My goal in this game is to win either 8 Victory Points in the short Mode or 10 Victory Points in the long Mode. You can choose which Mode you want to play before we start the game.

What You Need

The Game Board

The board we’ll be using has two sides. One side is designed for games with 3 or 5 players, while the other side is for games with 2 or 4 players. If we’re playing with 2 or 3 players, the East bank won’t be available to us throughout the entire game.

You see, the game board is split into different types of spaces. There are desert spaces, which are just empty and don’t do anything special. But then there are these cool special spaces. The special spaces are where all the action happens! You’ve got player’s cities, temples, and the super important Sanctuary of All Gods. These spaces have their own rules and can really change things up.

Oh, and don’t forget about the harbors and obelisks! They’re pretty awesome too. They’re printed on certain spaces on the board, and they can actually affect how you move around. So, you’ve gotta keep an eye out for them!

My City

In my game, I have a city that is made up of three different districts. Each district has its own unique space and a room where I can place a pyramid. Surrounding each district is a protective wall.

When you control a temple, you gain a temporary Victory Point and Prayer Points. But that’s not all – if you manage to control at least two temples by the end of a day phase, you’ll earn a permanent Victory Point!

Sanctuary of All Gods

Welcome to the Sanctuary of All Gods, a remarkable place that isn’t your ordinary temple. Here, if you’re the one in charge, you have the power to gain a permanent Victory Point by sacrificing two units. It’s an intriguing concept, isn’t it?

Obelisks:

Did you know that there are obelisks in all the temples, the Sanctuary of All Gods, and even some open areas in the desert? These magnificent structures have been standing tall for centuries, aweing visitors with their towering heights and intricate designs.

Harbors:

Harbors let you cross the Nile; they don’t make a separate area.

Pyramids

You have three pyramids: one white, one red, and one blue. Pyramids let you buy Power tiles. The level of the pyramid is equal to the number you see on the top. Each pyramid must go in a different part of your city.

Troops

Each figure represents a unit. When all your units are in the same place, they make a troop.

Important!

A troop can’t have more than 5 units. This means you can’t have more than 5 units in the same place.

Prayer Points

Prayer Points are the main resource of the game. They let you do different things. The symbol for Prayer Points is an ankh . You can NEVER have more than 11 , even with Power Tiles.

Victory Points

  • Square Victory Points are like little achievements that you get to keep forever. Once you earn them, they’re yours to keep.
  • Round Victory Points are temporary, which means you can lose them. Usually, this happens when someone invades your territory and takes them away.

Divine Intervention Cards

I have a collection of 35 Divine Intervention (DI) cards that I use in the game. They play a crucial role in influencing the course of the game.

Power Tiles:

Power Tiles are special cards that greatly enhance your capabilities and can even modify some of the game’s rules. They come in three different colors, each corresponding to the color of the pyramids in the game. Each color has a range of Power Tiles, from level 1 to level 4. So, there are 16 unique Power Tiles for each color. It’s important to always have the Power Tiles within sight.

Setup

  • I place the board in the middle of the table. I choose which side to use based on the number of players. Note: The eastern bank is off-limits for 2 and 3 players.
  • I put all the Power tiles face-up next to the board.
  • I place the Temples’ temporary Victory Points (VP) on them.
  • I place the permanent VP tokens of the Sanctuary of All Gods on it.
  • I put the other VP tokens next to the board.

I choose a city and receive:

  • I get an individual board.
  • I receive 5 Action tokens.
  • I place a marker on the 5th space of the Prayer Points scale.
  • I receive 12 units. I can distribute 10 units in the city’s districts with pyramids, with a maximum of 5 units per space. I keep 2 units in reserve.
  • I am given 6 Battle cards.
  • 3 Pyramids (You keep the Level 0 pyramids). 11

I’ll give you a random DI card. There are more DI cards next to the board, face-down in a draw pile. 12

First, let’s decide who goes first randomly. 13 Then, it’s your turn to choose how to distribute 3 points among your pyramids. You can choose either of these options: 1 / 1 / 1 or 2 / 1 / 0.

Game Turn

We’ll alternate between Night and Day phases until one of us wins the game.

A – Night (preparation Phase):

Alright, now on to the action phase!

  • During this phase, we can use the Action tokens. They allow us to perform various actions in the game.
  • We also need to keep track of our Prayer Points and permanent Victory Points on the board.

In the beginner mode, we make a few adjustments to make things easier:

During the preparation phase, we only show the level 1 Power tiles. The level 2 Power tiles will be introduced at the start of the second Day phase. And here’s an important note: the pyramids can only evolve up to level 2, not beyond that.

Oh, and here’s a twist: in the beginner mode, the game ends when someone reaches 4 points instead of the usual 8 at the end of a Day phase. So, let’s aim for those 4 points and claim victory!

Now, let’s talk about the Night Phase.

First things first – Distribution of the Prayer Points.

When we play the game, each of us gets 2 cards. You might also earn some extra cards called Prayer Points if you have certain special tiles.

2. How the Di Cards are Given Out

When we start a new game, each player is given a DI card. The cards are distributed one by one, in the order in which we take turns. There’s no limit to how many DI cards a player can have in their hand.

When you play a DI card, it doesn’t count as one of your actions. That means you can play multiple DI cards in the same phase. And if the cards have the same effect, those effects add up.

After you play a DI card, you discard it by placing it face down. When we run out of DI cards in the draw pile, we shuffle the discard pile to make a new draw pile.

If you want to play a DI card, you need to follow these steps:

  • I will pay the cost, if there is any (1 ).
  • I will play the DI card only when it is the appropriate time.

3. Using Power Effects

Now it’s time for each player to use the effects of their Power tiles that contain the Night symbol.

Example: With the Hand of God power, you can raise one of your pyramids by 1 level without having to pay anything.

4. Figuring Out the Turn Order

We will determine the turn order in the following way:

  • The player with the fewest Victory Points will determine the order for the entire turn.
  • If there is a tie, the player who played earlier in the turn will determine the order for the entire turn.

For the first turn, the turn order will be randomly determined.

B. Day Phase (Action Phase)

When we play the game, each of us has 5 Action tokens. We take turns putting down 1 Action token on an action space of our personal board, and we immediately get the benefit of that action.

We do this until we have used all of our Action tokens, which takes 5 turns.

Just remember!

You can’t put two Action tokens on the same space. Each space can only have one token.

After 5 turns, we need to make sure that we have placed at least one token in each of the first 3 levels of the action pyramid on our board.

By the way: The golden space at the top of the pyramid is only used for the Divine Will Power (golden chip).

2. Building a Pyramid

I’m going to tell you how to level up one pyramid. You can only level up one pyramid at a time, but you can raise a single pyramid by multiple levels in one go.

What happens when you level up your pyramid?

When you raise your pyramid by a certain number of levels, you need to gather the necessary resources to cover the costs.

Let me break it down for you. The cost of leveling up is directly related to the number of levels you want to go up. In other words, the higher you want to go, the more it’ll cost you.

So, let’s say you want to raise your pyramid by three levels. You’ll need to gather the resources required to cover the cost of those three levels. And remember, the cost increases as you go higher.

It’s like climbing a mountain. The higher you climb, the more effort and energy you need to get to the top. Same goes for leveling up your pyramid!

But here’s the thing. Leveling up your pyramid not only comes with a cost but also brings some cool benefits. As you go higher, you unlock new effects and abilities that can enhance your gameplay. It’s like discovering new superpowers!

Just keep in mind that every decision comes with its own set of challenges. So before you decide to level up, consider the cost and weigh it against the benefits you’ll gain.

To summarize, when you want to raise your pyramid, remember that the cost depends on how many levels you want to go up. And while it may require some extra effort and resources, the rewards can be totally worth it!

  • Teleporting to an obelisk costs 2 .
  • You can buy Power tiles of the same color and level.
  • A level 4 Pyramid gives you 1 temporary VP.

If you control an opponent’s pyramid with one of your troops, you get all of its benefits, including the temporary VP if it’s a level 4 pyramid. When your pyramid is controlled by an opponent, you lose all of its benefits.

3. Buy A Power Tile

With this action, you can buy a Power tile of a specific color. To buy another Power tile of the same color, you must wait until your next turn. Powers give you advantages in the game and allow you to focus your strategy by combining powers.

Just a quick reminder: You don’t place a level 0 pyramid on the board. Once it reaches level 1 or higher, you can put it in any available district of your city.

When you want to buy a Power tile: You need to have a pyramid of the same color and at least the same level as the Power you want to purchase.

How much does it cost to buy a Power tile? The cost is equal to the level of the tile. When you buy a Power tile, it’s yours for the entire game and can’t be taken away. Keep it in front of you, so it’s easy to see.

If you want to buy Shields of Neith, a blue level 3 Power tile, you’ll need a level 3 or 4 blue Pyramid. You’ll have to pay 3 .

In other words, you need a high-level blue Pyramid to get this powerful tile. Once you have it, you can activate its effects right away. However, some Powers only work at specific moments in the game. For example, Battle Powers, Priests, and Night phase Powers have their own timing.

Here’s an important rule: you can’t have two identical Power tiles. No duplicates allowed! This applies to Powers with the same effects and illustrations, even if they’re different colors. So don’t even think about grabbing both the Divine Action and Victory Point tiles, even though they look different!

If you spend X, you can immediately recruit X units. These units will be taken from your reserve and placed in one, two, or three districts in your city.

If you’re controlling an opponent’s district:

  • You can’t recruit units there. You can only recruit in your own city.
  • The opponent can recruit units as normal, which will trigger an immediate battle. It will be an attack.

Remember: A troop can only have a maximum of 5 units.

5. Move / Attack

The Move action allows you to move 1 troop. You don’t have to move all the units in the troop; you can leave some behind if you want. Also, you can gather units from spaces along the way, as long as you don’t exceed the troop’s movement capacity.

By default, a troop can only move 1 space.

If you want to increase your capacity, there are a few ways to do it:

  • Power tiles can boost all your troops.
  • Certain creatures have special abilities that can help.
  • DI cards can give you extra movement.

There are three ways to move your troops:

A) Ground Transportation:

You can move one or more units of the same troop to a space next to them.

B) Harbor Crossing:

If there are two connected harbors, you can cross the Nile between them. It only counts as one space movement, so it’s cost-effective.

C) Using Teleportation By A Pyramid:

Hey there! Wanna know something cool about this game? Well, let me tell you! When I’m playing, I have the ability to teleport my troops from a pyramid to an obelisk space. And get this – it only costs me 2 coins! The best part is that teleporting doesn’t use up any movement capacity, so I can keep on going!

Now, here’s the really interesting part. I can mix it up and use pyramid teleportation, ground transportation, and even cross the Harbor all in the same movement. Isn’t that awesome? There are no restrictions, as long as I have enough movement capacity and resources.

Oh, and let’s not forget about walls! Every player’s city is surrounded by walls. And guess what? I can only enter another player’s city if my troop starts its movement from a space next to the city wall. So, I can’t just move and enter an opponent’s city in the same turn. But don’t worry, the walls of my city don’t affect me at all.

Now, here’s a tip for you. Whenever you move, if you pass through or reach a space where your opponent’s troop is, brace yourself for a battle. Yep, that’s right! A battle must be resolved and your movement ends. Talk about excitement!

Battle Strategy

When a battle begins, you and your opponent each choose 2 Battle cards:

  • The first card is discarded immediately, either face up or face down.
  • The second card is played during the battle.

In addition, you can also play one or more DI cards hidden beneath your chosen Battle card. Once both players have made their choices, the Battle cards are revealed, along with any DI cards. You must pay any necessary costs for the DI cards.

Once the battle is over, both the played Battle cards and DI cards are discarded. You can choose to discard them face down or face up, depending on your initial choice before the game began. When you have discarded all 6 Battle cards, you retrieve them all and add them back to your hand.

Determining a Victor

The Battle value of each player is calculated by adding together:

  • How many units are in my troop?
  • What is the strength value of my Battle cards?
  • Do I have any attack or defense bonuses from my Power tiles?
  • Are there any bonuses given by creatures engaged in the battle?

The player with the higher Battle value wins the battle.

Just to clarify: If there is a tie, then the defender wins the battle.

Counting Casualties

Every Battle card has a Damage value and a Protection value. You can increase these values with DI, Power tiles, and creatures.

Both the winner and the loser of the battle lose units equal to the total Damage value of their opponent, minus their own total Protection value.

Even if the winner loses all of their units, they are still considered the winner, as long as the defender has survivors left.

Victory Points

When I’m in a battle, winning is everything. Not only does it show my strength, but it also earns me valuable Battle Victory Points (VP) that can really make a difference. But, here’s the catch – I only get those points if I win and still have at least one unit left. So, it’s a high-risk strategy, but the potential rewards are worth it.

But what happens if I lose?

Well, if I lose a battle, I don’t get any Battle VP. It’s as simple as that. No victory, no points. It’s tough, but that’s the name of the game. On the other hand, even if my opponent wins, they don’t get any Battle VP unless they have at least one unit left. So, it’s a double-edged sword – both sides have something to lose and something to gain.

Now, let’s talk about retreat.

If I find myself on the losing side of a battle, I have a choice to make. Should I call back my troops or should I retreat? It’s not an easy decision, and it could have long-lasting consequences. If I choose to retreat, it’s up to the winner of the battle to decide where my troops will be pushed back to. However, there’s a catch – the chosen space must be adjacent to the battle site and should not have any units on it. So, if there’s no suitable spot for me to retreat to, then retreating isn’t an option. It’s a tough situation to be in, but sometimes, there’s simply nowhere to run.

Or maybe I should recall a troop.

In some cases, rather than retreating, I might decide to recall one of my troops. It’s a strategic move that can give me an advantage in future battles. By calling back a troop, I can regroup and come back stronger. It’s a chance to learn from my mistakes and plan my next move carefully.

When a battle is over, both the winner and the loser have the option to bring back their surviving units to their God. Each unit that is recalled earns the player 1 point. These units are then returned to the player’s reserve, ready to be recruited again in the future.

It’s important to know that you can’t choose to recall only some of your units and leave the others behind. It’s all or nothing.

The Beings

There are seven amazing creatures that bring many advantages to the troops who travel with them. To acquire a creature, simply purchase the corresponding Power tile.

If I have at least one unit in one of my three city districts, I can place the creature there right away. If not, the creature goes in front of me on the matching Power tile.

Listen up!

Remember, I can never have more than one creature in a given space, even if it’s in one of my city districts.

A creature doesn’t count as a unit, so:

  • It doesn’t count towards the 5-unit limit.
  • In battle, only its bonuses are added to the Battle value. It doesn’t increase the number of units.

If you ever lose a creature during a game, don’t fret! They’re pretty resilient. Whenever the last unit with a creature is destroyed, that creature goes back to the city. They’ll be placed in a district with at least one unit. In case that’s not possible, they’ll be returned to the reserve on their Power tile.

The Mysterious Creature in the Reserve

When I use the Recruit action in a game, a creature lurking in the reserve will return to the board. I get to choose which one of these mysterious creatures will come back to one of my districts first. It’s like a surprise waiting to be revealed!

Controlling the Sacred Temples

If I manage to control a temple at the end of a Battle or a movement, I will gain temporary Victory Points (VP) for that specific temple. It’s like receiving a special reward for being in charge! In order to control a temple, I must have at least one unit standing on it. If all my units leave the temple, I must give back the temporary VP that I had earned.

Reminder: Keep in mind that the Sanctuary of All Gods is not considered a temple in this game.

Prayer and the Awarding of Permanent Victory Points

Once all players have finished their actions, it’s time to distribute Prayer Points and permanent Victory Points. This is when the real glory is bestowed!

    The Delta Temple and the Other Temples

    When I’m in control of the Delta temple, I can choose to take back one of my units from the temple and put it back in my reserve. For doing so, I receive 5 points.

    But if other players are in control of the temples that are not the Delta temple, they get a little less. They receive 2 or 3 points and keep the temporary points they earn from those temples, too.

    Now, let’s talk about the Sanctuary of All Gods. When I control this sanctuary, I have the power to bring back two of my units from there and put them back in my reserve. For doing so, I receive one permanent point.

    And here’s another important point: if any player controls at least two temples (excluding the Sanctuary of All Gods), that player automatically receives one permanent point.

    How the Game Ends

    The game comes to an end as soon as a player has at least 8 points. Well, actually, you have a choice; you can choose to go for 10 points instead. But either way, once a player reaches their chosen number of points at the end of a Day phase, that player wins!

    If there’s a tie, the winner is determined by the following criteria:

    1. The player with the most points.
    2. If the tie still remains, then the player with the most Battle points wins.
    3. If you played in the previous Day phase, you go first
