Welcome to English Stud!
English Stud is a fun and exciting card game where the objective is to create the best 5-card hand and win the pot. It’s a poker game that can be played by 5-6 players using a standard 52-card deck.
So, how exactly does the game work? Let me explain.
Getting Started
English Stud is a variation of the popular game Seven Card Stud Poker. This version is specifically designed for up to 6 players. In English Stud, the goal is to improve your hand by swapping out cards for better ones. It’s easy to learn and offers a fresh twist on the classic game.
The Deal and Betting
Once everyone is ready to play, the dealer will distribute 2 cards face down to each player, followed by 1 face-up card. This is called the “hole card” and is visible to all players. The player with the lowest up card must place a mandatory bet, known as the “bring-in.”
After the initial betting round, the dealer will distribute another face-up card to each player, followed by a second round of betting. This process will continue until each player has 4 face-up cards and 2 face-down cards.
Once all the cards have been dealt, there is one final round of betting. The player with the best 5-card hand at the end of the game wins the pot.
Your Strategy
As you play English Stud, it’s important to pay attention to the cards that are being dealt and the cards that other players are showing. This will give you valuable information about the strength of your hand and the hands of your opponents.
Consider which cards to swap out during the game to improve your hand. You’ll need to make strategic decisions based on the cards you have and the cards you believe your opponents have.
Remember, the goal is to have the best 5-card hand at the end of the game, so choose your card substitutions wisely.
Conclusion

Whether you’re a poker enthusiast or new to the world of card games, English Stud is sure to provide hours of entertainment. So gather your friends, place your bets, and let the game begin!
So, let’s talk about English Stud, a poker game that’s pretty similar to both Seven Card Stud and Five Card Stud (maybe you’ve heard of those?). If you’re not sure what I mean by all of this, don’t worry. I’ll explain the basics of poker to you, so you can follow along.
Hey there! So, here’s how things go in a game of poker. Before we start, the dealer hands each player two cards face-down (we call these the hole cards) and one card face-up. To decide who pays the first bet, we look at the face-up cards. The player with the lowest card has to pay up. Oh, and if two players have the same low card, we use the suit rankings to break the tie. If someone paid the bring-in bet, the first player to bet in the official round cannot just check. They have to make a bet. Now, the player with the highest card gets to start betting. But hey, if no one paid the bring-in, then the highest card player can just check instead of placing a bet. And if there’s a tie for the high card, the first player clockwise to the dealer starts the betting.
Next up is Fourth Street!
Okay, after the first round of betting, here comes another face-up card for each player! But hold on, before we do that, the dealer gets rid of the top card in the deck (we call this the burn card). It doesn’t count for anything, so don’t worry about it. Now, each player gets another card that everyone can see.
Hey there! Let me explain how the game works. Since there are fewer than five cards face up, you can’t make straights, flushes, or full houses just yet. We all get dealt our cards, and then we start betting again. The player with the best hand gets things going.
Fifth Street
Now we each have two cards face down and two cards face up. The dealer gives us a third card, but this time it’s face up for everyone to see. The player with the highest-ranking face-up card gets to start the next round of betting.
From here on out, all the bets we make will be in big bet increments.
Sixth Street
Just before the sixth card is handed out, you have a choice. You can swap a card in your hand. It’s up to you and the other players to decide. Starting from the left of the dealer, it’s done one at a time. You get to decide if you want to exchange a card in your hand. You can choose to get rid of a card that everyone can see or one that only you know. Either way, the dealer will give you a new one. Or, if you like your hand as it is, you can choose to keep it.
After the betting round, the last card that everyone can see is dealt to each player. This is called the “river.” Now another round of betting happens, just like before. The player with the best hand starts the betting this time around.
The Seventh Card
Right before the last card is dealt, you have the chance to switch out any card in your hand for a new one. Once everyone has had their turn to exchange or stay with their cards, the final card is dealt face-down. Then, there’s another round of betting, and it starts with the player who has the best hand based on the exposed cards.
Seven-card stud is pretty simple: it’s all about “two down, four up, one down.” This just refers to how the cards are dealt and in what order.
It’s Time for the Showdown!
After the dealing and betting are done, it’s time for the showdown. The player with the highest-ranking hand, following the standard Poker Hand Rankings, takes home the pot. If there are any tied hands, the pot is divided equally among the winners.
