Find a Partner
Find a Partner is a fun card game for 4 or more players. The object of the game is to choose a partner and work together to create the best poker hand.
Before starting, decide on the highest and lowest bid amounts and determine the ante.
Getting Started
The first dealer is randomly chosen and the dealer position rotates clockwise for each new round.
Each player puts their ante into the pot, and the dealer deals 5 cards to each player.
Card and Hand Rankings
The ranking of cards and hands follows standard poker rules. The Ace is the highest card, followed by King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. You can find a detailed hand ranking guide online.
Gameplay
So, here’s how the game begins. We all need to find partners, right? To do that, each of us will pick a card from our hand and show it to everyone at the same time. The player with the highest-ranked card gets to choose their partner first. Then, the player with the next highest-ranked card gets to choose their partner, and so on, until everyone has a partner. It’s like picking teams for a game!
Now that we have our partners, we need to sit next to each other and share our hands. The cards we showed earlier will be the first two cards in our hand. But we need three more cards to complete our hand. So, together, we’ll choose three cards from our remaining eight cards. Once we’ve made our decision, we’ll place the three chosen cards face down in front of us and set aside the remaining five cards face down as well.
When everyone has finished finalizing their hands, it’s time to start the betting rounds. Get ready for some exciting action!
When it’s time to start the first round of betting, everyone takes turns making their bids. We go around the table, starting with the person on the left of the dealer and going clockwise. Each player gets to decide how much they want to bet. We use the standard rules of draw poker for this.
If one player on a team decides to fold their hand and not play anymore, the other player can still continue to play with their hand.
There are three rounds of bidding in total. After the first round of bids, and then after the next two rounds, each team will reveal one more card from their hand at the same time. Once the final card is revealed, it’s time for the showdown to begin.
Showdown
Now it’s time for the big moment, the showdown. Once all five cards from each team’s hand are revealed, we see who has the best hand. The team with the highest-ranked hand wins the pot of money that everyone has bet. If both players stayed in the game until the end, they split the pot evenly between them. But if one player on a team folded during the game, the other player takes the whole pot for themselves.
