ONE WALL PADDLEBALL

There are so many different sports with rackets to choose from these days, but one wall paddleball is a sport that has become really popular lately. You can play this game with just two people, which is called singles, or with four people, which is called doubles. The goal is to hit the ball against the wall before it bounces twice.

GETTING READY

When it comes to one wall paddleball, I usually play it outdoors on a court that is 20 feet wide and 34 feet long. At one end of the court, there is a tall 16-foot wall. The short line is located 16 feet away from the wall, while the long line is positioned 34 feet away. Behind the short line, you’ll find the service line, which is 9 feet from the wall. The sidelines, on the other hand, mark the two sides of the court.

Let’s Play!

One wall paddleball can be played by two teams, either as singles or doubles. To determine which team serves first, a simple coin toss is conducted.

Serve It Right

In order for a serve to be considered legal, you must first bounce the ball and then hit it against the wall from the serving zone, which is the area between the short line and the service line. After hitting the wall, the ball should bounce back into the service area, which is the section between the short and long lines.

When it comes to singles tennis, I serve the ball first. If I mess up, I get one more chance. But if I mess up again, it’s your turn to serve. We keep going back and forth like that.

Now, in doubles, it’s a little different. The first player from my team serves the ball. And they keep serving until we mess up. Then it’s the second player from my team’s turn to serve. We’ll keep going like that until our team messes up again, and then it’s your team’s turn to serve.

Rallying

When it’s my turn to serve in a game, the other team has to hit the ball back to me. We take turns hitting the ball.

To hit the ball back, I have to hit it against the wall before it bounces twice.

If I’m playing doubles, there’s no specific order for hitting the ball. Either me or my teammate can hit it when it’s our turn.

Scoring

Only the team that’s serving can score points. Each time we hit the ball legally to the wall after the serve, we earn a point. So, every legal hit my team makes during a rally is a point for us. We keep scoring until we make a mistake.

Outs

An “out” happens when one of these things occur: I lose the serve or the other team earns a point. Those are the only ways to lose.

  • When I purposefully hit the opponent with the ball.
  • When I lose my own paddle.
  • When I illegally touch the ball during a rally.
  • When I miss the ball while serving.
  • When the ball bounces off the floor before it hits the wall.
  • When the ball goes off the sidelines or past the long line.

END OF GAME

The game ends when one of the teams manages to score the required number of points. Usually, this is 15, 21, or 25 points. Additionally, the game must be won by a 2-point margin. If there’s a tie, the game will continue until one team wins by two points.

Hey there! I’m a writer who loves to encourage people to play games and enjoy themselves. For three years, I organized pub crawls where I played drinking games with my guests. Games are simply a part of who I am, coming from a family that absolutely adores them.

But that’s not all! I’m also a huge fan of traveling and music, so much so that I’ve even started personal blogs about these two passions of mine.
