Fire in the Library Glossary Lexicon

Welcome to the Fire in the Library Glossary Lexicon! Here, we’ll explore some important terms that will help you better understand the world of fire safety and prevention.

Fire Safety: Fire safety is all about taking precautions to prevent fire and knowing what to do in case of a fire emergency. It includes measures such as installing smoke detectors, creating an escape plan, and having fire extinguishers readily available. Fire Prevention: Fire prevention refers to the actions taken to reduce the risk of fire. This includes practices like proper storage and handling of flammable materials, regular maintenance of electrical systems, and educating people about fire safety. Smoke Detector: A smoke detector is a device that senses smoke in the air. When it detects smoke, it emits a loud alarm to alert people in a building about a potential fire. Smoke detectors are crucial for early detection of fires, giving people more time to evacuate. Escape Plan: An escape plan is a plan that outlines the actions one should take in the event of a fire emergency. It includes identifying escape routes, determining an assembly point outside the building, and practicing the plan with family or colleagues. Fire Extinguisher: A fire extinguisher is a portable device that can be used to put out small fires. It contains a chemical agent that can extinguish different types of fires, such as those caused by combustible materials, flammable liquids, or electrical equipment. Flammable Material: Flammable materials are substances that can easily catch fire and burn. Examples include gasoline, propane, and certain types of fabric. It’s important to store and handle flammable materials properly to prevent fires. Electrical System: An electrical system refers to the wiring, fixtures, and devices that provide electricity to a building. Regular maintenance of the electrical system is crucial to prevent electrical fires, which can be caused by faulty wiring or overloaded circuits. Emergency Exit: An emergency exit is a designated exit route that is used to evacuate a building during an emergency, such as a fire. Emergency exits should be clearly marked and free from obstructions to ensure a safe and quick evacuation. Fire Drill: A fire drill is a practice exercise that simulates a fire emergency. It allows people to familiarize themselves with the escape plan, the location of emergency exits, and the proper response in case of a fire. Fire drills are conducted regularly in schools, workplaces, and other public buildings. Fire Hazard: A fire hazard is anything that increases the risk of a fire occurring or spreading. Examples include flammable materials, faulty electrical wiring, and blocked emergency exits. Identifying and mitigating fire hazards is a crucial part of fire safety and prevention.

Remember, fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. By understanding these important terms and taking necessary precautions, you can help keep yourself and others safe from the dangers of fire. Stay informed, stay prepared, and stay safe!

When I play the game, I place one card on each Turn Order Card, starting with the leftmost space.

In a single round, you can use multiple Amulets, but you can’t make any Turn Order Card go into Fire Spreading. If you have Fire Tokens that you can’t place, keep them on the Amulet card until the round ends.

If the game ends and you have a Book Token on your Turn Order Card, you score points for that book. If the Section of the Library where the book belongs has burned down, the Book Token is worth 10 points.

Axe

You can only use the Axe card if you’re not the Active Player. With the Axe card, you can return the Fire Token that would end the Active Player’s turn back to the Library Bag. You can also take the highest scoring Book Token and score it for yourself.

Hey there! It’s time for my turn as the Active Player. Just a quick heads up, I need to play the Axe card before we start burning any Sections of the Library. In other words, I have to use the Axe before we remove any Library Cards from the Library. Got it? Great!

Bucket

The Bucket card is a lifesaver when it comes to stopping the spread of fire. It works by taking a Fire Token out of the game temporarily. The Fire Token is actually grabbed from the Active Player’s Turn Order Card and put onto the Bucket card until the end of their turn. Pretty neat, huh?

After the Active Player finishes scoring, the Fire Token that was removed is returned to the Library Bag. It’s like giving the fire a little break before it’s time to go back in action.

Now, let’s talk about the Cloak card.

Hey, did you know that the Cloak card has a few nifty tricks up its sleeve? It won’t stop fires from spreading, but it does let you score some valuable points. When you use the Cloak to save a book, you get to earn Knowledge Points for that book. Plus, if you’re feeling particularly brave, you can even earn some Bravery Points too!

Now, here’s something cool. If you use the Cloak to save a book and there are no other Book Tokens left to burn on your Turn Order Card, the Library section with the lowest Burn Index Number goes up in flames. Talk about an intense choice!

Collector’s Edition

Fire in the Library Glossary Lexicon UltraFoodMess

Once I’ve scored, I get to choose one of the book tokens I saved this turn and place it on the Collector’s Edition card.

Then, I earn two points for each book token I saved this turn that has the same color as the token on the Collector’s Edition card, and this includes the points for the token that I placed on the card.

If I saved any book tokens that have the same color as the token on the Collector’s Edition card, the player who played the Collector’s Edition card also earns two extra points for each of those tokens saved by me.

Gloves

When I play the Gloves card, it’s like a magical shield that transforms all the spaces on my Turn Order Card into Safe Spaces for just one turn. I can still earn Bravery Points as if those spaces were risky, but the best part is that I won’t have to worry about any negative consequences on those spaces. It’s like a secret weapon that keeps me protected while I continue to make progress. The only catch is that I won’t get a Tool Card, unless I trigger Fire Spreading. It’s a trade-off, but sometimes safety is worth more than extra resources. So, when I have the Gloves card in hand, I can feel a sense of relief and confidence as I navigate through the game.

Knapsack

Once I score, I get to take one of the Book Tokens from my Turn Order Card and put it on the Knapsack card. Then, I draw a token from the Library Bag.

If the token I drew is a Book Token, I score both tokens. However, if it’s a Fire Token, the Section of the Library that matches the color of the Book Token on the Knapsack card gets burned.

Library Cart

When I use the Library Cart, I place the Book Tokens I’ve earned this turn on the card. These tokens stay on the Library Cart until the end of the Round. By doing this, I lower the chances of my opponents drawing Book Tokens.

Lockbox

After scoring, I choose one of the Book Tokens I saved this turn and put it on the Lockbox card. At the end of the game, I score this book token again.

If the Book Token and a completely burned Section of the Library have the same color, you get 10 points. If they don’t match, you just score normally. By using this Tool, you also decrease the number of books in your Library Bag. After you score, calculate your Bravery Points again. Then, draw a Tool from the Tool Deck. The Shovel is a Tool that lets the Active Player draw two tokens instead of one, twice per turn. The player gets to choose one of these tokens to place on their Turn Order Card. If the token not chosen is a Book token, it goes back into the Library Bag before the Active Player decides whether to draw again. If it’s a Fire Token, it stays on the Shovel card until the Active Player’s turn ends. This reduces the chances of drawing a Fire Token again. The Slingshot is another Tool that you can use.

If you don’t want a fire to spread, you can use the Slingshot card to move a Fire Token and the most valuable Book Token from your Turn Order Card to another player’s card.

If you’re the last player in the round, keep the tokens to the side until the round ends and then put them back in the Library Bag. The Slingshot doesn’t care about Bravery Points when deciding which Book Token to give to another player. If two books have the same value, you get to choose which one to give away.

Torch

With the Torch, you can draw three tokens instead of just one. After that, you can pick at least one token to place on your Turn Order Card. Remember, you can only keep the Book Tokens that fit on your card.

When you choose a Book Token, any other Book Tokens you have are returned to the Library Bag. But if the token you don’t choose is a Fire Token, it goes on the Torch card and stays there until the end of your turn. This makes it less likely for another Fire Token to be drawn.

The Language of the Game

Bravery

Points you earn based on the number below the last token you placed on your Turn Order Card. These numbers are found below Risky Spaces.

Knowledge

Points you earn based on the current value of the books in the corresponding Section of the Library.

Library

The Library is divided into four Sections: Fables (Purple), Geography (White), History (Black), and War (Yellow). These Sections make up the Library as a whole.

Risky Spaces

If there’s a Fire Icon in any of the Spaces on the Turn Order Card, it means trouble. When a player draws a Fire Token in a Risky Space, things really heat up – Fire Spreading is triggered. But if the Active Player manages to escape the Library with tokens in these Risky Spaces, they don’t just save the day, they also earn Bravery Points along with Knowledge Points from rescuing books.

Rounds

A round involves each player Choosing their Turn Order, taking a Turn, a Section of the Library catching fire, and every player discarding a Tool and getting a new one, if they want to.

The final round of the game might not be completed if a Section of the Library is completely destroyed and only the destroyed Library card, with a value of 10, remains.

Safe Spaces

Fire in the Library Glossary Lexicon UltraFoodMess

When I’m playing the game Fire in the Library, there are certain spaces on the Turn Order Card that don’t have a Fire Icon. These spaces are safe and I can draw a Fire Token without causing the fire to spread. So if I manage to escape the Library with tokens only in these safe spaces, I get a bonus. I get to take a Tool from the Tool Market, which can help me in the game!

My Turn

My turn begins when I receive the Library Bag and start saving books. It continues until I complete scoring or the fire spreads. It’s a race against time!
