Mastering the Art of Cable Car Riding
So you want to dive into the exhilarating world of cable car riding? Well, buckle up because I’m about to share with you some advanced rules that will take your cable car experience to new heights!
1. Timing is Everything
When it comes to boarding a cable car, timing is crucial. You need to be patient and observant, waiting for the perfect moment to hop on. The trick is to keep an eye on the cable car’s movements and anticipate its next stop. This way, you can position yourself strategically and ensure a smooth and hassle-free boarding process.
2. Mind the Gap
Before stepping onto the cable car, always remember to mind the gap between the platform and the car’s entrance. It may seem like common sense, but it’s surprisingly easy to overlook. One misstep, and you could find yourself in an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous situation. So be vigilant and watch your step!
3. Get a Firm Grip
Once you’re inside the cable car, make sure to grab onto one of the sturdy handrails or poles. This will help you maintain your balance during the ride and give you a sense of security. Trust me, you don’t want to be caught off guard and lose your footing while the cable car is in motion!
4. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
As the cable car glides through the air, it’s easy to get distracted by the breathtaking views. However, it’s essential to stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize – reaching your destination safely. Enjoy the scenery, by all means, but don’t let it completely steal your attention. Safety should always be your top priority!
5. Prepare for Departure
When your desired stop is approaching, make sure to signal your intention to disembark in advance. This can be done by moving towards the exit, gathering your belongings, and being mentally prepared to exit the cable car smoothly. Remember, timing is crucial here too. Wait for the cable car to come to a complete stop before making your move.
6. Exit Strategically
When it’s finally time to bid farewell to the cable car, do it gracefully and strategically. Step off the car with confidence and keep a safe distance from the platform’s edge. This will ensure a safe and orderly flow of passengers and prevent any accidents or congestion.
Cable car rides are meant to be shared, so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with your fellow passengers. You never know who you might meet or what interesting stories you might hear. Embrace the camaraderie, enjoy the shared experience, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
So, with these advanced rules in mind, you’re all set to embark on your cable car adventure. Remember, timing, balance, and safety are of the utmost importance. Now go out there and conquer those picturesque cable car rides like a pro!
As shareholders, we get to be part of something special: building the rail network for the individual cable car companies and investing in their shares. The more lines we complete, the more profit points the respective cable car company gains. It’s a race to have the most valuable shares and win the game!
But before we dive in, let’s set up and prepare for the game.
Setup
When we play with this expansion, we won’t own our own cable car companies. Instead, we’ll be buying shares of the 8 cable car companies available. It doesn’t matter how many of us are playing; we’ll always be using all 8 companies.
The setup and preparations are the same as in the basic “Cable Car” game, except for a few differences:
-
There are 32 cars, and each color represents a different cable car company. We need to position these cars on the map using the chart below. The numbers on the chart indicate where each car should be placed.
When you play the game, you begin with 8 scoring markers that are placed on the “0” space of the scoring track, no matter how many players there are.
Game Play
Now, when it’s my turn to play, I have two options:
- place track tiles (see basic rules)
- exchange one share, following the same rules as the basic “Cable Car” game.
When it’s my turn, I’ll put one of my shares at the bottom of the pile, making sure it’s face down. Then I can either choose the card that’s already face up or take the top card of the pile, which is face down. If I choose the face up card, I have to reveal the top card of the pile and use it as the new face up card.
Important: Before any cable car company’s score reaches or exceeds 25 points, shares can still be exchanged.
Scoring the Cable Car Companies
To score, we follow the same rules as in the basic game. However, this time, the points count as profit for the cable car companies instead of victory points for the players.
End of the Game
After all the tiles have been placed and we’ve scored all the companies, there is a final scoring.
Let’s calculate the value of each cable car company:
- Companies with the most profit: are worth 8 points each.
- Companies with the second most profit: are worth 7 points each, and so on.
- The company with the least profit: is only worth 1 point.
Remember to move the appropriate colored car along the scoring track to keep track of the values.
OK, so here’s how it works: after the game, we need to figure out who won. And how do we do that? Well, it all comes down to victory points (VP). Each player adds up their VP to determine their final score. Sounds simple enough, right?
But here’s the thing: the value of your shares in a company can really make a difference. If you have a 40% share, it’s worth 4 times the value of that company. If you have a 30% share, it’s worth 3 times the value. With a 20% share, you get 2 times the value, and a 10% share is worth 1 time the value.
Now, pay attention, because this is where it gets interesting. If your shares in a company add up to the highest percentage of that company held by any player, you get bonus points. And guess what? Those bonus points are equal to one-tenth of the company’s profit points, rounded down. So, the more shares you have and the higher the percentage, the more bonus points you’ll get.
But what happens if there’s a tie? Good question. If two players have the same percentage, they both get the full amount of bonus points. So, it’s a win-win situation for them, I guess.
Finally, we add up all the points and see who’s the big winner. The player with the highest total score takes home the victory. That’s what we’re all aiming for, right? So give it your best shot and may the best player win!
