Setting Up the Game

Let’s get started by setting up the game. First, place the map in the center of the playing area. Next, each player should collect a set of 45 train cars and their score marker. Place the marker on the start space of the game board. Now, shuffle the train cards and deal four cards to each player. The remaining deck is placed beside the board, and five cards are put face-up next to it.

Don’t forget about the bonus card! Put it beside the board, face-up. To determine the destination ticket cards, one player will shuffle them and deal three cards to each player. Each player must choose at least two destination cards to keep, and they can keep all three if they want. Remember, players can’t share their destination cards. Once everything is set up, the game is ready to begin!

How to Play

When I play this game, I start by making my first move. Then, I pass the turn to the next player in a clockwise direction. It’s important to note that during my turn, I can only choose one action to complete. I can either draw destination tickets, claim a route, or draw train car cards. I can’t do more than one action in a single turn.

Now, if I decide to draw train car cards, I have a few options. I can draw two cards from the deck. I can also choose two cards from the ones that are face up. Alternatively, I can take one card from the face up cards and draw another one from the deck. Just keep in mind that if I take a face up card, I need to replace it with a card from the deck. There’s no limit to the number of cards I can have in my hand.

On the other hand, if I want to claim a route, I have to consider the number of spaces along that route. I need to play cards equal to the number of spaces in order to claim it.

In a nutshell, in this game, we take turns and choose one action to complete – drawing destination tickets, claiming routes, or drawing train car cards. And when it comes to drawing train car cards, I have the option to draw two cards, choose two cards from the face up ones, or take one face up card and draw another one. If I decide to claim a route, I need to play the right number of cards that correspond to the spaces on the route.

If you decide to get some destination ticket cards, you can grab up to three cards from the destination ticket deck. You have to hang on to at least one of them, but you can keep them all if you want. If you’re able to link up the destinations on the cards, you earn points. But if you can’t make the connection, you lose points.
