LETTER SLIDE
Hey there! Do you love word games? Well, I’ve got an exciting one for you called Letter Slide!
Here’s how it works: You and your friends will race against the clock to create four-letter words from cue cards that are shown on the play area. You’ll use letter tiles to quickly fill up your game boards and try to win the game.
SETUP
Okay, here’s what we need to do:
First, give each player a game board.
Next, shuffle all the cue cards and place them face down on the table.
Now it’s time to set up the tile pool. Pour out all the letter tiles on the table and spread them out so they’re easy to see and reach. Make sure none of the tiles are overlapping.
Put the timer in the center of the tile pool where everyone can see it.
Now, let’s start playing:
First, someone flips the top card from the deck and places it on the table. Make sure all players can see it.
Once the card is flipped, start the timer. Everyone has to quickly find and use the letter tiles to create as many four-letter words as they can. Each card will have cues that give you hints about the words you can make.
Remember, you can grab as many tiles as you need to form the words.

Hey there! Let’s dive into some word fun! I’ve got these cool word cards for you to play with. They each have two letters and two blanks to make a four-letter word. Some cards are missing the first two letters, and others are missing the last two. Take a look at the cards below and see if you can come up with some words. You might find words like “seen,” “burp,” “mode,” “bent,” “gait,” and “darn.”

So, here’s the deal. When the timer runs out, we gotta check those words you came up with to make sure they’re legit and spelled right.
If you managed to spell a word correctly, you get to grab a tile and put it in the right spot on your board. But if there’s no spot for that letter, both tiles go back into the pool.
Now, if you happened to mess up and spell a word wrong, sorry, but both tiles go back to the pool.
Oh yeah, and just so you know, you can’t go making up new words. Only real words count in this game.
And get this – the player with the most correctly spelled word each round gets to flip the next card and start a whole new round. How cool is that?
YOUNGER PLAYER VARIANT
Now, for you younger ones, we got a couple of options to make things more fun.
- When you’re playing the game with younger players who are just starting to learn how to form four-letter words, it’s a good idea to remove the timer. This way, they won’t feel rushed or pressured.
- If you want to make the game easier for kids who are still learning to sound out words, you can separate the cards into two decks. One deck should have the first two letters missing, and the other deck should have the last two letters missing. This way, they can focus on figuring out the missing letters and building their words.
Here’s a revised version of the text. Please note that the HTML markup has been retained, and the prose has been rewritten to fit a 5th-grade reading level, while maintaining an engaging and conversational tone.
For both options, if there’s enough space on their boards, let them place both of their letter tiles. This gives them more opportunities to fill the spaces.
SCORING
The player who covers all the spaces on their board with letter tiles first is the winner of the game!
END OF GAME
Once a player’s board is completely filled with tiles, the game is over. They can celebrate their victory!
