All You Need to Know About Townsfolk
Hi there! Have you ever wondered who the people in a town are and how they contribute to its lively atmosphere? Well, I’m here to fill you in on all the fascinating details!
Let’s start by exploring the meaning of the word “townsfolk.” When you hear this term, it refers to the individuals who reside in a town. Just like you, they form a vital part of the community and play various roles that keep the town running smoothly. They are the ones who bring life and character to the streets, making the town a vibrant and bustling place to be.
But what roles do the townsfolk play, and why are they so important? Let’s dig deeper!
When you explore a town, you’ll come across individuals who fulfill different functions. One of the key roles is that of the local business owners. These are the passionate entrepreneurs who operate the diverse shops and establishments you see around town. They provide you with goods and services, making sure you have everything you need. Whether it’s the neighborhood bakery, the corner store, or the cozy bookstore, these businesses are the heart and soul of the town.
Alongside the business owners, there are the dedicated workers who keep the town running smoothly. These are the firefighters, police officers, healthcare professionals, and other essential workers who ensure the safety, well-being, and overall functioning of the community. They are always ready to lend a helping hand and are the unsung heroes who protect and serve.
Now, let’s talk about the creative souls who add beauty and inspiration to the town. Artists, musicians, and performers are the ones who bring life to galleries, theaters, and street corners. Their talent and creativity enhance the cultural fabric of the town, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who comes across their work. They’re the dreamers who make the town an exciting and vibrant place to explore.
Last but not least, we have the residents themselves. Each person contributes in their own unique way to the town’s vibrant tapestry. By being good neighbors, volunteering their time, and actively participating in community events, they foster a sense of belonging and togetherness. Not to mention, they make the town a welcoming place for both locals and visitors alike.
So, the next time you explore a town and cross paths with its townsfolk, remember the incredible roles they play in making the community thrive. From the diligent business owners to the inspiring artists and the caring neighbors, they all contribute to the town’s unique charm and atmosphere. These individuals are the true heart and soul of the town, and their presence is what makes it a wonderful place to be.
When I use the Avenger ability in the game, I can swap one of my opponent’s workers with one from the village. However, there are some rules I need to follow for this move to be legal. If my opponent has a black worker, I cannot swap it with a worker from the Armoury or Long House, because those buildings specifically require a grey or white worker.
Avenger – Crew Action
“When you kill an opponent’s Crew Member with the Forager ability, you have the power to make them lose another Crew Member as well.” It’s up to the targeted player to decide which Crew Member they want to discard, not the attacker.
Forager – A Skill of the Crew
“When I take Provisions instead of Gold, I get an extra Provision in the Mill,” says the note. So, every time I choose Provisions over Gold, I gain an additional Provision in the Mill.
Gravedigger – Town Hall Action
Got a Hired Crew Member you want to trade out? No problem! You can swap 1 Hired Crew Member with a card from your hand. It’s just between you and your Crew.
Here’s how it works: You take the Crew Member you want to trade and put them back into your hand. Then, you can choose a different Crew Member from your hand to hire. And the best part? It won’t cost you a thing!
Mercenary – Town Hall Action
“Hey there! When I attack other players in this game, I have a special action called the Town Hall Action. It’s pretty cool. So, when I use this action, all the players I attack have to give me either 1 Silver or 1 Provision. But get this, it’s not up to me to decide which one they give me – it’s up to them! If they don’t have any Silver, then they have to give me Provisions instead, and vice versa. And if they don’t have either Silver or Provisions, then nothing happens. Pretty interesting, right?”
The Sage’s Town Hall Action
“Hey there! Let’s shake things up and get those Offering Tiles moving! Here’s what we’re gonna do: I want you to take all 3 of those Offering Tiles and slide them right down to the bottom of the Stack. This way, we’ll clear out the current Tiles and make room for some fresh ones!
Listen up, because this is an important Town Hall Action:
“Let’s switch some cards with an opponent,” I say. I choose someone to swap with and let them know how many cards I’d like to exchange. We both pick our cards in secret and make the trade.
Phrases to understand:
“If Killed..”. – These actions only happen when the player who has Valkyrie kills someone. If the Avengers cause the death, these actions don’t happen.
“Pay 1 Less..”. – These actions might let you avoid paying any Silver, Gold, or Provisions when you take them. But they still count as legal moves.
Buildings in the Village
Welcome to the Gate House! When you visit this special place, you get to draw 2 cards from the Townsfolk Draw Pile. Remember, though, you can only have 8 cards in your hand. But don’t worry, this limit only applies at the end of your turn. If you have more than 8 cards at that point, you’ll need to discard some until you’re back to 8.
Town Hall – I can play 1 Hand Card. The cards I play go to the discard pile, and their actions happen right away. You can find the Town Hall action at the bottom right of each card.
Treasury is a card that allows me to make a trade. I can choose to give up one card from my hand in exchange for two Silver coins, or I can give up two cards to get one Gold coin. Whenever I use the Treasury, the cards I give up are placed in the Discard Pile. And I always take the Silver or Gold coins from the Main Supply. It’s a simple but effective way to acquire more valuable currency in the game.
Barracks – Get yourself a new crew member. When you hire a crew member, you’ll need to choose a card from your hand and pay the required amount of Silver indicated on the left side of the card. You’ll find this Silver in the Main Supply. Once you’ve hired a crew member, they’ll be placed faceup right in front of you. But remember, you can’t have more than 5 crew members at once. If you already have 5, you’ll need to let go of one crew member before you can hire a new one.
Note: If you want, you can actually hire more than one of the same crew member.
Armory – Spend 1 Iron and get 2 Armour, or spend 2 Silver and get 1 Armour. Pay the Iron or Silver to the Main Supply. You move your Score Marker up the Armoury track by 1 or 2 spaces. Be careful not to have more than 10 Armour.
The Mill is where you can get valuable resources like Provisions and Gold. These resources are taken from the Main Supply. When I use a Black Worker at the Mill, I gain 1 Provision. If I use a Grey Worker, I get 2 Provisions. But if I use a White Worker, I can choose to receive either 2 Provisions or 1 piece of Gold.
Silversmith – Get some Silver. This is taken from the Main Supply. A Black Worker gets 3 Silver. A Grey or White Worker gets 2 Silver.
Long House – This is where you have two choices:
- Give up 1 Livestock to get 2 Provisions – You can trade your Livestock with the Main Supply and get Provisions in return.
- Show the Chief what you have to offer – You can pay the required Plunder and/or Silver shown on the Offering Tile you want to show the Chief. The Offering Tile is then placed face down in front of you. A new Offering Tile is immediately revealed from the Offering Stack to fill the empty space. The Offering Tiles you collect will give you victory points at the end of the game.
