Welcome to Le Quatre Sept!
Le Quatre Sept is a fun card game played by 4 people. The objective of the game is for your team to be the first to score 31 or more points and win the game.
In this game, there will be two teams of two players each. You and your partner will sit across from each other at the table.
Getting Started
Before we begin, let’s set up the game. We need to modify the deck of cards by removing all the cards numbered 6 and lower. This will leave us with a deck of 32 cards.
We will randomly choose the first dealer, and then the dealer role will pass to the left at the start of each new round.
Once the deck is ready, the dealer will shuffle the cards and deal 8 cards to each player in a clockwise direction. It’s important to check your hand right away because if you happen to receive all four sevens in one deal, you automatically win the whole game!
Understanding the Cards
In the card game called Le Quatre Sept, the cards are ranked in a specific order. The highest card is 10, followed by 9, Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 8, and 7, which is the lowest. It is important to note that there are no trumps in this game.
Some cards in Le Quatre Sept have scoring values assigned to them. Aces are worth 1 point, while 10s, 9s, Kings, Queens, and Jacks are each worth 1/3 of a point. On the other hand, 8s and 7s have no value at all. Additionally, the last trick played in each round scores 1 point.
Each round of Le Quatre Sept has a total of 11 points. However, any fractional points are disregarded in the final scoring.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay in Le Quatre Sept is quite simple. Like any other trick-taking game, it involves leading and following tricks. The game begins with the player to the left of the dealer and proceeds clockwise from there.
During each trick, the first player leads by playing a card. All other players must then play a card of the same suit if they have one. If a player doesn’t have a card of the same suit, they are allowed to play any card from their hand.
When we’re playing a game, the person who plays the highest-ranked card of the same type as the first card played wins. And guess what? They get to play the next card as well.
Now, here’s something interesting. In each round, there’s a chance to score extra points. If one of the players has three of the highest-ranked cards of the same type and manages to win three consecutive rounds with them, their team scores an additional 11 points. The catch is, they have to declare their intention when playing the first of the three cards to the first round. It’s like a secret bonus that you have to reveal!
SCORING
Once all the rounds are done, we tally up our scores based on the cards we won. You see, we drop some of the points to even things out, and each team’s scores should always add up to 11. We keep track of the scores from each round, and when one team or both teams reach 31 points, the game is over.
The End of the Game
Once a team reaches a total of 31 points or more, the game comes to an end. If only one team reaches 31 points, they automatically win. However, if both teams exceed 31 points, the team with the higher total emerges as the victor. In the event of a tie, an additional round will be played to determine the ultimate winner.
