When I woke up, I found myself in a strange forest, surrounded by the remains of a horrible plane accident. The first thing on my mind was survival, and I knew I had to work together with others in order to make it through until help arrived.

The Basic Building Blocks

  • There are 103 Forage cards
  • There are 41 Night cards
  • There are 20 Madness cards
  • There are 20 Craft & Guides cards
  • There are 9 Wreckage cards
  • There is 1 Fire Token
  • There are 36 Heart Tokens

Setting Up the Game

First, we need to separate the cards into their corresponding decks and shuffle them. After that, we’ll place the Forage and Madness decks face down in the middle of our group.

Each player will be dealt 1 Wreckage card and 1 Crafting Guide card, and these cards should be placed face up in front of them. We can keep the Craft cards in the box for now, since we won’t be needing them just yet.

Next, we’ll decide on the number of Nights we want to try and survive. After making our decision, we’ll take that number of Night cards and place them face down in a pile at the center of our group. Lastly, we’ll find “The Rescue” card and shuffle it into the last 3 Night cards, which are all located at the bottom of the deck.

Difficulty in this game is decided by how many Night cards you choose to play with. Here are some recommendations:

  • If you’re a beginner, play with 8 Night cards.
  • For a normal challenge, play with 12 Night cards.
  • If you want a difficult game, play with 16 or more Night cards.

At the start, place the Fire token in the center of the group, face down. This means the Fire is out. Each player should receive 6 Heart tokens.

Each player should put 3 heart-side-up tokens in front of them. Then, take the remaining 3 Heart tokens, shake them like dice, and throw them onto the table. This roll will determine each player’s starting health after the crash. Keep your tokens visible in front of you at all times.

Round Cycle

The game begins by drawing a night card.

My Day

Today is an important day for me. It’s a new day full of opportunities, and I’m excited to see what it has in store for me. I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.

First, I start my morning routine by stretching and getting some exercise. It’s important to take care of my body and stay active. After that, I take a shower and get dressed for the day ahead.

Next, I enjoy a nutritious breakfast to fuel my body and mind. It’s important to start the day with a healthy meal to keep my energy levels up. As I eat, I reflect on my goals and plan for the day ahead.

Now it’s time to start my day. I have a to-do list of tasks and projects that I need to complete. I prioritize my tasks and tackle them one by one. It’s important to stay focused and organized to be productive.

Throughout the day, I take breaks to rest and recharge. I make sure to drink plenty of water and eat healthy snacks to keep my energy levels up. It’s important to listen to my body and give it the care it needs.

As the day goes on, I complete my tasks and make progress towards my goals. It’s a rewarding feeling to see my hard work pay off. I know that each task I complete brings me closer to achieving my dreams.

In the evening, I wind down and relax. I take some time for myself to do things I enjoy, like reading a book or listening to music. It’s important to take care of my mental health and find joy in the little things.

Finally, it’s time for bed. I make sure to get enough sleep so that I can wake up refreshed and ready for another day. It’s important to prioritize rest and give my body the time it needs to regenerate and recover.

Overall, my day is filled with purpose and meaning. I embrace each moment and make the most of it. It’s important to cherish each day and find gratitude in the simple joys of life. By following this routine, I can create a day that is fulfilling and brings me closer to my goals.

In the game, we go out and search for food and supplies by Foraging. Once we come back to camp, we have the option to eat the food we found and use the supplies we gathered to make items that will help us stay safe during the Night.

What is Foraging?

Every day, we each get one chance to Forage. We all do this at the same time. To Forage, we flip over a full Heart and in return, we get a Forage card. For example, if we have 2 Hearts, we can get 2 Forage cards.

Forage Cards

We can only turn over a maximum of 3 Hearts per person at once. If we have a Basket, we get an extra Forage card. We have to wait until everyone is back at camp to see what cards we got. We can choose to share what we found with everyone or keep it a secret.

When playing the game, there are different ways for me to replenish my health. One option is to rest, but it’s important to keep in mind that resting alone doesn’t increase my health. It simply allows me to take a break without any health benefits.

Note: It’s crucial to find food during my final Heart. If I fail to discover any food, I will die.

After I find food, I have the flexibility to decide how to use it. I can choose to use the food cards on my own or share them with my teammates. I can also trade them with others or save them for later if I want to. However, it’s important to remember that all forage cards can only be used once and are discarded after.

Types of Forage Cards

Food

Food cards are crucial for restoring my health. The number of Heart icons at the bottom of each card indicates how much health I can regain by eating it.

If I find a food card that has 2 or more Heart icons, I can divide the health regeneration between multiple players. For example, a food card with 2 Heart icons can give 1 Heart to two different players.

Hey there! Just a quick heads up: you can’t have a snack during an event or at night. It won’t do you any good – trust me, munching on some blackberries while being attacked by a cougar won’t save your life or keep you from going crazy right after.

Oopsie-daisy!

The Ravine is a pretty creepy place, full of danger and all sorts of risks. When you’re busy searching, you might stumble upon mushrooms, run into wild animals, or come across other mysterious things.

Be aware that the effects on these cards happen right away. You can protect yourself, but you’ve got to have the right item in your hand when it goes down. And remember, your fellow players can’t do anything to save you.

Bone Pile

Collect 4 Bone Pile cards and arrange them to make a circle of bones. When you do this, you’ll unlock the special powers of the island.

Once the circle is complete, you can bring a dead player back to life (if there’s one). They’ll start with 3 Hearts. Plus, all the living players get an extra 2 Hearts.

Crafting

Did you know that you can use wood, fiber, and stone to create all sorts of useful items for survival? It’s pretty amazing what you can do with just a few materials!

When you craft something, you get to take the corresponding card from the box. Just keep in mind that if an item is single-use, you’ll have to discard it after you’ve used it. So make every use count!

Craft Cards

Fire (7 Wood)

Ah, the cozy warmth of a crackling fire. Not only does it keep you warm and comfortable, but it also repels animals. Just remember, a fire only lasts through the night and goes out in the morning before you start foraging for the day.

Pro tip: Some Night Cards can prevent you from lighting a fire until the next day. Keep an eye out for those!

Spear (7 Wood + 7 Stone)

Need some extra protection? A sturdy spear can fend off any animal or human attack. It’s your trusty companion that’ll have your back when you’re in a tight spot. Just remember, it’s a one-time use, so use it wisely!

Basket (7 Wood + 2 Fiber)

Want to carry more of your precious resources? A handy basket made of wood and fiber can help you out. It’s perfect for gathering and storing items on your journey. Plus, it’s reusable, so you can always count on it!

Hey there! Have you heard about the wonderful Basket item in our game? It’s a real game-changer!

Using the Basket allows me to draw an extra Forage card every single day. How awesome is that? All I have to do is flip one of my Heart cards!

Now, let’s talk about the Shelter.

The Shelter is a fantastic creation. It requires 2 Wood, 2 Stone, and 2 Fiber to build. But once it’s up, it’s worth every bit of effort!

With the Shelter, up to three players can find protection from most weather events. It’s like having an umbrella for our group! And the best part? It lasts forever unless someone destroys it. Talk about sturdy!

Once the Shelter is built, each player who wants to be inside during Nighttime must place a finger on the Shelter card. It’s a cool way to keep track of who’s being protected. Safety first, right?

Now, let’s prepare for Night!

When night falls in Ravine, things get perilous. Before we start, we must complete the Foraging and Crafting activities. Then, it’s time to unveil a Night card and read it aloud.

This is where the Night’s effects come into play. Anyone who lacks a means to protect themselves becomes vulnerable.

Night Cards

Fortunately, players who have crafted items or possess Wreckage cards can use them as defense against the Night’s hazards. If permitted, they can even protect others.

If a player’s Hearts ever deplete to zero (0), they meet their demise. The remaining Forage or Wreckage cards are placed near the Fire and can be shared among the surviving players as they see fit.

Hey there! Let’s talk about what happens after the Night card is done. We need to check everyone’s health to see if someone needs to draw a Madness card.

What is Madness?

Hey there! So if you find yourself with only 1 Heart at the end of the Night, you’re gonna have to deal with a Madness card. Grab one, read what’s on it, and keep it on the table – you’ll need to follow those instructions.

#image.jpg
These are Madness Cards

Some Madness effects are temporary, lasting only for the Night. But others stick around until you regain health, and there are some that don’t go away until you’re either dead or rescued. Make sure to carefully read the Recovery section on the Madness card to understand what’s ahead.

Now, if your health drops to just 1 Heart during a Health Check (maybe because of another player’s Madness), the same rules apply – draw a Madness card. Once all the chaos of the Madness is settled, the dawn comes, and it’s time for the Day to start.

Note: If there is a situation where one player attacks another player during a Madness event, the attacked player can defend themselves by using a weapon if they have one. However, if the attacked player is hit with the weapon, they will lose 1 Heart.

The End of the Game

Your journey in Ravine will come to an end in one of two ways.

  1. If your entire group perishes before the “The Rescue” card is revealed, your doomed adventure in the wild will become a part of history. Maybe one day, a search party will discover your remains and tremble at the horrors that befell your group.
  2. If at least one member of your group manages to survive until the Rescue card is found, congratulations! You have successfully endured and will be rescued from Ravine. The survivors, battered and bruised, can return to society where they will receive enticing offers for book deals, movies based on your story, and even tabletop game adaptations of your thrilling ordeal.
