Up and Down the River Card Game Rules
Hey there! Let’s dive into the exciting world of the Up and Down the River card game. Have you ever heard of it? If not, no worries! I’ll walk you through the rules step by step.
Here’s how it goes:
First off, I’m gonna grab a deck of cards. You’ll need one too if you want to play along. Each player will then be dealt 13 cards face-down. Remember, the goal of this game is to score as many points as possible.
Once everyone has their cards, we’ll start the first round by flipping over the top card from the deck. This card will determine the trump suit for that round.
Alright, now it’s time to go up and down the river. In the first round, each player will try to predict how many tricks they can win. A trick is a set of four cards, one from each player, played in clockwise order. You get one point for each trick you win.
I’ll go first and make my prediction. Let’s say I think I can win three tricks. Then it’s your turn! You can make your own prediction. Just remember, you can’t predict the same number of tricks as me.
Once everyone has made their predictions, we’ll start the actual playing of the hands. We’ll go through all 13 tricks, with each player playing one card per trick. The highest card of the leading suit wins the trick, unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump card wins.
After all the tricks have been played, we’ll tally up the scores. If you made your exact prediction, you’ll earn 10 bonus points. But be careful, if you’re off by even just one trick, you’ll lose 10 points!
We’ll keep playing multiple rounds, with the trump suit changing each time based on the top card of the deck. The player with the highest score at the end of all the rounds wins the game.
And that’s it! Now you know the rules of Up and Down the River card game. So grab a deck of cards and give it a try. I promise you’ll have a blast!
So here’s the deal: The objective of Up and Down the River is to avoid alcohol poisoning! Yeah, that’s right. We don’t want anyone getting sick here!
Now let’s talk players: You need at least 6 players to get this party started!
Next up, cards: You’ll need two full decks of 52 cards. That’s a lot of cards, but trust me, it’s all part of the fun!
Rank of the cards: Keep in mind that Kings are high, followed by Queens, Jacks, 10s, 9s, and so on, all the way down to Aces.
Oh, and don’t forget the beer: You’ll definitely need that to keep the party going!
So what type of game is this, you ask? Well, it’s a drinking card game, my friend. And it’s not for the faint of heart. This one’s strictly for adults.
Now let’s dive into the game:
- First things first, gather all the players and form a circle. Oh, and don’t forget to choose a dealer who will also be playing. Everyone’s in this together!
Here’s how you play this card game:
After the fourth card is flipped, I start moving ‘down the river’ by flipping a single card on top of the fourth one. If you have a card that matches the one I flipped, you give away four drinks to other players. You can distribute the drinks however you like: give four drinks to one player, two drinks to two players, or any other combination. The number of drinks you give is equal to the number of matching cards you have.
I continue to go down the river by dealing another card. If you have a matching card, you give away three drinks this time. This continues until you only have to give away one drink.
Once the game is over, I collect all the cards and thoroughly shuffle them.
Now it’s time for me to count from 1 to 13, starting with Ace as 1 and King as 13. As I flip over each card, I announce the number that corresponds to its rank. If the rank of the card matches the number I announced, everyone playing the game has to take that number of drinks.
I’m glad you’re here because I want to talk to you about a super fun card game called Sixes. It’s really easy to play, so let’s dive right in!
Here’s how it goes: You’ll need a deck of cards and some drinks (if you’re of legal drinking age, of course). First, shuffle the deck and deal out the cards to all the players. Keep dealing until there are no cards left. Each player should have the same number of cards.
Now, get ready to play! The goal of the game is to get as many points as possible. To do this, you want to get as close to 21 as you can without going over. Each card has a point value: number cards are worth their face value, face cards are worth 10, and aces are worth either 1 or 11, whichever you prefer.
Starting with the first player, each person takes turns deciding whether to take another card or to stick with what they have. If you decide to take another card and your total goes over 21, you’re out of the round. But don’t worry, you can still play in the next round!
Once everyone has taken their turn, it’s time to compare scores. The player closest to 21 without going over wins the round and gets a point. Keep playing rounds until everyone is tired of the game or tired of the drinks!
I hope you have a blast with Sixes. If you enjoy this game, be sure to check out our other drinking card game rules for Ride the Bus and King’s Cup. Cheers!
