Join the Mission and Establish Your Presence in the Final Frontier!
Greetings, fellow space enthusiasts!
I’m here to tell you about an extraordinary opportunity that awaits you in the vast expanse of the cosmos. The challenge is simple: embark on a climactic mission and prove your mettle as we venture into uncharted territories.
The adventure begins with the completion of the final round, where you and your team will be greeted with a triumphant sense of accomplishment. However, as we celebrate our achievements, a dilemma arises – the scarcity of parts to replenish our interstellar station. Yes, my friends, we find ourselves faced with the task of finding the necessary components to fuel our cosmic endeavors.
But fear not, for there is light at the end of this intergalactic tunnel! The prize for this epic quest is not just limited to personal triumph. Your organization has the chance to be honored with prestigious Industry Awards, recognizing your exceptional contributions to this new frontier.
So, fellow explorers, are you ready to rise to the challenge? Let us set up our mission and establish our presence among the stars. Together, we can leave an indelible mark on the pages of space exploration history!
Setup

I chose an organization to play as, so I grabbed my Primary Core card, five bidding tiles, and 3 crew members from the supply. I put my Primary Core card in front of me because that’s where I’ll start building my ship.
I also placed my score marker on the “O” space of the station’s score track and kept my bidding tiles handy for the upcoming Bidding Phase.
Next, I shuffled the seven industry award tokens and placed three of them face-up on the table. I made sure to put one on each of the appropriate spaces on the game board, and returned the four unused tokens to the game box.
Then, I separated and shuffled the climactic missions from the mission deck. I revealed three of them and placed each one as the last mission in one of the three mission stacks. Any unused climactic missions went back into the game box.
And that’s how you get started playing the game! Have fun!
Now let’s get the missions ready for the game. First, I’ll shuffle the remaining mission cards and deal them out. For a game with 2-3 players, I’ll deal two mission cards for each of the mission stacks. For a game with 4-5 players, I’ll deal three mission cards for each stack.
After dealing the cards, we’ll have three stacks. If it’s a 2-3 player game, each stack will have three cards. If it’s a 4-5 player game, each stack will have four cards.
Before we move on, we should return any unused mission cards back to the game box.
Now, let’s organize the cards in each stack. We’ll start by ordering them from lowest to highest point values. The mission with the lowest value will be on top, while the mission with the highest value (which we’ll call the climactic mission) will be on the bottom.
If there are two missions with the same point value in the same stack, we’ll sort them alphabetically. For example, if we have “Cleomedes Moon Colony” and “Mars Elevator,” “Cleomedes Moon Colony” will go on top.
Lastly, we’ll spread out each stack so that we can see the missions and their requirements at a glance.
Let’s start by shuffling the parts deck and placing a part face-up on each open card slot on the board. We’ll do this for each player in the game. For example, in a 4-player game, we would place parts on all the empty part spaces, as well as the spaces with “3-Players+*” and “4-Players+*” text.
Here’s how many part cards you should have on the board based on the number of players:
Next, we need to shuffle the remaining part cards and stack them face-down near the board.

Alright, let me break it down for you. Here’s how you play the game:
First things first, the youngest player needs to count all the engine icons on the board. Once that’s done, they roll that exact number of dice.
The highest number on the dice gets matched with the highest number available on the part cards, and you place the highest die on that specific icon. Got it so far?
Now, take the second-highest die and match it with the second-highest number. Keep going until all the rolled dice have been paired with a card. Any leftover dice go in the designated area on the upper-left portion of the game board.
With me? Great! We’re almost ready to start. The player who lives the farthest away gets the honor of being the First Player, and they kick things off with the Bidding Phase.
Let’s Go Over the Important Stuff
Icon Key

Welcome to Farlight Station! This is the central hub where everything happens. Think of it like a control center for your interstellar adventures. Here, you’ll find all the information you need to keep your organization running smoothly. Let me show you around.
First, let’s talk about the game board. It’s the heart of Farlight Station, representing this bustling interstellar hub. You’ll use it to keep track of your organization’s status and make important decisions. It’s like a map that shows you where you are in the vastness of space.
As you navigate the game board, you’ll come across various services that you can bid on. These services include hiring new crew members and acquiring essential parts for your missions. This is where the real action happens! You’ll need to strategize and make wise choices to ensure your organization thrives.
When we talk about “Farlight Station” or simply “station,” we’re referring to the game board. The terms are used interchangeably, so you’ll hear both throughout your journey.
Now that you know what Farlight Station is all about, it’s time to dive in and explore this exciting world. Get ready for an adventure that will take you to the far reaches of space and beyond. The possibilities are endless, and the fate of your organization is in your hands. So, let’s embark on this interstellar journey together and make Farlight Station thrive!

A: Scoring Track
When you reach 40 points, flip your scoring marker to the *40′ side and keep going.
B: Facilities
You can bid on various services provided by facilities during the Bidding Phase. Facilities are always available for bidding.
C: Parts
Upgrade your ship in the Assembly Phase by bidding on different equipment called parts.
D: Missions
Missions are jobs posted at the station that need to be completed. They are the main way to score points in Farlight.
Game Play
A game of Farlight is divided into three phases:
Bidding Phase
When we’re in the Bidding Phase, we take turns bidding on the different parts, missions, and facilities at Farlight Station. I start us off by placing two of my bidding tiles face-down in the bidding area for a part, mission, or facility. You can split your tiles between two bids or place both on the same bid, but you have to use two bidding tiles.
We keep repeating this process until all the bidding tiles are placed. Just remember that on the third round of bidding, you’ll only have one tile to use.
Let’s take it one step at a time: We can only bid on the three missions that are available each round. Look for the lowest numbered card in a stack or the card closest to the top of the game board.
Hey there! When you play a bidding tile, you have the option to put a crew token on top of it. This crew token bumps up the value of the bidding tile when we resolve the bids. Cool, right? Even if you put both bidding tiles on the same bid, you can still add one crew token to each tile. It’s like getting a bonus for both!
But hold up, there are some rules. You can only place one crew token on a bidding tile, and you have to do it at the same time as you place the tile. You can’t just sneakily add crew to a tile that was placed in a previous turn. We like keeping things fair.
Here’s some math for you: Get this, each player has 5 bidding tiles, adding up to a total value of 10 (4+3+2+1+0). And guess what? You can only add one crew token to increase the value of each tile by 1. Crunching those numbers, it means that the highest total bid any player can make is 15. No more, no less.
Now, let’s talk about the Assembly Phase.
The Assembly Phase starts as soon as we all have our last bidding tile in place. In this phase, we don’t take turns – we all move together through its three steps.
Assembly: Determine Winning Bids
We flip all our bidding tiles face-up and resolve each bid for parts and facilities one by one. We don’t resolve mission bids right now – that happens during the Launch Phase.
We add up the value of all our bidding tiles, and for each crew placed with a bidding tile, we add one to the total. We then compare the totals of all players, and the highest total wins the bid.
If there’s a tie for the highest bid, the player with the First Player marker (or the player closest in turn order to the First Player marker) will win the bid.

Example: So, we all put our bidding tiles on the Proton Analyzer card. John showed a ‘3’ and a ‘2’, with crew tokens on each. So, his total is 1. Lisa flipped her tile and pulled a sneaky move – a ‘0’. Sneaky Lisa! Sarah flips her tiles and reveals an “A” and a “3” for a total of 7. Wow!
Now, here’s the thing. Since there’s a tie for the highest bid, the person with the First Player marker breaks the tie and wins. And guess who has that marker? It’s Sarah! So, Sarah wins the tie and gets the Proton Analyzer.
Here’s the Cool Part
Sarah gets to keep her bidding tile(s). Any crew she added to boost her bid are returned to their supply. She can put the part card in front of her – she’ll either install it or toss it out in the next phase.
To start, I’ll grab any crew bonuses that were put on the card in earlier rounds. Don’t worry, I’ll collect them even if I don’t install that part. It’s nice to have some extra help!
Getting a Facility
If you win a bid on a facility, you’ll get a special bonus right away:

Refit: You can remove any parts from your ship that you no longer need.
Refitting your ship is an essential task that allows you to make modifications and improvements. It’s like giving your ship a makeover to ensure it remains in top shape. With the ability to discard any number of parts, you have the freedom to adapt your ship to your specific needs and desires.
Imagine having a ship that is perfectly tailored to your requirements. By removing unnecessary parts, you can optimize your ship’s performance and functionality. It’s like decluttering your ship, getting rid of the excess baggage that may be weighing you down. You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference this simple act of refitting can make.
Refitting is all about customization and personalization. It allows you to take control and actively shape your ship to suit your unique style and objectives. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker looking for speed and agility or a strategist seeking robust defenses, refitting gives you the power to tailor your ship accordingly.
But refitting isn’t just about discarding parts. It’s also an opportunity for rejuvenation and regeneration. By replacing worn-out or damaged parts with new ones, you can breathe new life into your ship. It’s like giving your ship a fresh start, boosting its performance and ensuring it remains reliable and efficient.
So, how do you go about refitting your ship? It’s simple. Just take a good look at your ship and evaluate its current state. Identify the parts that are no longer serving their purpose or hindering your progress. Remove them and replace them if necessary with more suitable alternatives.
Remember, refitting is an ongoing process. As you gain experience and encounter new challenges, your ship’s needs may change. Stay open to adapting and evolving your ship to stay ahead of the game. With each refit, you’ll discover new possibilities and unlock greater potential.
In conclusion, refitting is a vital aspect of ship maintenance and development. It offers you the opportunity to tailor your ship to your desires and goals. By removing unnecessary parts and replacing worn-out components, you can optimize your ship’s performance and ensure its longevity. So, embrace the power of refitting and elevate your ship to new heights.

Need more help? Get three new crew members on board.

Hey there! Let’s explore something cool: Get ready to learn a brand new scientific fact that will blow your mind!

Engineer: I can help you boost one of your engines by adding 1 to its value, up to a maximum of 6.
Losing Bids
If you didn’t win the bid, don’t worry! You get all your bidding tiles back, and any crew you placed with your bids doesn’t go to the supply. Instead, you receive one additional crew from the supply for each non-‘O’ bidding tile you retrieve.
Interesting, right? This means that sometimes it can actually be more profitable to bid high on a card or space that many players want, even if you end up not winning it in the end. Why? Well, because you get to gain extra crew tokens this way!
Tanstaaf: Just remember, you can’t win a bid by only using your “0” bidding tile, even if no one else placed a bid.
However, if you placed a crew with the “0” tile to increase its value by 1, you would be eligible to win the bid.

Example: Let’s continue with the bidding example. Since I had the winning bid for the Proton Analyzer, I retrieve my ‘2’ and ‘3’ bidding tiles along with the crew tokens I played with them.
I also get two additional crew tokens from the supply because I retrieved two of my bidding tiles and neither of them was my ‘0’ marker. So, I gain the crew tokens I placed with my bidding tiles and an extra two for each non-‘0’ bidding tile in the failed bid.
Lisa retrieves her ‘O’ bidding tile. However, she doesn’t receive a crew token for that retrieved non-winning bidding tile because it was her ‘O’ marker.
Unfortunately, Lisa doesn’t gain any crew tokens from her losing bid. She didn’t play any crew tokens with her bid, and she also doesn’t get any crew tokens for retrieving the losing bidding tile because it was her ‘O’ marker.
Assembly: Installing the Parts
Now that all the winning bids for parts and facilities have been decided, it’s time for us to install the parts we’ve won on our ships. This is an exciting moment!
When we install parts, we all do it at the same time. It’s a race to see who can get their ship up and running the fastest.
To begin, each of us starts with a Primary Core that has four connectors. They can connect upwards, downwards, to the left, or to the right. This core is like the heart of our ship.
As we install new parts, we need to make sure they connect with these four types of connectors. Each new part will have between 1 to 4 connectors, and we have to attach them correctly to the primary core.
Something else to keep in mind is that some parts have a crew cost displayed at the top left corner of the card. Before we can install these parts, we need to pay the crew cost to the supply. It’s like hiring the right people to work on our ship.
To put in a part, you gotta have an open connector that matches one on the part you want to install (up goes with down, right goes with left, and vice versa).
You don’t need to match all the connectors on the card – just one connection is enough to install a part (although this might block some other open connectors).
Those slots above the title show how many cards with the same connector combo are in the deck.
If you win a bid for an engine part, its dice stay with it at their current value. If you can’t or don’t want to install it, you discard the part to the game box.
You can’t turn or rotate a card when you install it – it’s gotta match the orientation of the rest of your craft.
So here’s the thing: once you’ve put a part somewhere, you can’t just change your mind and move it to a different spot. Nope, it’s staying right where it is. And don’t even think about trying to twist or turn it around – that’s a no-go too.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. What if I make a mistake? What if I realize that I put a part in the wrong place? Well, don’t worry, my friend. There’s a solution for that. All you gotta do is make your way over to the Refit facility on Farlight Station.
Speaking of which, let me tell you a little secret. The Refit facility is the only place where you can take parts off your ship. It’s like a magical shop where you can remove those misplaced parts and give your ship a fresh start.
So there you have it. Once a part is in place, it’s not going anywhere unless you visit the Refit facility. Keep that in mind, my friend, and you’ll be sailing through the stars in no time.

Important
Only use real interocitor parts.
You can’t turn the part cards or have them facing the wrong way. They have to match the orientation of the other parts of your ship.
Putting it Together – Getting Perks
Once all the parts are either connected or thrown away, we all get benefits at the same time. The benefits are based on the symbols on our ships.

When you install a icon, you only receive its benefits once. These benefits are not carried over to future rounds.

During every Assembly Phase, I gather the benefits associated with an icon. And guess what? Those benefits even include the phase in which the icon was installed.
Here’s the deal: for every science icon on your ship, you get to add one science from the supply. It’s like finding an extra bonus for your brain power! And if you have crew icons on your ship, you’ll get an extra crew member from the supply. They’ll be your right-hand people, ready to help you out.
Now, let’s talk upgrades. If you’ve got upgrade icons on your ship, you can amp up your engines. Each upgrade icon allows you to increase one of your ship’s engines by 1. You can keep on boosting them up to a maximum of 6. It’s like giving your ship a little extra oomph!
But wait, there’s more! We’ve got overhaul icons too. Having them on your ship means you have the power to make some serious engine changes. Each overhaul icon allows you to switch one of your ship’s engines to a 6. That’s some advanced tech right there!
So, remember, every Assembly Phase is a chance to benefit from these icons. They bring science, crew, and engine upgrades to the table. It’s like having a whole team of experts working beside you. With these icons on your side, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish!
The Exciting Launch Phase
Just like in the Assembly Phase, we don’t take turns in the Launch Phase. We all tackle this phase together. The Launch Phase has two parts: Completing Missions and Round Reset.
Completing Missions in the Launch Phase
To figure out who wins a mission, we start with the mission card with the lowest value. We follow the same bidding process from the Assembly Phase to determine the winner.
A Few Important Things to Remember
Regarding Liability
Remember, the rules about crew recovery only apply when you’re bidding on Farlight Station for parts and facilities. Once you use crew tokens for bidding on missions, you don’t get them back.
Also, if you lose a bid on parts and facilities, you still get crew tokens. However, if you lose a bid on a mission, you don’t get any crew tokens.
Each player who makes a bid on a mission gets a chance to either complete the mission or pass on it. The winner of the bidding gets the first shot at completing the mission, followed by the player with the second-highest bid, and so on.
I bet you’re wondering how to earn points in the game. Well, I’ll tell you. The first person to finish a mission gets points equal to the full value on the mission card. But don’t worry, if you’re not the first to finish, you still get points. You’ll earn half of the mission’s value, rounded up. So even if you’re not the fastest, you can still earn some well-deserved points.
Now, here’s what happens with the mission card after it’s completed. If at least one person finished the mission, it’s discarded and put back in the game box. But if nobody finished the mission, it stays in play. This means you can try again next turn and have another shot at completing it.
To complete a mission, you’ll need to meet certain requirements. These requirements can be found on the mission cards themselves. Each mission card will have one or more requirements that you need to fulfill in order to complete the mission.
Alright, now that you know how to earn points and how missions work, let’s move on to another aspect of the game called engines.
When certain missions need engines with a specific power, they will display one or more dice of specific values. To fulfill this requirement, you must find engines on your ship that have the same or higher value as the dice listed on the mission card. Remember, each of your engines can only be matched with one mission icon.

Example: So, there was this mission called ‘Colonist Training,’ and three people, John, Lisa, and Sarah, all wanted it. John ended up winning with a bid of 4, while Lisa came in second with a bid of 3, and Sarah came in last with a bid of 1 because she added 1 crew token when she placed her ‘O’ bid.
This mission needed 1 Bio-Tech, and luckily, all three players had that. However, it also required 1 science. John didn’t have any science to pay, so he had to take back his bidding tiles and let everyone know that he couldn’t complete the mission.
Lisa, on the other hand, had 1 science to spare, so she paid it and scored a total of 5 points, which was the full value of the mission. Even though she didn’t have the highest bid, she completed it first, so she still got the full points.
Sarah had a science available to pay, but she would only be getting half value (3 points) for completing the mission. So, she decided not to pay and instead retrieved her bidding dice. She figured she could save that science for some other mission in the future. Smart move, Sarah!
Bio-Tech Explained
When it comes to missions that require Bio-Tech, you’ll notice that they show the total number of Bio-Tech icons needed for the mission. These icons are represented by
. To complete the mission successfully, you need to make sure that the total number of Bio-Tech icons on your ship is equal to or greater than the value indicated on the mission card.
It’s important to note that Bio-Tech is not something that gets used up or exhausted when completing a mission. Instead, it’s simply added up and compared to the requirement of the mission.
Important Notice
Re: Staff Reductions

Here’s something cool I learned: Did you know that you can spend 3 crew tokens to add a special icon just for meeting mission requirements? It’s a neat trick that can help you out during the current round.

Have you ever thought about how you can gain an advantage in a gaming session? Well, I have a suggestion for you that might interest you! It’s about a strategy that allows you to get temporary icons in exchange for crew tokens.
Explaining the Strategy
Let me break it down for you. In the game, you have the option to spend 9 crew tokens to receive 3 temporary icons. These icons can be really helpful in completing missions during this round. However, there is a catch – these temporary icons will be lost once all mission bids have been resolved.
Why You Should Consider This Strategy
Now, you might be wondering why you would even consider using this strategy. Well, let me tell you why it’s worth considering.
First of all, these temporary icons can give you a significant advantage in completing missions. They can give you an edge over your opponents and help you achieve victory. In a game where every move counts, having these temporary icons can make a real difference.
Additionally, using this strategy allows you to make the most out of your crew tokens. Instead of simply using them for basic actions, you can invest them in gaining these temporary icons and elevate your gameplay.
Conclusion
If you’re someone who enjoys strategic gaming and is always looking for new ways to gain an advantage, then this strategy is definitely something you should consider. By spending a few crew tokens, you can acquire temporary icons that can greatly enhance your gameplay. Just remember, these icons will only last until all mission bids have been resolved, so use them wisely!

When it comes to completing scientific missions in Farlight, it’s important to understand the science requirements. Each mission will specify the amount of science needed, and to fulfill that requirement, you’ll need to pay the corresponding amount of science from your supply.
Let’s dive in: In intense games of Farlight, players often take risks by bidding on missions that they are almost capable of completing. The hope is to win bids for the necessary facilities or parts during the Launch Phase, making it possible to complete the mission.
This strategy can be quite daring since other players may catch on to your plan and outbid you for the parts you desperately need. However, sometimes taking a chance and quickly acquiring what you need can lead to victory.
Launching – Round Reset
Once the bidding for all missions has been resolved, it’s time to prepare for the next round. Follow these steps:
If I’ve just finished the climactic mission this round, it’s time to end the game. I’ll place one crew token on each part that’s still on the station. Even if I don’t need a particular part, it’s worth bidding for it to gain the crew on it. Next, I’ll fill any part spaces on the station that became empty during this round. But, if there aren’t enough parts to fill all the spaces, it’s time to wrap things up and end the game.
I’m here to help you understand how to play this game. Let’s break it down step by step.
First, we need to remove all engines from the parts at Farlight Station. Don’t worry, though – the engines on your ship won’t be affected. The youngest player will roll a number of dice equal to the number of engine icons on the board. We’re looking for the highest engine number among all the part cards, and we’ll place the highest die on that icon. Then, we’ll do the same for the second highest engine number and so on, until all the icons have an engine die on them.
Next, the First Player marker will be passed to the left.
If neither game end condition was met, we’ll move on to the next round. This includes bidding, assembling, and launching.
The game will end when one of two conditions are met:
1. A climactic mission is completed.
2. A climactic event occurs.
And that’s it! Now you’re ready to play the game. Have fun!
There’s a little problem I’ve noticed with the refueling station – there aren’t enough parts to refill it. Can you believe that? So, if we want to score industry awards, we’ve got to make sure we address this issue. Speaking of industry awards, they’re pretty cool. Each award is worth 5 points, and if there’s a tie, the points can be divided between the winners. We’ll need to randomly choose three awards for each game. Oh, and by the way, one of the awards is called “Colonist”. So, let’s make sure we’ve got everything in place and let the games begin!

Hey there! Did you know there are special awards in the game called Farlight? One of those awards is called Commander. Another one is Efficiency. There’s also Juggernaut, Potential, Researcher, and Rocketeer. These awards are given to the player who has the most icons on their ship. Sounds cool, right?
Final Scoring
Once you’ve scored all the industry awards, it’s time to do some math. Add up all the crew and science tokens you have, then divide that total by 3, rounding up. Take that number and add it to your score. The player with the highest score is the winner of Farlight! Imagine the excitement!
Oh, and if there happens to be a tie for the highest score, don’t worry. We’ve got a way to break it. We’ll randomly draw one of the unused industry awards, and the lucky winner among the tied players takes the victory. It’s all about luck!
Remember, when the game ends and you’re declared the winner, don’t forget to take a picture with the Victory card – a memento of your epic win in Farlight.
If we find ourselves in a situation where there is still a tie, we can randomly choose another industry award that hasn’t been used yet to break the tie. We repeat this process until we have a winner or we run out of unused awards.
If, even after comparing all the unused award tiles, the players are still tied, then they are truly equals. In this case, their successful organizations merge to form a powerful and lucrative alliance, and both players share the victory.
