Hey there! Did you know that there are 33 different Standard buildings? Pretty cool, right? However, depending on how many players there are, not all of the buildings will be used. Let me break it down for you: we have 9 Craftsman’s buildings, 6 Economic buildings, 10 Industrial buildings, 4 Public buildings, and 4 Non-buildings. Now, let’s talk about the Fishermen and Hammers. There are a total of 6 Fishermen and 8 Hammers spread across all of these buildings.

Now, let me introduce you to the Abattoir.

This building is ranked with a C and has a sort order of 09. To get this building, you’ll need to pay an entry fee of 2 Francs, and gather 1 wood, 1 clay, and 1 iron for the building materials. But what exactly does the Abattoir do? Well, it allows you to upgrade your cattle to meat by flipping over tokens. Want to know something even better? For every 2 cattle you slaughter, you’ll receive 1 hide (rounding down). These hides can later be turned into leather, so don’t forget about them!

Now, let’s move on to the Arts Center.

In this game, you have different buildings with specific roles and benefits. Let me tell you about two of them!

Arts Center

As a player, one of the buildings you can have is the Arts Center. It costs 1 food and 1 wood and 1 clay to build. It is a valuable asset, and whenever another player occupies one of your buildings, you earn 4 Francs from the Treasury. But remember, your own person token doesn’t count! It’s important for new players to know that they should look for opportunities to earn 8 or more Francs during the game so they don’t miss out. However, keep in mind that the Arts Center is only available when you have 4 or more players. In games with fewer players, it wouldn’t be as effective.

Bakehouse

Another building you can have is the Bakehouse. To build it, you need 1 food and 2 clay. Once you have it, you can upgrade your grain to bread by turning the grain tokens over. It’s important to note that each bread baked costs half an energy, rounded up. For example, if you want to bake 3 bread, you’ll need 2 energy. So make sure to plan your resources wisely!

When I bake 2 breads, I get a subsidy of 1 Franc. So, if I want, I can bake a maximum of 20 breads using just 1 coke.

Let’s talk about the Bank now. This building doesn’t allow any actions, but its value depends on the other buildings that its owner has. Here’s the interesting part: each Industrial building owned increases the Bank’s value by 3 Francs. And guess what? Each Economic building, including the Bank itself, adds 2 Francs to its value too.

It’s worth noting that the Bank is the only building in the game that requires steel to be built. This makes the Bank and the Town Hall important reasons why you should invest your money instead of saving it. You can do this by buying Industrial and Economic buildings.

Now let’s move on to the Black Market. It’s an exciting place. The Black Market has a value of 2 and you need to pay an entry fee of 1 food to access it.

That’s all you need to know about these buildings. Happy gaming!

Hey there! Did you know that you can’t build the Black Market in the game? Instead, you can buy it and take advantage of its goods. When you visit the Black Market, you can grab two of each good that is available in its Offer space. This includes 1 Franc coins, fish, wood, clay, iron, grain, and cattle. However, you won’t be able to get 5 Franc coins, coal, hides, or upgraded goods from the Black Market. Keep that in mind!

Remember: If the Black Market is at the top of one of the piles at the beginning of the game, it’s a good idea to shuffle the building cards and lay them out again. This will prevent any unfair advantage for the starting player. The frequency of using the Black Market depends on when it enters the game. If you’re new to the game, make sure to be aware of opportunities where you can get 4 or more goods from the Black Market. You don’t want to miss out on those!

Brickworks

I’m a 5th grader and I want to tell you about a game I’m playing. It’s called “Sort Order 14” and it costs 1 food to play. To build things in the game, we need 2 wood, 1 clay, and 1 iron.

Now, here’s a cool trick I learned. In the game, we can turn over clay tokens to make bricks. Each brick costs some energy, and the cost goes up depending on how many bricks we want to make. For example, making 1 or 2 bricks only costs 1 energy. Making 3 or 4 bricks costs 2 energy. And making 5 or 6 bricks costs 3 energy. It’s kind of like a puzzle!

Oh, and there’s a bonus! Every time we make 2 bricks, we get 1 Franc as a reward. So if we make 2 or 3 bricks, we get 1 Franc. If we make 4 or 5 bricks, we get 2 Francs. And so on. It’s like getting a prize for playing the game!

There’s another place in the game where we can get bricks, too. It’s called the Hardware Store. How cool is that? We have different options to get bricks and build things!

Now let’s talk about a different game called “Bridge Over The Seine”. This one costs 2 Francs to play, and we need 3 iron to build things.

In this game, we can sell the goods we have. We can sell upgraded goods and regular goods, as long as we have 3 of them. For each upgraded good we sell, we get 1 Franc, and for any combination of 3 regular goods, we also get 1 Franc. It’s like making money just by playing the game!

The image on the Building card showcases the impressive Pont de Normandie in the picturesque town of Le Havre. This iconic bridge over the Seine River serves a unique purpose in the game – it allows players to sell any remaining goods at the end of their journey.

Building Firms – A Gateway to Construction

Building Firms play a vital role in the game, acting as the starting point for players to embark on their construction ventures. There are two Building Firms available, each with a value of 4/6. To gain access to a Building Firm, players must pay an entry fee of 1 food and 1 Hammer.

These Starting buildings enable players to construct various buildings, excluding ships. By utilizing a Building Firm, players can choose one of the three buildings displayed at the top of the Building Proposals piles. It’s important to note that Town-owned buildings cannot be constructed, as they have already been built and are only available for purchase. You can find further details on Building Firms and their usage in the game rules, under the section “Constructing new Buildings” in the “Building Buildings and Ships” section.

Business Office – A Hub of Opportunities

When you’re playing the game, there are certain buildings and resources that you need to understand. I want to tell you about a few of them.

Business Office

This is a really important building. When you go there, you can exchange 4 goods of your choice for 1 steel. It doesn’t matter if the goods are upgraded or not. But remember, Francs don’t count as goods. You also have the option to exchange 1 good for either 1 charcoal, 1 leather, or 1 brick. It’s up to you what you choose.

You can use 1 Hammer and 1 Fisherman to enter the Business Office. It’s worth going there because with just 2 trips, you can collect enough steel to build a valuable Steel ship.

Charcoal Kiln

Here’s another building you should know about. It’s called the Charcoal Kiln. To use it, you need 1 clay to build it. Once it’s built, you can upgrade as much wood as you want and turn it into charcoal. You don’t have to convert all the wood at once – it’s up to you how much you want to convert. The best part is that you don’t need any energy to create charcoal because the process creates its own energy.

Church

I learned that there are three unique buildings in the game Le Havre: the Church, the Clay Mound, and the Cokery. Each of these buildings comes with its own set of rules and benefits.

Let’s start with the Church. To enter the Church, you need to have at least 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Once inside, you will receive an extra 5 bread and 3 fish. It’s like a miracle! The Church building card showcases Le Havre’s Church of St Joseph and the action it represents is the Biblical story of the Feeding of the Multitude.

Next, we have the Clay Mound. Unlike the other buildings, the Clay Mound cannot be built. Instead, it can only be bought. When you enter the Clay Mound, you will receive 3 clay from the supply. But that’s not all! You also get an additional 1 clay for each hammer shown on your building cards.

Finally, we have the Cokery. To build the Cokery, you need 1 Franc, 2 brick, and 2 iron. Once constructed, it will be worth 18 points. However, before you can build it, you need to pay an entry fee of 1 Franc. The Cokery is a great addition to your buildings, as it allows you to convert resources into more valuable goods.

So, there you have it! The Church, the Clay Mound, and the Cokery are three fascinating buildings in Le Havre that offer unique benefits and add depth to your gameplay. Now, it’s time to strategize and see how you can use these buildings to your advantage. Enjoy the game!

When you play the game, you have the option to upgrade some of your coal to coke. This is done by flipping over the tokens. Whenever you create coke, you get a subsidy of 1 Franc. Each coke provides you with 10 units of energy.

Mostly, you will need coke to move ships or to make steel. The good thing is that you don’t need any energy to produce coke. In fact, the process of making coke generates its own energy.

What About Colliery?

Colliery is a special place in the game. It is marked as Sort order 16 and has a value of 10. To enter the colliery, you need to pay an entry fee of 2 food and have 1 wood and 3 clay as building materials.

When you enter the colliery, you will receive 3 coal from the supply. If you have at least one Hammer in your building cards, you will also get an extra coal. However, having more than one hammer won’t get you any additional coal.

Tip: Did you know that having a Hammer is crucial for every player in The Colliery? You can easily get one by purchasing it from one of the Building Firms or the Construction Firm. And guess what? The Marketplace is another great place to find coal! Oh, and don’t forget about the Charcoal Burner’s and the Cokery. They can provide you with extra energy too!

Construction Firm

(Hey, guess what? I’ve got some cool news for you! There’s this awesome thing called the Construction Firm. It’s like a starting point for building amazing stuff. It’s worth 8 points and you can get in for just 2 food and 1 Hammer. Isn’t that amazing? I think so!)

The Construction Firm is like a starting point for a building project. It lets me build up to two buildings from the Building Proposals list, one after another. I can’t build ships though, just buildings. I can choose both buildings from the same list if I want. I can even use the Construction Firm to build one building first, then use another turn to buy the next building, and finally use the Construction Firm to build the third building from the same list. But I can’t build any buildings that already belong to the Town, because those are already built and can only be bought.

If I need more information about the Construction Firm and how to construct new buildings, I can check out the game rules. They explain it under the “Constructing new Buildings” section in the “Building Buildings and Ships” part of the rules.

Dock

The Dock is a building with a sort order of 26. It’s worth 10 points and costs 24 in resources. To build it, I need 1 wood, 2 bricks, and 2 iron.

You can’t take any action at the Dock. When the game ends, the Dock’s value depends on how many ships you own. Each Ship card, no matter what type, increases the Dock’s value by 4 Francs. The Dock is only used when there are 4 or more players; it would be too powerful otherwise.

Fishery

(C, Sort order 03, Value 10, No entry fee, Building material: 1 wood and 1 clay, 1 Fisherman).

You get 3 fish from the supply. Plus, you get an extra fish for each Fisherman shown on your building cards. The Fishery card itself has a fisherman.

Grocery Market

(E, Sort order 19, Value 10, Entry fee: 1 Franc, Building material: 1 wood and 1 brick).

When you visit the Grocery Market, you’ll get a variety of goods to stock up on. From the supply, you’ll receive 1 cattle, 1 meat, 1 fish, 1 smoked fish, 1 grain, and 1 bread. These items are worth a total of 8 food and can be upgraded if you desire.

Now, let’s explore the Hardware Store.

At the Hardware Store, you can find all sorts of useful materials and tools. It’s an essential stop for any builder. To enter, you need to pay 1 food and gather 3 wood, 1 clay, 1 hammer, and 1 fisherman. In return, you’ll receive 1 wood, 1 brick, and 1 iron from the store. The brick is particularly important because it’s needed to modernize a Wharf and construct the Tannery and the Grocery Market. Don’t forget, the Brickworks is another place where you can get bricks. The Ironworks is another great option for those in need of iron. To enter the Ironworks, you must pay either 3 food or 1 Franc. In addition, you’ll need 1 wood, 2 bricks, and 1 hammer. The value of the materials you’ll find there is 12.

When you play the game, you get 3 pieces of iron from the supply. If you need more, you can spend 6 energy to get an extra piece. It’s a bit expensive, but sometimes you really need that extra iron to build an Iron ship.

The Workshop

(C, Sort Order 04, Value 8, Entry Fee: 1 food, Building Material: 3 wood, 1 Hammer).

You give 1 to 3 pieces of wood to the supply and get 5 to 7 Francs from the Treasury. This can be a helpful way to get money early on in the game, especially if you want to buy a Wooden ship.

The Local Court

(P, Sort Order 15, Value 16, No Entry Fee, Building Material: 3 wood and 2 clay).

When playing the game, I have the option to give back 1 or 2 Loan cards without having to pay anything for them. If I only have 1 loan, I can return it. If I have exactly 2 loans, I return 1 and get 2 Francs from the Treasury. Now, if I have 3 or more loans, I return 2 of them. But if I want, I can choose to only return 1 loan and receive the 2 Francs instead. Even if I have 5 or more loans, I can still have a chance to win the game with the assistance of the Local Court. This special card is only used when there are 3 or more players (or 5 players in the shortened version). When there are fewer players, each of us will send out enough goods to easily repay any loans.

Marketplace

(This is a special area in the game. It is identified as “N” and has a sorting order of 01. Its value is 6, and to enter it, I need to pay either 2 pieces of food or 1 Franc. For a building material, I need 2 units of wood).

When you play the game, you get to choose two different standard goods from the Supply spaces. You can’t choose from the Offer space! You’ll know which goods are standard because they have a special border on their tokens. There are lots of standard goods to choose from, like fish, wood, clay, iron, grain, cattle, hides, and coal. If you own Craftsman’s buildings, you can choose one extra standard good for each building you have. But remember, you can’t choose more than one of the same kind of good. So in total, you can have up to 8 goods.

After you choose your goods, you can look at the top two cards in the Special buildings pile. You can put them back in any order you want. The Special buildings space always has at least one card. This is important because it lets you use the Marketplace. You can change the order of the buildings all the way to the end of the game. This means the next player can start their turn while you’re still looking at the Special buildings.

Sawmill: Crafting with Wood Made Easier

Hey there! Today, I want to talk about an important building in our game called the Sawmill. Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

The Sawmill is pretty similar to the Building Firm, but with a slight twist. Unlike the Building Firm, the Sawmill allows you to construct buildings, but not ships. It’s easy to spot, with its name displayed on a vibrant green background, just like the Building Firm and Construction Firm.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. With the Sawmill, you can build one of the three amazing buildings from the top of the Building Proposals pile, but there’s a catch – your chosen building must be made using at least one wood. Here’s the beauty of it all: when you use the Sawmill, you only need to pay one less wood than what’s normally required. Pretty cool, right?

Just remember, my friend, you can’t build a building that already belongs to the Town. Those are off-limits, as they’ve already been constructed and are only available for purchase.

Tip: The Sawmill comes in handy during the early stages of the game when you need some extra cash to buy a Wooden ship. It’s a double win if you also plan to get a Fishery or a Charcoal Kiln.

Shipping Line: Sail the Seas with Confidence

(E, Sort order 18, Value 10, Entry fee: 2 food, Building material: 2 wood and 3 brick, 1 Fisherman).

I pay 3 energy for each ship I want to use to ship goods. My wooden ships can ship 2 goods, iron ships can ship 3, and steel ships can ship 4. Unfortunately, luxury liners can’t be used to ship goods.

When I ship meat, smoked fish, charcoal, hides, bricks, or iron, I earn 2 Francs for each. But if I ship cattle, bread, or coal, I earn 3 Francs. If I ship leather, I earn 4 Francs. For coke, I get 5 Francs, and for steel, I earn a whopping 8 Francs. Any other goods I ship will earn me 1 Franc each. I can see how much I’ll earn on the Shipping Line card and on each goods token (bottom right).

When you’re a player and you want to ship goods using multiple ships, you don’t need to pay the energy costs separately for each ship. You can pay all the energy costs together. It’s common for players to use 1 coke, which has an energy value of 10, to provide energy for 3 ships. The most commonly shipped goods are leather, cattle, bread, coke, and brick. Each type of ship can carry any kind of good. You can ship several of the same good or different goods on a single ship.

Smokehouse

The smokehouse is represented by the letter ‘C’ and has a sort order of 08. Its value is 6, and you need to pay an entry fee of 2 food or 1 Franc. To build the smokehouse, you’ll need 2 wood, 1 clay, and 1 fisherman.

When you play the game, you have the option to turn over up to 6 fish tokens and upgrade them to smoked fish. The best part is that it only costs you 1 energy, no matter how many fish you upgrade. And here’s the cool part: for every 2 fish that you smoke, you’ll get a 1 Franc subsidy (but rounded down). So if you smoke 2 or 3 fish, you’ll get 1 Franc. If you smoke 4 or 5 fish, you’ll get 2 Francs, and so on.

The Steel Mill

At the Steel Mill, you have the chance to upgrade your iron tokens to steel. And the cost? Only 5 energy for each iron. If you decide to upgrade more than one iron at once, you can pay the energy costs together – you don’t have to pay separately for each upgrade. Normally, you’ll use coke to pay for the energy costs. But keep in mind, the Business Office also has a deal for you to get steel!

The Storehouse

(Hey there! Let’s talk about some interesting buildings in the game. I’ll explain what they do and why they’re important. Ready? Let’s go!)

Storehouse

(So, there’s this building called the Storehouse. It costs 10 Francs and requires 2 wood and 2 brick, plus 1 Hammer to build.)

(The Storehouse is pretty special because it doesn’t have any actions. It’s just there to store your goods. But here’s the cool part: at the end of the game, the Storehouse’s value depends on how many goods tokens you have. Each standard or upgraded goods token increases the Storehouse’s value by a certain amount of Francs. Pretty neat, right? Just remember, if you end up with a fraction, round it down.)

(Now, here’s something interesting. The Storehouse is only included in games with 4 or more players. Why? Because in games with fewer players, the Storehouse would be too powerful. So make sure you have enough players if you want to use the Storehouse in your game!)

Tannery

(Next up, we have the Tannery. It’s a cool building that costs 12 Francs and requires 1 wood and 1 brick to build.)

(The Tannery lets you turn hides into leather. You can upgrade up to 4 hides by flipping the tokens over. And here’s the best part: for every hide that you tan, you get a subsidy of 1 Franc. That’s some extra money in your pocket, right there!)

(Oh, and did I mention that there are some special buildings that let you sell leather for a good profit? Yeah, there are 4 of them in the game. So if you’re lucky enough to have a Tannery, you can make even more money by selling that leather!)

Town Hall

The Town Hall is a significant building in the game, responsible for determining your overall value at the end. Its worth is directly influenced by the other buildings you own. Each Public building, including the Town Hall itself, adds 4 Francs to its value. Additionally, each Craftsman’s building contributes an extra 2 Francs. Thus, the Town Hall and the Bank incentivize you to invest rather than save your money. One way to do this is by purchasing Public and Craftsman’s buildings.

Next, let’s talk about the Wharf, a building that plays a crucial role in the game. There are two Wharves available, and they are ranked 12th and 17th in terms of importance. This building has a value of 14 and requires an entry fee of 2 food. To construct the Wharf, you will need 2 wood, 2 clay, and 2 iron. It is also possible to modernize the Wharf.
