Nusfjord Solo: A Guide for Playing Alone

Hey there! Want to learn how to play Nusfjord solo? I’ve got you covered. Let me walk you through the rules and setup for this exciting solo adventure.

First things first, let’s set up the game. Treat it as a 2-player game, following the regular game setup. Take the solo game First Player tile and flip it to the side that says “Solo Game”. Now, place the First Player ship on Round space 1.

Next, it’s time to get your personal display ready. Only use the red player-specific components and the blue Worker disks. These will be your tools for conquering Nusfjord on your own. Also, put the Imitation tile next to the bottom edge of the Action board, with the 4-player game side facing up. This side will show you one action space.

Alright, now that we’re all set up, let’s dive into the solo game. It’s just you against the world of Nusfjord, so think strategically and make each move count.

Remember, the goal is to build the best fishing village in Nusfjord. You’ll need to manage your resources wisely and make the right choices at the right time. It won’t be easy, but the challenge is what makes it exciting!

As you play, keep in mind that timing is key. You’ll need to plan ahead and take calculated risks to maximize your success. Each decision you make will have consequences, so choose wisely.

Don’t forget to pay attention to your opponents’ actions. While you’re playing solo, the other players’ actions can still influence your strategy. Stay vigilant and adapt your plans accordingly.

Now, go ahead and embark on your solo Nusfjord adventure. It’s time to show the world what you’re capable of. Have fun, and may the fish be plentiful!

How the Game Works

Let’s dive into the exciting gameplay of this unique game! Throughout the game, you’ll progress through 7 Rounds, taking turns to make your moves. What makes it even more interesting is that each Round has a different twist. In the odd-numbered Rounds, you’ll be in control of the red Workers, while in the even-numbered Rounds, you’ll have control over the blue Workers. That’s not all – the position of the First Player ship on the First Player tile tells you which Worker color you’ll control. If the ship is in the top row, you control the red Workers, while if it’s in the bottom row, you control the blue Workers. Clear enough so far?

Now, let’s talk about a couple of important things that change during gameplay:

  • Returning Home Phase: During this phase, you can only bring back the Workers from the Action board and the Elders that you will be controlling in the next Round. For example, in odd-numbered Rounds, you can only return blue Workers, and in even-numbered Rounds, you can only return red Workers.
  • Work Phase: In this phase, you’ll have to strategize your moves carefully. You won’t be able to use action spaces that are blocked by Workers placed in the previous Round, but only of the color you are not controlling. So, plan your moves wisely to make the most out of each Round!

Understanding the Connection between Blue Workers and Red Shares

During the Fishing Phase, you need to place fish on your red Shares, even if you have control over the blue Workers for that round. In the Work Phase, blue Workers have the ability to issue red Shares.

Now, onto the Imitation tile. This little gem allows you to copy any blocked action space on the Action board. It doesn’t matter if the blocking Worker is blue or red, you can mimic the action regardless.

When it comes to wrapping up the game, it follows the familiar pattern of ending after 7 Rounds. To score, refer to page 15 for instructions on how to tally up your points. The objective is to achieve as many Victory Points as you can. Skilled players tend to score between 30 and 40 Victory Points.

If you’re up for a challenge, you can make the game harder for yourself by flipping the solo game First Player tile to the other side. This side shows three rows of Round spaces, providing a more advanced solo gameplay experience.

Hey there! In the advanced solo game, you get to take turns playing as the red, blue, and yellow Workers. When it’s time to go back home, you’ll leave two sets of Workers on the Action board and Elders. Just flip the Imitation tile to the 5-player game side (where you’ll find three action spaces).

And guess what? You can use it just like you would in a regular 5-player game!

Campaign

Hey there! Let’s talk about an exciting game mode called “Campaign.” It’s a fantastic way to challenge yourself and have a blast playing three games in a row, using the awesome Building cards from a single deck.

During each game, we’ll keep things fresh by removing any Buildings you’ve already constructed and setting them aside on the “A” and “B” Building supply boards.

Now, here’s the fun part: for the second game, you’ll only use the remaining “A” and “B” Buildings that you haven’t played with yet. This ensures that each game feels unique and keeps you on your toes!

Hey there! It’s time for your third game. Let’s shuffle the cards that we set aside and use those. In this game, we’ll only be using Buildings that you haven’t built in the previous two games. But wait, there might not be enough “A” and “B” Buildings left to fully fill the supply boards. And in Round 6, there might be less than three “C” Buildings to add to the display. So, you’ll be seeing fewer Buildings than usual.

Now, your main goal is to get more than 100 Victory Points. If you manage to score over 100, the extra Points will determine your rank, unless you’ve already achieved a higher rank in a previous campaign.

Here’s the thing: if you score at least 10 Victory Points below what your current rank represents, you’ll lose one rank. Don’t worry, though, your rank can’t go below 0.
