Welcome to the Sci or Fi Files Game!
Here are the rules you need to know:
- I will show you a list of statements.
- Your goal is to determine whether each statement is a fact based in science (Sci) or a made-up idea from science fiction (Fi).
- For each statement, you will choose either “Sci” or “Fi” as your answer.
- Once you’ve made your choice, I will reveal the correct answer and give you an explanation.
- You’ll earn one point for each correct answer.
- At the end of the game, I’ll add up your points and let you know how well you did!

Hey there! Let’s talk about a fun game called “Collect and Win.” The goal of the game is simple – be the first player to collect one score chip from each card category!
When you’re ready to start, here’s how you set things up:
Setup
First, gather all the playing cards and shuffle them thoroughly. Each card has a different category, like animals, food, or sports. The categories are labeled at the top of each card, so they’re easy to identify.
Next, place all the cards face-down in a neat pile within reach of all the players. Make sure everyone has enough space to spread out their collected score chips.
Now it’s time to decide who goes first. You can choose any fair method you like, such as flipping a coin or playing rock-paper-scissors. The winner of this mini-challenge gets the honor of being the first player.
Gameplay
Once the setup is done, it’s time to start playing! As the first player, it’s your turn to draw a card from the pile. Remember, the goal is to collect one score chip from each category, so choose wisely!
When you have a card in hand, it’s time to interpret the image on it. Look closely and try to figure out which category the image belongs to. Some images might be obvious, while others require a bit of thinking. Trust your intuition and go with your gut feeling!
If you’re confident in your category guess, announce it to the other players. For example, you might say, “I believe this image belongs to the animals category!”
Now comes the exciting part – the other players get to guess whether they agree with your category choice or not. They can either agree with you and say, “I agree,” or disagree by saying, “I disagree.”
Once all the players have made their guesses, flip the card over to reveal the correct category. If you were right, congratulations! You get to collect a score chip from the pile and keep it as a point.
But if you were wrong, don’t worry. It’s not the end of the game just yet. You still have chances to collect score chips from other cards!
Now, it’s time for the next player to take their turn. The gameplay continues in the same way, with each player taking turns to draw a card and make their category guess.
Remember, the first player to collect one score chip from each category is the winner! So keep playing, trust your instincts, and have fun!
- To start playing the Sci or Fi Files game, pull open the box drawer.
- Each player will need three answer cards labeled 1, 2, and 3.
- Make sure that each player has a pencil and some paper.
How to Play
- One player, let’s call them Player 1, selects a card from any category and reads it out loud. Remember not to show the answers on the back of the card.
- All players, including the reader, silently choose the number they think is correct and place the corresponding answer card face down in front of them. Once all players have placed their answer cards on the table, Player 1 reveals the answers and explains which one is true or false and why.
- After that, players turn over their answer cards. Any player who answered correctly receives a color-coded score chip for that category.

The Different Types of Cards
In this game, there are many different types of cards that you can use.

Today I want to talk about the fascinating game known as “Two Truths and a Lie.” Have you ever played it? If not, let me explain how it works.
First, I’ll give you three statements. Two of them will be true, while the other will be a lie. Your task is to identify which statement is false. Sounds exciting, right?
Now, let’s dive in and see if you can spot the lie!
Let’s play a game! I’m going to give you three statements, and your job is to figure out which one of those statements is false.
Here they are:
Risk It! Cards
When I draw a Risk It! card, I have the option to play it on my own and take a chance with 2 score chips.
If I decide to take the risk, I have to answer the question on the card. If I get it right, I get to draw a second card from any category and answer that one too. If I answer both questions correctly, I earn a score chip from each of those categories.
But here’s the catch: if I get either of the answers wrong, I have to give back 2 score chips to the file cabinet. If I only have 1 chip, then I only have to return 1. And if I don’t have any chips, I don’t have to give anything back; I don’t go into chip debt.
Oh, and one more thing: if the second card I draw says “Risk It” or “Must choose,” I just ignore those instructions on the second card. They don’t apply.
If you don’t want to take any risks, you can choose to play this card as a regular all-play card instead.
Choosing Cards
When a card says “Must choose_____next,” it means that the next player has to pick a card from that specific category. For example, if Player 1 chooses a card from the UNclassified category and it says “Must choose Life Science next,” Player 2 has to pick the next card from the Life Science category.
Cards for Organizing Tasks
Task organization is a key aspect of productivity. When it comes to keeping my work in order, listing cards have become an essential tool for me. They provide a simple yet powerful way to visually organize and prioritize tasks.

Once everyone has finished making their lists, we take turns reading them out loud. Then, as a group, we decide if the answers are right or wrong. If there’s any confusion, we can check the suggestions on the back of the cards for clarification.
To earn a score chip, all three answers in your list need to be correct. You can write down more than three answers if you want, but be careful! You won’t get any extra score chips for additional answers, and even just one wrong answer will cost you your score chip, even if you have three correct answers.
When the game ends
The player who collects one score chip from each category first is the winner!
