Dead Last Game Rules
Hey there! If you’re here, it means you’re curious about the game called Dead Last. Well, you’re in the right place because I’m going to give you the lowdown on how to play this exciting game, step by step.
First things first, let’s talk about what you’ll need to play Dead Last. Just grab a group of friends or family members, a deck of playing cards, and a bit of space to gather around a table.
So, how does Dead Last work? The goal of the game is to be the last one standing. Each player is secretly assigned a character card at the beginning of the game, which determines their role and special abilities. You can only show your character card to the players sitting on either side of you, but keep it hidden from everyone else.
To kick things off, the game is played in rounds. In each round, players take turns playing a numbered card from their hand face down. The twist is that each player can only play one card of each number per round, and a player can bluff by playing a card that doesn’t match their actual choice.
This is where the strategy comes in. You need to observe the other players and try to figure out who they’re going to target with their cards. Will they target you? or maybe someone else? It’s a real mind game! After all the cards have been played, it’s time for the big reveal.
If you’re the only player who played the highest-numbered card, congratulations! You’ve successfully eliminated another player from the game. But don’t get too comfortable, because if two or more players played the same highest-numbered card, they cancel each other out, and you’ll have to hold your breath for another round.
Now, let’s talk about alliances. During the game, you can form alliances with other players. This can be a real game-changer, as alliances allow you to share information and increase your chances of survival. Just keep in mind that alliances can be fragile, and loyalty can change in an instant.
That’s pretty much all there is to it! Keep playing rounds and eliminating players until there’s only one person left standing. The winner is the last player standing at the end of the game.
So go ahead, gather your crew and get ready for a thrilling game of Dead Last. Remember, it’s all about strategy, observation, and a little bit of luck. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Hey there! Let me tell you about a super cool game called DEAD LAST. It’s all about alliances, betrayals, and murder (don’t worry, it’s just pretend!) where you and a bunch of sneaky friends get to conspire and vote on who to eliminate each round. The goal? To be the last player standing and gather as much gold as possible. Sounds exciting, right?
The best part is, you can communicate with your fellow players in any way you want. You can use glances, nods, pointing fingers, or even flash your cards secretly. But watch out! You don’t want to give away your plans to the person you’re targeting, or they might turn the tables on you and take you out instead!
What’s Inside the Box?
The game contains several components that make it fun and engaging. Here’s what you can expect to find when you open the box:
- 12 Player ID cards and stands: Each player gets their own ID card and a stand to hold it.
- 12 sets of 12 Voting cards: These cards are used to cast votes during the game.
- 2 sets of 3 Final Showdown cards: The Final Showdown cards play a pivotal role in determining the winner.
- 80 Gold Bar cards: These cards represent currency in the game.
- Organizing Tray: The organizing tray helps keep all the cards and components neat and tidy.
- Rulebook: The rulebook provides instructions on how to play the game.
Setting Up the Game
Now that you know what’s inside the box, it’s time to set up the game and get ready to play.

- To start the game, I need to take a Player ID card and put it in front of me. This card will show my color and help everyone keep track of who I am.
- Next, I will get a set of Voting cards that match my Player ID card. If there are any extra cards for colors that aren’t being used, I’ll put them away for now.
- Now, let’s set up the Gold Bar deck by placing it face down on the table. We’ll deal four cards to the center, but keep their values hidden.
- We’ll also set aside the Final Showdown Cards for later in the game.
Let’s Play
We’ll play the game in rounds. Each round has a series of votes, where we all decide who to murder. At the end of each round, the survivor(s) will get Gold Bars. There are three ways a round can end:

I’ve got some important information to share with you about the game. Here’s how it works:
- There are three possible outcomes after a round:
- Only one player survives and takes all four Gold Bars.
- Two players survive and face off in a Final Showdown.
- No players survive, so nobody gets the four Gold Bars. Instead, all players who weren’t involved in the last Vote get one Gold Bar from the deck.
- Note: If nobody survives, no new gold is added for the next round.
- The game continues until a player reveals that they’ve collected enough Gold Bar points to win. For 6-9 players, it’s 25 points. For 10-12 players, it’s 24 points.
- If more than one player has enough gold to win, the player with the highest point total wins. If there’s still a tie, the tied players have another Final Showdown until one player has the highest gold point total.
And that’s the basics of how the game works! There’s one more thing I want to tell you about: Conspire.
So, right before each vote, we all huddle up and start planning, but we’ve got to be quick about it, no more than a minute and a half. We’re all trying to convince each other to vote the same way or join forces with someone else’s plan. The key is to be part of the biggest group voting for the same person, that’s where the power lies.
There are no limits to how we can communicate with each other for this. We can be sneaky or straightforward, it’s up to us. We can point secretly under the table or give a glance in someone’s direction. We can even call someone out or flash our Voting card at others. Whispering, texting, or plotting when someone steps out of the room – it’s all fair game. But you’ve got to watch your back because if someone figures out that you’re targeting them, they might turn the tables on you. So tread carefully, my friend.
The Big Vote
Once we’ve done all our plotting and scheming, it’s time to make a decision and cast our votes. Some players might feel unsure about committing to a vote because they missed out on what others were up to. So, as the game owner, I’m going to ask everyone to make their final decisions now.
Here’s the thing – if you don’t know who the target is, well, it might just be you!
When it’s time to vote, all players need to place their voting card, which matches the player ID card of the person they want to eliminate, face down in front of them. There’s no specific order for this, and yes, you can change your vote until the votes are revealed.
Now, if you have a sneaky suspicion that you’re the target, you can defend yourself by playing your ambush card instead of choosing someone else’s card. Once all the players have placed their voting cards, we’ll reveal the choices at the same time and see how things turn out.

- There’s a game called The Target where we vote for the player who gets eliminated.
- If two or more players have the same number of votes, they all get eliminated.
- If you didn’t vote for anyone, you also get eliminated.
We knock down the ID cards for the players who got eliminated, so only the ones who survived remain standing for the next Vote.
Yeah, it’s a dangerous game. You’ll die quickly and often. But don’t worry, you’ll be back for the next round soon – and while you’re gone, they’ll definitely be plotting against you!

For Example: Red and Emerald both received the highest number of votes and were eliminated as a result.
Furthermore, anyone who didn’t vote for Red or Emerald was also eliminated. This means that only 5 out of the original 10 players remain after the initial Vote.
Ambush: If a player used their Ambush card and received enough votes to be considered a Target, they are not eliminated. Instead, they get to choose one of the players who voted for them, and eliminate that player.
However, if a player used their Ambush card but was not a Target, they have eliminated themselves from the game.
Important: When counting the votes, Ambush cards are not taken into account.

The vote is in, and we have a tie. One person voted for Red, and one person voted for Yellow. These two colors are now the targets of the vote. However, the Ambush card does not count as a vote. As a result, Yellow is eliminated from the competition.
Now let’s talk about Red. Despite receiving a vote, Red played the Ambush card and avoided elimination. But here’s the catch: Red can only choose to get rid of a player who voted for her. So, the players left standing are Red and Pink. The fate of the game hangs in the balance, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.

So, here’s what I’ve figured out: we had a vote, and it looks like the majority went for Blue. With 4 votes in favor of Blue and only 3 for Purple, Blue is the one we’re targeting.
Now, let’s get to the consequences. Anyone who didn’t vote for Blue is out of the game. They’re eliminated.
Here’s where things get interesting. Emerald tried to pull off an ambush, but it didn’t work out for him this time. Even though he played his ambush card, he’s not the target. So he’s also eliminated. Blue, on the other hand, played the ambush card and she is the target. But, instead of being eliminated, she gets to do something special. She has the power to eliminate a player who voted for her.
Now it’s time for the final showdown.

So, here’s the deal. Remember how I told you that if only two players manage to stay alive until the end, they have to go at it in a Final Showdown? That’s right, it’s like the ultimate showdown to decide who’s the winner.
During this Final Showdown, the two remaining players get a set of special cards that they can use. And guess what? They have three options to choose from:
Let’s say we have 4 Gold Bars that we want to split among ourselves. I propose that we divide them equally, giving each of us 2 bars.
I have a challenge for you. What if I told you that there are 4 Gold Bars waiting to be claimed? It’s a bit like a treasure hunt. But here’s the twist – you’ll be up against me, and only one of us can take home all the gold.
Hey there! Want to know how to guarantee yourself 1 Gold Bar and give 3 to your opponent? Well, I’ve got the lowdown for you. So, here’s how it goes.
First, you and your opponent need to have a little chat. You have to convince each other that you’ll actually do what you say you will. Trust is key here, folks.
Once the trust is established, it’s time to make a move. You and your opponent each choose one of the three Final Showdown cards. But here’s the catch – you keep it secret and place it face down.
Okay, now comes the exciting part. Are you ready? You and your opponent reveal your choices at the same time! Big moment, right?
Now, let’s see what happens next. The Showdown is resolved, and you get your Gold Bar plus three to give away to your opponent. It’s a win-win situation, my friend!
I want to share an important note with you about the game. I’ll keep it short and explain the rules in simple terms, so don’t worry if you’re not familiar with all the terms.
First off, let’s talk about the STEAL/STEAL situation. Here’s what happens: if two players choose to steal in the Showdown, they both get nothing. Yep, you heard me right. It’s kind of a bummer, but at least the gold stays on the table for the next round. As for the other players, they each get one gold from the deck.
Now, let’s move on to the double GRAB ONE & GO. In this situation, each player only gets one gold, and two gold are left behind for the next round. So, when it’s time to draw new gold, just take two from the deck.
Finally, let’s talk about the end of the game. No matter how the round ends, it’s time to tally up your points if you received any Gold Bars. The bars are worth different points, ranging from 3 to 5. So, if you have 7 or 8 bars, chances are you’ve won the game!
But wait, there’s one more way to win. If a player has claimed 25 points worth of Gold (or 24 in a 10-12 player game), they’re the winner! So keep an eye on those points as you play.
I hope this helps you understand the game better. Have fun and good luck!
