When I’m getting ready for the final round, I take the exhibition board and put it over the Test on Student and Drink Potion action spaces. Those spaces get replaced by the Exhibit Potion action space. Then, I pick a card from the card reader.

I have to declare my Exhibit Potion actions along with the other actions I choose that turn. I can only do as many Exhibit Potion actions as the number shown on the board. In a four-player game, I can do up to three actions, and in a two- or three-player game, I can do up to four.

The Exhibit Potion action is the last one to be resolved, after I’m done with the Publish Theory action. Each cube I use for this action is worth 1 action.

When it’s my turn to exhibit a potion, I take one of my cubes from the action space and put it on one of the six potions that are shown on the exhibition board. This is the potion I promise to exhibit. (I can’t choose a potion that I’ve already successfully exhibited. And nobody cares about toad soup, so it’s not even on the board).

Once you have the ingredients ready, move over to the card reader and give it a tap. This will allow you to scan the ingredients and input them into the system.

However, keep in mind that the results you get might not always be what you expect. If that’s the case, don’t worry. On the other hand, if you happen to be the first player to successfully exhibit a particular potion, congratulations! It doesn’t matter if the seals are original publications or endorsements. And guess what? It doesn’t matter if they’re starred or unstarred either because that information is secret. But hey, if we’re playing the master variant, we shouldn’t count seals on theories with conflict tokens.

Now, let’s talk about those unused cubes!

Sometimes, things don’t go according to plan in the game. I may need to decline certain actions and move cubes to the unused cubes space. At the end of the round, if I have any pairs of cubes left, I can draw 1 favor card for each pair. (However, having an unpaired cube won’t give me any benefit).

I can then take back all of my unused cubes. I should have the complete set now, unless I took a Drink Potion action and ended up in the hospital.

In the Hospital

When the empty space for unused cubes is available, you can transfer any cubes from the hospital to that space. These cubes will be considered as unused cubes when the next round ends.

Brand-New Explorer

Before we start, let’s make sure we’ve got everything set up. First, we need to remove the old adventurer tile if it’s still there. Then, we’ll place the next adventurer tile on the adventurer space. If this reveals a conference, don’t worry. The conference will happen at the end of the next round. Just set the conference tile on the conference space, right after the Drink Potion action space.

Whether there’s a conference or not, it’s time to turn the top adventurer tile face up. This way, we’ll always know which adventurer is coming to town one round in advance. It’s like getting a sneak peek!

But if you didn’t set it up properly, make sure to fix it now. These conferences occur right after we’ve resolved the Drink Potion action, but before we move on to the top alchemist award and other end-of-round matters.

Here’s the thing – if you’ve published enough research papers and earned enough endorsements, you’ll gain one reputation point at the conference. It’s a chance to show off your accomplishments. However, if you haven’t met the requirements, you’ll actually lose reputation points, and the number of seals you have on the theory board will determine how many points you lose. Just remember, we don’t count seals on theories with conflict tokens when calculating the losses.

Arriving at the conference with nothing to brag about can be quite embarrassing. We’ve all been there, desperately rushing to the publisher’s office to submit our papers on time.

Introducing Exciting New Artifact Cards

After the conference ends, a fresh batch of artifacts makes its debut. I’ll clear any remaining artifacts from the board and introduce three new ones – either after the first conference or after the second one.

Now, let’s shift our focus to the highly anticipated top alchemist award and tie up other loose ends from this round.

Here’s what we need to do to prepare for the next round:

First, I’ll remove any ingredient cards still left in the ingredients row. Then, I’ll deal 5 new ingredients to fill up the row. If the deck of cards runs out at any point, including during setup, I’ll simply shuffle the discarded cards to form a new deck.

Next, I’ll remove all the order markers from the order spaces, except for the ones placed on the paralysis space during this round.

Lastly, we need to pass the starting player marker to the player on the left, unless their order marker is stuck on the paralysis space.

The Exciting Conclusion

Our thrilling journey consists of six epic rounds. As we enter the final round, our last brave adventurer will join the Sell Potions action space. (Remember, out of our six adventurers, we randomly sent one back to the box, therefore there was no adventurer in the first round).

Showcasing Our Talents

Usually, we as alchemists aim to dazzle one another with our incredible talents. However, from time to time, it can be quite satisfying to put on a display and showcase our skills to the entire audience.

When I’m getting ready for the final round, I take the exhibition board and put it over the Test on Student and Drink Potion action spaces. Those spaces get replaced by the Exhibit Potion action space. Then, I pick a card from the card reader.

I have to declare my Exhibit Potion actions along with the other actions I choose that turn. I can only do as many Exhibit Potion actions as the number shown on the board. In a four-player game, I can do up to three actions, and in a two- or three-player game, I can do up to four.

The Exhibit Potion action is the last one to be resolved, after I’m done with the Publish Theory action. Each cube I use for this action is worth 1 action.

When it’s my turn to exhibit a potion, I take one of my cubes from the action space and put it on one of the six potions that are shown on the exhibition board. This is the potion I promise to exhibit. (I can’t choose a potion that I’ve already successfully exhibited. And nobody cares about toad soup, so it’s not even on the board).

To start your experiment, gather the necessary ingredients and head to your laboratory. You’ll want to prepare two ingredients, just like you normally would for any experiment. Once you have the ingredients ready, move over to the card reader and give it a tap. This will allow you to scan the ingredients and input them into the system.

Once you’ve completed the scanning process, you can discard the ingredients as you would normally do after an experiment. However, keep in mind that the results you get might not always be what you expect. If that’s the case, don’t worry. Simply move your cube to the designated space and deduct one point from your reputation. It’s a small setback, but it’s all part of the learning process.

On the other hand, if you happen to be the first player to successfully exhibit a particular potion, congratulations! You’ll earn yourself a point of reputation, and you can proudly place your cube on the corresponding space. This is a great achievement and shows that you have a deep understanding of potion-making.

But what if you’re not the first one to exhibit a potion? Don’t worry, there’s still a chance for you to earn some recognition. If you successfully exhibit a potion, even if you’re not the first, you can place your cube on one of the other spaces below. While you won’t earn any points for mixing that particular potion, you can still try your hand at mixing its opposite. So don’t give up, keep going!

In addition to showcasing potions, you can also demonstrate mastery of a specific color. How? Well, if you manage to successfully exhibit two different signs of the same color during the exhibition, you’ve achieved mastery. This earns you a bonus of 2 points of reputation. And the best part? More than one player can score this bonus, so it’s not limited to just one person. It’s a great way to show off your expertise and impress your fellow potion-makers.

You earn and lose Reputation points throughout the game. Some artifacts can give you bonus reputation, while your position on the scoring track can determine how much reputation you lose.

At the end of the game, you score Victory points. Reputation bonuses and penalties don’t apply to them. Most victory points are positive, but you may lose points when the real identities of the ingredients are revealed.

In the end, calculate your victory points as follows:

When you play the game, each reputation point you earn translates into a victory point. So, let’s say you finish the game with 16 reputation points; well, you start the final scoring with 16 victory points too.

After accounting for that, it’s time to determine the victory points you get from the artifacts you’ve collected.

Note: When a player possesses the Magic Mirror, it is important for them to calculate the points for the Magic Mirror before considering other artifacts and grants.

If a player has the Wisdom Idol, they should not score it until the Big Revelation occurs.

• Starred seal: you lose 4 points.
• Unstarred seal, not properly hedged: you lose 4 points.
• Unstarred seal, properly hedged: doesn’t affect your points.

How can you know if the unstarred seal is “properly” hedged? Just look at the incorrect parts of the theory. If there’s only one wrong part, then seals hedged against that color are considered properly hedged, and seals hedged against a different color are not properly hedged. If there’s more than one wrong part, then none of the seals can be properly hedged.

Just so you know, in this game, you’ll lose victory points, not reputation points. No need to worry about losing an extra 2 reputation if you’re in the blue zone. The red, green, and blue zones on the scoring track don’t mean anything when it comes to final scoring.

When we reach the end of the game, conflict tokens become irrelevant. The seals will score positive or negative points, regardless of the conflict tokens. (If you’re playing the apprentice variant, you don’t even use conflict tokens).
