Distribute palace cards and turn order cards based on the number of players. Finally, place action cards and tiles within reach of all players.
Gameplay
The game is played over a series of turns, with each player taking their turn in clockwise order. On your turn, you can perform one of the following actions: take cards, play cards, use an artisan, or pass. Let’s take a closer look at each action:

In the game called “the Artisans of Naqala,” a new tribe is introduced – the Artisans. This tribe brings a whole new element to the game. You can use the Artisans and their special items to gain an advantage over your opponents and become the ruler of the Sultanate.
Let me tell you about the components of the game. You will receive six different tiles: three workshops, two specialized markets, and one chasm. These tiles are crucial for your strategy. You will also get 15 wooden tribe meeples, four tents, and four Djinn cards. Additionally, there are six mountains, 18 item markers, a new scoring pad, and four summary sheets. If you were one of the first to get your hands on Five Tribes, you might have received Slave cards. But in the latest version, those have been replaced with Fakir cards. Don’t worry if you don’t have Fakir cards, though. Whenever you come across a Fakir symbol, just use your Slave cards instead.
Now, let’s get into the setup. Every player starts with their own Camels, Turn Marker, and Gold Coins, as usual. Additionally, each player gets a Tent in their own color.
To create the game board, randomly select 10 Tiles from the Five Tribes base game. Then, mix in the 6 new Tiles (WORKSHOPS, Specialized Markets and Chasm). Shuffle all 16 of these Tiles together and arrange them randomly on the table to form a square, measuring 4×4 Tiles.
Next, take the remaining 20 Tiles and shuffle them. Place these Tiles randomly around the central 16 Tiles. By the end, you should have a 6×6 square of Tiles.
Hey there! I’ve got a handy tip for you. Pay attention to the new mountains! It’s super important that you keep the same orientation for all the Tiles. And listen, if a Tile is completely surrounded by mountains, you’ll want to start over because all Tiles need to stay accessible. Trust me, it makes a big difference.
Hey there! Let’s get started with the game setup. First, place the Mountains on the Work- shop Tiles. Next, put the purple Meeples in the bag and follow the standard set-up process. Make sure to place 3 Meeples on each Tile, except for the Chasm, which stays empty.
Now, shuffle the Item Markers and stack them face down next to the board.
You’ll also need to place the Bid Order & Turn Order Tracks, Resource cards, Djinn cards (don’t forget the new ones!), Gold Coins, Palm Trees, and Palaces according to the usual set-up.
Each Workshop receives two Mountains.
Game Play
This booklet will explain how to play with the new game elements of Five Tribes. Don’t worry, the other rules stay the same.
Tile Control Check
When the game starts, you’ll receive a Tent along with your Camels. When you take control of a Tile, you can choose to place a Camel on it as usual, or you can put your Tent on it instead.
When you reach the end of the game, your Tent will earn Victory Points (VP) depending on the value of the tile it occupies. You will also receive an additional VP for each adjacent tile with a Red value, including the tile your Tent is on if it is also Red valued.
Imagine tents as camels in every way. So, whenever the rules mention “camels,” they’re also talking about tents. That means if you run out of camels, the game isn’t over yet. You have to place all your camels and your tent to trigger the end of the game.
Hey there! Let me tell you about this awesome Tent. When you have it, you can get a whopping 12 victory points when the game is over. That’s pretty cool, right? But that’s not all. The Purple Artisans Tribe has a new action related to this Tent. It’s a tribe all about art and creativity, and they’re really talented. Hi there! Let’s talk about what you can do with the Purple Meeples you just collected. Place them in front of you and grab an equal number of Item Markers from the pile. You’ll keep one face down and show the others. These Items will give you Victory Points (VPS) when the game ends, except for Magic Items which have a special effect.
When the game ends, each Artisan will score you 3 VPS, but only if no one else has more Artisans than you. If someone does, you’ll only get 2 VPS per Artisan.
You can use Artisans in the Workshops during the game to get more Items. Check out the details below.
Remember: Assassins can kill your Artisans, just like Viziers or Elders!
New Tile Actions
You don’t have to take these new Tile Actions, but you can if you want to. Just make sure you can pay the costs.
