Card Reader on the Web

If you visit alchemists.czechgames.com, you can find a web-based version of the app. When you’re playing on the web, you choose cards manually.

The Gamemaster Board

If, for some reason, you want to play Alchemists without using an electronic device, one person can take on the role of the gamemaster and act as the card reader. The gamemaster can use the lid of the box to hide their gamemaster triangle from the other players.

The gamemaster shuffles the 8 tiles with the ingredients and secretly and randomly places them into the 8 slots. The gamemaster doesn’t need to worry about the actual alchemicals. The triangle explains what happens when any two ingredients are mixed.

When you play the game, I’ll be the one in charge of handling all the situations that require the card reader. So, let’s say you need to “scan” ingredient cards. Just pass them to me face down, and I’ll look up the potion they create. Then, I’ll give you the same answer that the card reader would give. Once that’s done, I can get rid of the ingredients by putting them in the discard pile.

If your phone’s battery dies and you still want to keep playing using the gamemaster triangle, don’t worry! I’ve got a solution for you. All you have to do is convert the four-letter game code into a list of 8 ingredients. It’s a simple algorithm, but maybe it’s best if I keep that information to myself. However, if you know the battery is running out, someone who isn’t playing can take on the role of gamemaster. They can peek at the answers in the app and set up the gamemaster triangle accordingly.
