Ticket to Ride: London Game Rules
Welcome to the thrilling world of Ticket to Ride: London! In this game, you and your friends will compete to claim the title of the best London cabbie, as you race around the city to collect valuable tickets and connect iconic landmarks.
To begin, each player will receive a set of colored plastic buses, which they will use to mark their routes on the board. The board itself depicts the city of London, divided into various districts, with different colored routes connecting them. Your goal is to claim these routes by placing your buses on them.
At the start of the game, you’ll also receive a number of Destination Tickets. These tickets represent specific routes you need to complete in order to earn points. Each ticket will have two landmarks printed on it, and your job is to connect these landmarks by building routes between them. The longer the route, the more points you’ll earn.
On your turn, you have two options: you can either draw bus cards from the deck or claim a route. When you draw bus cards, you can choose from the face-up cards or draw blindly from the deck. The bus cards come in different colors, which correspond to the routes on the board. Collecting matching sets of cards will allow you to claim those routes.
When you claim a route, you must have the required number of bus cards in the matching color and enough buses to cover the length of the route. Once you’ve claimed a route, place your buses on the board, marking the route as yours. Keep in mind that some routes may already be claimed by other players, so strategic thinking is key.
As the game progresses, you’ll continue collecting Destination Tickets and claiming routes. Remember that you can only have a limited number of Destination Tickets in your hand, and you must keep at least one. Be careful not to take on too many routes that you can’t complete, as uncompleted routes will deduct points from your final score.
The game will end when a player only has two or fewer buses left in their supply. At this point, each player will have one final turn, and then it’s time to tally up the points. Points are awarded for every completed route on the board and for successfully connecting the landmarks on your Destination Tickets. The player with the most points wins the game and earns the title of the best London cabbie!
So, buckle up and get ready for an exciting journey through London. Can you navigate the streets, claim the most routes, and become the ultimate cabbie? The fate of London is in your hands, so grab your buses and start your engines!

Wow, the sounds of rock music are thumping through the bustling streets of London, accompanied by the sight of trendy young people strutting their stuff. As I ride the bus through this vibrant city, I can’t help but contemplate stepping off and embarking on an adventure of my own. Exploring London on a double-decker bus seems like an absolute blast!

The Goal of the Game
Let me tell you about this awesome game called “London Transit.” In this game, you have a few ways to win:
- You can claim a Route between two places on the board that are next to each other;
- You can complete a Continuous Path of Routes between two places listed on your Destination Ticket(s);
- You can even complete Districts by connecting all the places in that district.
Getting Started
To start the game, put the board map in the middle of the table. Each player gets a set of colored plastic Buses and a matching Scoring Marker. Put your Scoring Marker on the Start 1 space.
To start the game, we need to prepare the cards and get everything set up. Here’s what we’ll do:
First, let’s shuffle the Transportation cards and deal two cards to each player. Make sure everyone has their starting hand.
Next, take the remaining deck of Transportation cards and place it near the board. Flip the top five cards from the deck and lay them face up.
Now, here’s a special rule: if three out of the five face up cards are Bus cards, we need to do something. We’ll discard all five cards and flip five new ones face up to replace them. It’s important to keep an eye on those Bus cards!
Okay, now let’s shuffle the Destination Ticket cards and deal two cards to each player. Take a moment to look at your cards and decide which ones you want to keep. Remember, you have to keep at least one card, but you can choose to keep both if you like.
If you decide to keep only one card, put the returned card on the bottom of the Destination Ticket deck. Then, place this deck next to the board.
One last thing, keep your Destination Ticket cards a secret until the end of the game. It will make things more exciting!
Now that everything is ready, we can begin. Let the fun begin!
How to Play the Game
When it’s your turn to play, you have a few options to choose from. Let me break it down for you.
First, you can draw Transportation cards. This will give you more cards to use in the game. Just remember, you can only choose one action per turn.
The second option is to claim a Route. By doing this, you can claim a specific route on the board and earn points. The more routes you claim, the more points you can get.
The last option is to draw Destination Ticket cards. These cards will give you specific goals to achieve during the game. If you complete these goals, you can earn even more points.
Remember, the game goes in clockwise order, starting with the youngest player. Each player takes turns until the game ends.

Hey there! Let’s talk about transportation cards and how they work in the game. These cards come in different colors, just like the routes on the board. We have green, black, orange, pink, yellow, and blue cards. But we also have special Bus cards that are multicolored and act as wild cards. They can represent any color when claiming a route.
Now, you can have as many transportation cards as you want in your hand. There’s no limit to how many you can hold.
Here comes the fun part! This action allows you to draw two transportation cards. You have a couple of options for getting these cards. You can either take the top card from the deck, without knowing what it is (we call that a blind draw), or you can choose any one of the five face-up cards. If you take a face-up card, you need to immediately replace it with the top card from the deck.
Now, here’s an exception to keep in mind. If you decide to take a face-up Bus card as your first card, you won’t be able to take another card on that turn. And hey, remember, you can’t take a face-up Bus card as your second card either.
Lastly, if you notice that three of the five face-up cards are Bus cards at any time, something interesting happens. You’ll need to discard all five of those cards and then flip five new cards from the deck to replace them. Exciting, right?
Have you ever wondered what to do when the deck of Transportation cards runs out? Well, fret not! I have just the solution for you. When the deck is empty, all you have to do is shuffle the discarded cards and voila! You have a brand new deck ready to go.
Ready, Set, Claim!

You might be wondering how routes work in the game. Well, a route is simply a set of spaces that are the same color on the game board. These spaces are important because they connect two adjacent locations, allowing players to move around the board.
Some locations are connected by what we call double routes. These are two routes of the same length that connect the same locations. However, there’s a catch – a single player cannot claim both routes of a double route. It’s like a special rule that adds an extra layer of strategy to the game.
Now, let’s talk about how you can claim a route. To do this, you need to discard a number of cards from your hand that matches the number of spaces in the route. For example, if a route has four spaces, you need to discard four cards. Once you’ve done that, you can place a plastic bus on each of the spaces to show that you’ve claimed the route.
There’s something important to keep in mind when playing with two players. If one player claims one route of a double route, the other player cannot claim the other route. This adds an interesting dynamic to the game and forces players to think strategically.
Now, let’s talk about the types of cards you need to claim routes. Most routes require specific sets of cards. For example, if you want to claim a blue route, you need to discard blue transportation cards. However, there’s an exception – the grey routes. These can be claimed with a set of cards of any one color. So, keep an eye on your cards and plan your moves accordingly.
When playing the game, you have the power to take any available Route on the board, even if it’s not connected to one you’ve already claimed. However, keep in mind that you can only claim one Route per turn.
It’s important to note that if you don’t have enough plastic Ruses to cover each space on a specific Route, you won’t be able to claim that Route.
Once you’ve claimed a Route, you’ll immediately earn points based on the Route Scoring Table on the board. Make sure to move your Scoring Marker on the Scoring Track accordingly.
To claim a Yellow Route that is three spaces long, you can discard any of the following card sets:

Get Ready to Explore with Destination Ticket Cards
Hey there! Are you ready to embark on an exciting adventure across the country? Well, you’re in luck! I’ve got just the thing to help you kickstart your journey – destination ticket cards!
So, what exactly are these magical cards, you may wonder? Destination ticket cards are like your treasure maps, guiding you through the vast expanse of our beautiful nation. They provide you with a list of specific cities or regions that you must visit in order to earn points.
Imagine this – you start your journey in sunny Miami, Florida, and your first destination ticket card tells you to make your way all the way to the charming city of Seattle, Washington. Along the way, you might have to make stops in cities like Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Each completed route earns you points, and the longer the route, the more points you’ll earn!
Now, let me tell you a little secret. Each player gets to keep their destination ticket cards a secret throughout the game. This means that you have the power to plan your route in a way that maximizes your chances of success. But be careful, my friend, because you’ll lose points for any unfinished routes you may have!
But don’t worry, I’ve got a few tips to help you on your way. Firstly, it’s important to remember that longer routes can yield more points, but they can also be more challenging to complete. So, make sure to strike a balance between ambition and achievability!
Another thing to keep in mind is that some destination ticket cards may overlap, meaning that multiple routes can be completed using the same cities. So, don’t be afraid to strategize and find the most efficient way to earn those points!
Lastly, always keep an eye on your opponents. If you notice that someone is working towards a certain route, you might want to reconsider and find an alternative path. Remember, my friend, it’s not just about reaching your destinations, but also about preventing others from reaching theirs!
So, are you ready to grab those destination ticket cards and embark on an epic adventure? Get ready to explore the country, earn points, and have a ton of fun along the way. Let’s hit the road, my friend!

When I play the game, I come across Destination Ticket cards. These cards have two Locations written on them, along with a point value. It’s exciting because at the end of the game, I get the points for the cards I completed and lose points for the cards I didn’t complete.
Now, to complete a Destination Ticket card, I need to connect the two locations mentioned on the card by creating a continuous path of Routes that I claimed. The best part is I can have as many Destination Ticket cards as I want, so I can strategize my moves.
But wait, there’s more. I can also draw more Destination Ticket cards during the game. To do that, all I have to do is draw two cards from the top of the Destination Ticket cards deck. Here’s the catch though, I have to keep at least one of them, but if I want, I can keep both.
Now, any cards that I decide not to keep are put at the bottom of the Destination Ticket cards deck. So it’s important to think carefully before making a decision, because once I choose to keep a Destination Ticket card, I can’t discard it later.
If there’s only one Destination Ticket card left in the deck, you can still do this action, but you have to keep the card.
Don’t let other players see your Destination Ticket cards or know if you’ve completed them until the game ends.
To complete a District, you have to connect each Location with every other Location in that District. |
End of the Game
Once a player has two or fewer plastic Buses left, everyone gets one more turn, including that player. After that, the game is over and it’s time to tally up the final scores:

- First, you should make sure you counted the points correctly for the Routes you claimed. Take a moment to double-check.
- Next, it’s time to reveal your Destination Ticket cards. Add up the points for each card you completed, and subtract the points for any card you did not complete.
- And finally, don’t forget to score the value of every District you completed. A District consists of Locations that are the same color and number. To complete a District, you need to connect each Location to every other Location in that District, in any order.
The player who has the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
