Welcome to Madrasso!
Hey there! I’m here to tell you all about Madrasso, a super cool card game for 4 players. In this game, you pair up with a teammate and try to score 777 or more points in 10 or more rounds. Exciting, right?
Let’s Get Started
First things first, we need to set up the game. To start, we choose a dealer at random. For each new round, the dealer position moves to the right. The dealer shuffles the deck of cards and deals 10 cards to each player. Here’s how it goes:
The first batch is 3 cards for each player, then 2 cards for each player. The dealer flips one of their cards faceup. After that, another batch of 3 cards is dealt, followed by 2 cards for each player. By the end, every player should have 10 cards facedown, except the dealer, who has 9 face-down cards and 1 face-up card.
When it’s time to determine the trump suit, the faceup card holds the power. The dealer keeps this card face up in front until it’s played. If you have the 7 of trumps, you can choose to exchange it for the faceup card, but make sure to do this before you play your first card to the trick.
Now, let’s talk about the ranking and values of the cards. The Ace is the highest, followed by 3, King, Horse, Jack, 6, 7, 5, 4, and 2 as the lowest. The trump suit outranks all the other suits. Some cards also have point values. In the order mentioned earlier, the values are 11 points for Ace, 10 points for 3, 4 points for King, 3 points for Horse, and 2 points for Jack. The rest of the cards have no point value.
Now that we know the basics, let’s dive into the gameplay.
Alright, let’s dive into the game! I’ll start by explaining how it all begins. The Player to the right of the dealer gets things rolling. They can lead with any card they want. As for the other players, they have to follow suit if they can. However, if they don’t have a card that matches the suit, they’re free to play any card they choose. Now, here’s the interesting part: the highest trump card wins the trick, if there is one. But if no trump cards are played, then it’s the highest card of the suit that was led that takes the trick. The player who wins the trick gets to collect it and becomes the leader for the next one.
Now, keep in mind, players aren’t allowed to signal or talk to each other about the cards they have in their hands. If someone makes a mistake and misplays a card, that ends the round, and the other team gets an additional 130 points. Oh, and there’s one more thing! The very last trick that’s won is worth an extra 10 points. So you definitely want to aim for that one!
When It’s Time to Keep Score and Claim Victory
Once a round comes to an end, it’s time to tally up the scores. Just a heads up, though, a team can’t win until all 10 rounds of play have been completed. So, it’s important to keep track of the scores throughout the game. Once all 10 rounds are done, then we’ll have ourselves a winner!
In the game, teams keep track of their scores by counting the cards they win in tricks. The last trick won is also taken into consideration. The scores for each team are added up over time.
The objective is for a team to reach 777 or more points after 10 rounds. If a team achieves this score, they are declared the winner. However, if neither team has reached this amount of points, additional rounds are played until the threshold is met.
A player has the option to declare that they have the required number of points after winning a trick in a round. If they choose to do so and their declaration is correct, they win the game. However, if the player is incorrect, the other team wins.
If both teams fail to declare and it is found that both have surpassed 777 points at the end of a round, the team with the higher score wins the game.
Another way to win the game is by winning all 10 tricks in a round. Simply collecting all the score cards is not enough; you must win every single trick to achieve victory this way.
