Welcome to Aeon’s End!
In this thrilling game, we’ll be taking on the role of courageous survivors, fighting against an ancient invasion. After our world was devastated, we sought refuge in the underground city of Gravehold, where we have built a new life for ourselves. But there’s hope – we’ve discovered that the very power that destroyed us can now be used to aid us in our battle for survival. Are you ready to join me in this epic showdown and protect our beloved home from the approaching evil hordes?
The Game Setup
Setting Up as a Player
When we start setting up the game, the first thing we do is choose our player mat and a number token. The mat shows us what cards we get to start with and how to build our deck. We also get breaches, which are important for playing cards. We start with ten lives, and we can keep track of our lives using the life dial by turning it to thirty.
Next, we build the turn order deck. We have four player turn order cards and two nemesis turn cards. These cards will determine the order in which we take our turns. We also choose a nemesis to play against and place its mat next to ours. The nemesis also has a life dial, and we set it to the number shown on its mat. The deck of cards we’ll be using depends on how many players there are, and there are three levels of difficulty to choose from.
When you play a game with the nemesis mat, make sure to check the back for any additional instructions. Depending on which nemesis you’re playing against, there may be other cards you need to use. The nemesis mat will tell you exactly what to do with each card.
Setting Up the Supplies
The supply stacks are where you find cards you can get during the game. There are nine different types of cards you can get. You can either group the stacks randomly or choose the cards you want to use. Once a stack is empty, you can’t add more cards to it. Once you’ve set up the supply stacks, you’re ready to start playing the game.
Playing the Game
When it’s time to play the game, the turn order deck decides who goes first. This special deck determines the order in which we take our turns. At the start of every game and after each turn, we draw a card from the turn order deck. That card tells us who gets to play next. Then, we put that card on top of the discard pile. When the turn order deck is empty, we shuffle the discard pile and use it as a new deck.
Now, let’s talk about what happens during a player’s turn. There are three phases: the casting phase, the main phase, and the draw phase. In the casting phase, the player can cast any spells they have prepared into the opened breaches. Once the spells are cast, they go on top of the player’s discard pile. Then, the player follows the instructions on their spell card.
Once you cast your spells, it’s time for the main phase of your turn. In this phase, you can do whatever actions you choose, in any order you want. You have several options to choose from, such as discarding a card, activating a prepped effect, preparing a spell, opening a breach, focusing a breach, gaining a charge, gaining a card, or playing a gem or relic card.
After you’ve completed your chosen actions, it’s time for the draw phase. In this phase, you’ll put all the gems and relics you used during your turn into your discard pile. Then, you’ll refresh your hand by drawing enough cards to have five cards in your hand. Your turn ends here, and the next player’s turn begins, according to the turn order deck.
If my life drops to zero during the game, I get exhausted and I’m out of the game. It’s a bummer, but that’s how it goes.
THE GAME ENDS
The game can end for a few reasons. If the nemesis runs out of cards or minions, the game is over. If the nemesis runs out of life, the game is also over. In both cases, we win! But if none of us have any life left, or if Gravehold is toast, then we lose. Sometimes the nemesis has a specific condition that means instant defeat for us if it happens. It really depends on that nemesis!
