To set up the game, you’ll need the game board, which represents a tree trunk with branches and hollows. The branches are color-coded, each representing a different level of difficulty. Make sure to pick the one that suits your skill level!

You’ll also need the weasel, the three dice, and the precious eggs. Each player controls a bird, represented by a wooden egg. The goal is to reach the top of the tree and collect as many eggs as possible.

The game starts by rolling the dice. The dice determine the actions you can take on your turn. They will tell you how to move your bird along the branches or take eggs from the tree. You need a steady hand and quick reflexes to succeed!

Now, let’s talk about the weasel. The weasel is always watching, ready to pounce on any birds that make a wrong move. If it catches you, you’ll lose some of your precious eggs. So be careful and stay one step ahead!

The Wolverine, also known as Gulo Gulo, is the big boss of the marten family. You see, this guy is always hungry, and when he spots a nest full of eggs, he just can’t resist. It’s like a calling he can’t ignore.

The younger Wolverines, the kids if you will, are just as obsessed with lady swamp vultures’ eggs. But there’s a catch – one of them, Junior Gulo, got caught red-handed by the lady herself while trying to snatch an egg. Poor Junior is now in detention.

So what’s left for us to do? We gotta rally the family and go on a search mission to find that little rascal. The thing is, the Gulo family is so fixated on those eggs that they can’t help but pocket one every time they see a nest. It’s like an addiction they can’t kick.

But let me tell you, stealing eggs is no piece of cake. It’s gotten pretty challenging these days. Those lady swamp vultures know how to protect their precious eggs.

The Parts

• I need 1 black cotton bag.
• I need 22 eggs in 5 colors – 5 green, 5 yellow, 5 red, 5 blue, and 2 purple.
• I need 1 nest made out of wood.
• I need 1 alarm pole.
• I need 1 octagonal Gulo junior tile.
• I need 23 octagonal yard tiles – 5 blue, 6 green, 6 red, and 6 yellow tiles.
• I need 6 Gulos in 6 different colors.

Let’s Get Set Up

Okay, here’s what we’re gonna do. First, put the nest right in the middle of the table. Once it’s there, fill it up with all the eggs. Stick the alarm pole right in the middle of the eggs. Good job!

Now, let’s shuffle those 23 octagonal yard tiles so they’re all facing down. Keep ’em a surprise!

Alright, now it’s time to pick 4 yard tiles without lookin’. Don’t peek! We’re also gonna add the Gulo junior tile. Once you’ve got those 4 tiles, give ’em a good shuffle with the other 5 yard tiles. We’ll use these 5 face-down tiles as the deck. The fun is just beginning!

Ok, here’s what you need to do: first, take all the remaining yard tiles and place them face down, starting at the deck. Make sure they form a long path without any interruptions – this is your yard tile path. Now, it’s time to pick your Gulo. Choose one and put it behind the very first yard tile, just like this:

Follow the Path to Victory

Stealing an egg is just the beginning. Your next move depends on the color of the egg you obtained. If it’s a radiant red egg, you venture forth to the next red yard tile. On the other hand, if you managed to pilfer a dazzling blue egg, off you go to the next blue yard tile. And so it goes, each egg propelling you closer to triumph.

Hey there! Let me break it down for you on how this game works. So, when it’s your turn, you have the option to flip over the next yard tile that’s face down if you want. But here’s the catch – if you do decide to flip it over, you’ve got to snatch an egg from the nest that matches the color of that tile. Pretty simple, right?

So, I’m playing this game called “David,” right? One of the things I can do is flip over a yard tile. And when I do that, I have to steal an egg of the same color from the nest.

By the way: If I turn over a yard tile, I have to take an egg of that color from the nest.

But get this – I don’t have to turn over yard tiles if there are already some face-up ones in front of my Gulo.

Actually, it might be a smart move to not flip over any new yard tiles. That way, I can choose from the colors that are already in front of my Gulo.

Imagine this: I’m standing in front of Matilda’s Gulo, and there are these yard tiles in front of me. They’re face-down, and I have the choice to turn over the next one, let’s call it “x.” But you know what? I decide not to. Instead, I have a better idea. I’m gonna steal a red egg. Why, you ask? Well, because by doing that, my Gulo can move the farthest. Pretty smart, huh? Just so you know: If I don’t turn over a yard tile, I can choose which egg I want to steal from the nest. All I have to do is pick one of those open yard tiles in front of my Gulo. That way, the choice is mine, and I can go for the color I want.

Now, here’s the thing. If only face-down yard tiles are in front of my Gulo (like at the start of the game), I don’t have a choice. I have to turn over the yard tile that’s right in front of my Gulo. And you know what happens next? I get to steal an egg of the same color. Yeah, it’s a rule and all, but hey, it keeps things fair.

So there you have it. That’s how it works. It’s all about making the right decisions and strategizing to get the best outcome. Now that you understand the basics, it’s time to put your game face on and start having some fun! Remember, the choice is yours, so make it count. Good luck!

As I look ahead, all I see are face-down yard tiles scattered in front of Clara’s Gulo. It’s my turn to make a move, so I flip over the first tile in front of me. Turns out, it’s a yellow one! So, without hesitation, I sneakily snatch a yellow egg from the nest.

But hold on! There’s a rule. I can’t reveal the uppermost yard tile at the end of the path until my Gulo reaches the last tile of the path. It’s a suspenseful journey, after all!

With the stolen egg securely hidden away, I carefully place it inside the cotton bag. Now it’s time to move my Gulo.

Moving My Gulo

If I manage to snag an egg of the same color without triggering an EGG ALARM, my Gulo can boldly leap forward to the next available yard tile of that color. It’s a thrilling chase!

Now it’s my turn. I choose to flip over the next face-down yard tile. It turns out to be a yellow one. Once I manage to snatch a yellow egg from the nest, I’m not allowed to jump onto the tile I just flipped over. Instead, I can only jump as far as the next yellow yard tile.

This means I can’t jump over a tile of the color I just selected. After I move my Gulo, it’s my left-hand neighbor’s turn.

There’s no limit to how many Gulos can stand on the same yard tile. And there’s no limit to how many Gulos can pass each other.

Egg Alarm

If another egg falls from the nest while I’m trying to steal or if the alarm pole topples over, guess what? The EGG ALARM goes off! In that case, my bold Gulo has to move back to the next yard tile of the color I couldn’t snatch.

If there are no yard tiles of the same color behind your Gulo, you don’t have any other option but to go back to the start. Your Gulo should be placed behind the first yard tile.

Every time the EGG ALARM goes off, all the eggs are gathered, mixed up in the cotton bag, and poured back into the nest. The alarm pole is stuck between the eggs to keep it in place.

Once you’ve moved your Gulo, your turn is complete, and it’s now your left-hand neighbor’s turn to play.

The last egg of a certain color

If you manage to snag the last egg of a particular color without setting off the EGG ALARM, you’ll earn an extra turn. But before you take that bonus turn, there are a few things to remember. First, grab all the eggs and put them in the soft cotton bag. Give them a good mix, and then pour them back into the nest. Now, stick the alarm pole right in the middle of the eggs.

Here are some important things to consider when you’re sneaking an egg from the nest:

• Always make it clear which egg you’re going for. Once you’ve chosen, you can’t change your mind.
• Remember, you can only use one hand to grab the egg.
• It’s okay if the alarm pole touches your fingers, but you can’t intentionally hold, push, or move it.
• Be careful not to shift, hold, or move any eggs on purpose.

When I’m trying to remove a specific egg from the nest, I can push other eggs away, but I can’t actually hold them. The only egg I can hold is the one I’m targeting.

The alarm pole is allowed to touch the edge of the nest. The EGG ALARM will only sound if the pole touches the table or if an egg falls out of the nest.

If the alarm pole falls out of the nest without any player causing it, the player who just took their turn needs to carefully put it back between the eggs.

Now let’s talk about the end of the game. When my Gulo reaches the last yard tile, I flip over the top yard tile of the deck on my next turn. If it’s not the Gulo junior yard tile, I have to snatch an egg from the nest that matches the color of the newly revealed yard tile.

When you successfully complete this task (without setting off the EGG ALARM), you must place the current yard tile in front of the tile where your Gulo is standing.

I managed to snatch a crimson egg for a freshly rotated crimson yard tile. Consequently, I now elongate the path with this tile, hop onto it, and receive an additional turn.

Next, shift your Gulo onto the newly positioned tile and right away take another turn to keep going. Repeat this process until you locate Gulo’s offspring or set off the EGG ALARM.

Oh no! Watch out for the EGG ALARM in the deck yard! Here’s what you do: take the yard tile, turn it over, and place it face down at the bottom of the deck. Then, move your Gulo to the next tile of the same color.

If the EGG ALARM goes off, you’ll need to move your Gulo back to the next yard tile of the color you didn’t steal. Put the yard tile you turned over back in the deck, face down. Don’t forget to refill the nest with all the eggs (just like it says in the EGG ALARM section) and put the alarm pole back. Once you’ve done that, it’s the next player’s turn.

If you turn over the Gulo junior yard tile, you have to try and steal a purple egg from the nest. If you can do it without setting off the EGG ALARM, you’ve saved Gulo junior and won the game!

Guess what? If you find the Gulo junior tile and snag a purple egg, you win!

But watch out! If the EGG ALARM sounds when you’re trying to nab that egg, don’t worry. The game isn’t over yet. Just move your Gulo back one tile in the yard. Put Gulo junior at the bottom of the deck, face down.

Uh-oh! EGG ALARM! I was trying to sneakily snatch the purple egg, but Gulo junior caught me. I gotta retreat and move my Gulo back one yard tile.

After the EGG ALARM, the nest needs to be restocked, so we put all the eggs back in, and stick the alarm pole back in its place. Now, it’s time for my neighbor on the left to take their turn.

A Faster Way to Play

• If you’re lightning quick and manage to grab an egg without setting off the ALARM, you can take the yard tile and put it face down at the bottom of the deck. Then, flip over the next yard tile and keep playing. See how far you can go without getting caught or triggering the alarm!
• If you’re not so lucky and the egg thief catches you, you have to move your Gulo back to the next tile of the color you failed at. That tile goes back, face down, under the deck. Don’t worry, though – the game keeps going, the nest gets refilled, and it’s the next player’s turn.
