Tell Tale Game Rules
Let’s talk about the rules of the Tell Tale game. I’ll guide you through the basics so you can start playing in no time.
First of all, this game is all about storytelling. The goal is to create your own unique stories by using the beautifully illustrated cards provided. Each card contains a different picture or scene that can inspire your imagination.
To play, you’ll need at least two players. The game begins by shuffling the deck of cards and placing them face-down in the middle of the playing area. The youngest player goes first, and play continues clockwise.
On your turn, you’ll need to select a card from the deck. Take a moment to carefully examine the picture on the card and let it spark your creativity. Now it’s time to tell a story based on the image you see.
As you start telling your story, make sure to incorporate the elements and characters from the picture. The more details you add, the more captivating your story becomes. Let your imagination run wild and let the card guide you through the narrative.
Once you have finished telling your story, it’s time to pass on the storytelling to the next player. They will then select a card and continue the narrative based on the new image. The game keeps going until all players have had a chance to contribute to the storytelling.
Remember, there are no right or wrong answers in this game. It’s all about using your creativity and imagination to come up with compelling stories. The cards are there to inspire you and help you build your own tale.

Let’s come up with some amazing stories using these image cards as prompts.
Countless Stories at Your Fingertips
Tell Tale is more than just a game; it’s a whole new way to experience storytelling. Grab a few cards, arrange them in any order you like, and let your imagination run wild. Here are two suggestions on how you can use Tell Tale to create your own stories.
Story Time
Bedtime Stories: Choose a handful of cards (let’s say 10) and give them to your parent or guardian. They will use these cards to weave a one-of-a-kind bedtime story just for you.
You can either hand over all the cards at once or give them one by one in the sequence you prefer. Your grown-up will make up a story based on the cards you’ve chosen, or you can even join forces and tell the story together.
Let’s create a story of our own: Pick out some cards that catch your eye and let’s weave together an extraordinary, hilarious, or spooky tale!
Game Play
Let me tell you about this super cool game! You can play it alone or with a friend, which makes it even more awesome.
First things first, this game isn’t about winning or losing. It’s all about having a blast and being creative!
There are 4 game variations for you to try, but don’t be afraid to invent your own!
Tips: When you play this game, the youngest player gets to go first. It’s really fun because you can make up a story using any style and genre you want. And the best part is, with the image cards, your story can change quickly and easily!
Don’t know how to get started? Here’s a trick: think of an exciting beginning that will grab everyone’s attention. For example, you could start with “Once upon a time, a brave boy ventured into a spooky forest.” Or maybe you could say, “Did you hear about the zoo that had magical animals?” Another idea is to say, “Get ready to hear a story that’s hard to believe!”
Note: Before you start a new game, make sure to put all the cards back in the deck and shuffle them up. That way, each game is full of surprises!
Game 1: Round ‘n Round
This game is the perfect way for everyone to learn how to play Tell Tale.
First, we each take 4 cards and put them face down in front of us. No peeking allowed! If I’m the first player, I’ll flip over the top card and start telling a story based on that image. Then, my neighbor flips over their top card and continues the story.
We keep going like this until we’ve used up all the cards.
If we play in teams of 2: Each team takes 6 cards. Our turns alternate between telling our shared stories, and each person takes turns within their team.
Game 2: Showtime
Each of us gets 6 cards, which we place face down in front of us without peeking.
When it’s my turn, I’ll flip over the first image card and start telling a story based on what I see.
Let’s keep the excitement going by flipping our cards and using the images to create a story!
Each of us will take turns telling a tale using the cards.
If we’re playing in teams of 2: We can take turns telling the story, with one team member reading the first card and the other reading the second, and so on.
Game 3: Storyboard
Now, let’s each grab 6 cards and arrange them in the order we want for our story (you can use either side of the cards).
We’ll take turns and improvise a story using the 6 images on our cards, following the order we’ve chosen.
If we’re playing in teams of 2: We’ll create the storyboard together and then take turns telling the story, with one team member reading the first card and the other reading the second, and so on.
