the memories you create along the way.

So, my friend, if you’re looking for a way to spark your imagination and embark on an incredible journey, look no further than Bazaar Cards. They are your ticket to a world of adventure, creativity, and endless fun. Start collecting today and let the magic unfold!

When the bookkeeper says the names of the Bazaar cards, I score all the Bazaar cards I have in front of me.

Who has the most?

When the bookkeeper calls out a category, I count how many symbols for that category are on my cards.

There are two different categories we score. If I have the most Arab symbols #image.jpg, or the most Mongol symbols #image.jpg, I get points like this:

  • 1st place: 8 points
  • 2nd place: 4 points
  • 3rd place: 2 points

If multiple players have the same number of symbols and tie for a place, we get the points for the lowest place we share.

In this game, the player who has the most Prestige points comes out as the ultimate winner. But what do we mean by Prestige points? Well, it’s simple. Throughout the game, you’ll earn these points by accomplishing various tasks and achieving certain goals. The more Prestige points you have, the better your chances of winning.

But what happens if there’s a tie? Don’t worry, we’ve got that covered too. In the event of a tie, the player with higher Military Prowess will take the crown. So, it’s not just about Prestige points, but also about showing your prowess on the battlefield.

Now, let’s talk about a fun game variant called Tea. It adds an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay. So, if you’re looking for a new challenge, you’ll love this variant. It’s all about strategy, cunning moves, and outwitting your opponents. Get ready for a thrilling experience!

Remember, the key to a successful game lies in understanding the rules, strategizing your moves, and making the most of every opportunity. By following these tips and tricks, you’ll be on your way to victory in no time. So, gather your friends, set up the board, and let the games begin!

Note: Hey there! When we play the regular game of Amul, all the cards are dealt by the end of the game. It’s not left to chance – skilled players can strategize knowing which cards will be available for specific combinations, unless someone else takes them. Every card is in play!

If you want to add more unpredictability and excitement to your gameplay, you can try a variant called Tea. The setup is the same, but you add Tea cards to the Market deck and introduce a Tea Trader card in the Bazaar.

The number of Tea cards added should be the same as the number of players, but you can mix it up and try different amounts if you like.

Reminder: When you reach the 9th round, make sure there are still some Market cards left in the deck. The number of remaining cards should be equal to the number of Tea cards you added.
