Pac-Man Game Rules

Welcome to the mysterious and thrilling world of Pac-Man! In this classic arcade game, you will navigate a maze filled with dots, power pellets, ghosts, and fruit. Your mission is to eat all the dots while avoiding the ghosts. Let’s dive into the exciting rules of Pac-Man and embark on this adventure together!

First, let’s talk about the main character – Pac-Man. You will be controlling Pac-Man, a cute yellow circle with a voracious appetite. Your goal is to guide Pac-Man around the maze, gobbling up all the dots in sight. But be careful! The maze is also home to four pesky ghosts – Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. They will chase after Pac-Man, determined to stop him in his tracks.

As you navigate the maze, keep an eye out for power pellets. These special items give Pac-Man the power to turn the tables on the ghosts. When Pac-Man eats a power pellet, the ghosts turn blue and become vulnerable. Now, it’s your chance to go on the offensive! Quickly devour the blue ghosts for extra points. But remember, this power-up only lasts for a limited time, so make the most of it while you can.

In addition to the dots and power pellets, you’ll also encounter fruit. These delicious treats appear periodically and provide bonus points when eaten. Keep an eye out for cherries, strawberries, apples, and other tasty fruits as you navigate the maze. Eating fruit not only adds to your score but also adds an extra element of surprise to the game.

But beware, my friend, navigating the maze won’t be a walk in the park. The ghosts are cunning and will try to corner you. If a ghost touches Pac-Man, you lose a life. But fear not! You start with several lives, and if you clear the maze of all the dots, you’ll move on to the next level with a fresh new set of challenges.

As you progress through the levels, the game becomes more challenging. The ghosts become faster and more determined to catch you. The mazes also become more intricate, with twists, turns, and dead ends. You’ll need quick reflexes and strategic thinking to outsmart the ghosts and earn a high score.

Remember, my friend, the key to success in Pac-Man is to be both daring and cautious. Plan your moves carefully, anticipate the ghosts’ behavior, and don’t be afraid to take risks when the opportunity arises. With practice and persistence, you’ll become a Pac-Man master in no time.

So, now that you know the rules, it’s time to embrace the Pac-Man adventure. Guide Pac-Man through the maze, eat the dots, avoid the ghosts, and aim for the highest score. Get ready for a thrilling gaming experience that will keep you entertained for hours on end. Good luck, and happy Pac-Man-ing!

Setting Up the Maze Game Board

Step 1: Assemble the Maze Game Board

The first thing you need to do is assemble the maze game board. It consists of 5 parts that need to be put together. Take your time and make sure all the pieces fit well. The board should be nice and sturdy so that it can withstand your adventurous gameplay.

Step 2: Place the Power Pellet Tokens

Once your board is set up, it’s time to place the power pellet tokens. These tokens will give you special powers throughout the game. Strategically place them in different areas of the maze to enhance your chances of success.

Step 3: Position the Ghost Pawns and Tokens

Next, position the ghost pawns and tokens. You have Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, along with their respective ghost cards. Each ghost has unique abilities and characteristics, so make sure to consider that when placing them on the board. Additionally, place the blue ghost tokens and ghost eye tokens in their designated spots.

Step 4: Distribute Scoring Pieces and Life Tokens

Now, distribute the scoring pieces and life tokens. These will help you keep track of your progress and remaining lives. Make sure each player receives their fair share.

Step 5: Prepare the Dice and Fruit Tokens

Prepare the yellow PAC-MAN dice and fruit tokens. These will add an extra layer of excitement and challenge to the game. Don’t forget to distribute them evenly among the players.

Step 6: Get Ready to Play!

Finally, grab your high score note pad and read through the instructions carefully. Make sure everyone understands the rules, objectives, and how to win the game. Once everything is set up and everyone is ready, it’s time to embark on your PAC-MAN adventure! Good luck!

  • Putting yellow pegs into the game board is simple. Just insert a yellow peg into each hole on the board. Push the pegs into the holes from the top until they pop in.
  • Make sure all the pegs are facing up. To do this, flip each plastic board piece over and press down on all the yellow pegs. They should pop up on the other side.

Each part of the maze game board has a letter (A, B, C, D, E).

To construct the game board, join the pieces together in alphabetical order, like in the picture.

Okay, here’s what you need to do:

First, flip the four Power Pellet tokens. They’re the ones that say “Power Pellet” on them. Then, put them in the empty spots in the maze. There’s a special place for each one of them, in the corners of the board.

Next, you’ll need to put the Character Pawns in place:
  • To activate sound effects, all you have to do is remove the white tab on PAC-MAN and press it down.
  • Start the game by placing PAC-MAN on the yellow START space.
  • Put Blinky (red) on the RED GHOST space above the ghost cage in the center.
  • Place the other three ghosts inside the ghost cage as indicated on the maze.
  • You’ll also need a set of 16 blue ghost tokens, which should be placed near the game board.

Ghost Cards:
  • To start the game, remove the (5) Yellow Level 2 cards from the deck and put them away (unless you are playing Arcade Mode or starting Level 2).
  • Take the remaining (35) Blue Level 1 cards, shuffle them, and place them face-down near the board. This stack is the Ghost deck.

Choosing Characters:
  • Each player will take turns being PAC-MAN.
  • Roll the dice to determine who gets to be PAC-MAN first. The player with the highest number goes first.
  • For the other players, decide who will control the ghosts. Here are some examples for different player counts:
    • In a 2 player game, one player controls all 4 ghosts while the other player is PAC-MAN.
    • In a 3 player game, each player controls 2 ghosts.
    • In a 4 player game, one player controls 2 ghosts and the other two players each control 1 ghost.
  • A Fun and Exciting Game for Everyone!

I want to tell you about a really cool game called PAC-MAN. It’s a game that you can play with your friends and family! In this game, there are five players, and each player gets to be a ghost. So, you and your friends can take turns chasing after PAC-MAN. Sounds like a blast, right?

What’s the Goal of the Game?

The goal of PAC-MAN is really simple. The players who are ghosts have to work together to try and catch PAC-MAN. They have to be really smart and quick, because PAC-MAN is trying to collect Pac-Dots and earn points. The player who gets the most points after each round as PAC-MAN is the winner!

    How Do You Play?

In this game, PAC-MAN only has one life. The job of PAC-MAN is to collect all the Pac-Dots in each part of the maze. There are four parts in total, so you have to complete them all to finish the level. PAC-MAN and the ghosts take turns moving around the maze. Here’s how it works:

    First, PAC-MAN takes a turn:

    1. So, I start by rolling 3 bright yellow dice. Next, I add up the numbers on those dice. Whatever the total is, that’s how many spaces I get to move in the maze. Each space is marked by a Pac-Dot (those cute little yellow pegs), a Power Pellet, or a gray circle.
    2. Now, here’s the cool part. I can move Pac-MAN forward, backward, up, or down through the maze. I can even go back and forth between spaces as much as I want. The key is to move the exact number of spaces that I rolled on the dice. But wait, there’s a catch. If Pac-MAN lands on a ghost, I lose the game. Unless… unless I’ve eaten a Power Pellet. I’ll tell you more about those in a bit!
    3. As Pac-MAN glides over a Pac-Dot that’s standing up, I have to press it down flat. This means that Pac-MAN has successfully grabbed that Pac-Dot. Keep track of those, they’re important!

Now, let’s see what the GHOSTS are up to:

    1. First, I’ll flip over the top Ghost card in the deck.
    2. Then, I’ll take a look at the turn order that the ghosts must follow. Each ghost card has a number on it that tells me how many spaces it needs to move.

Hey there! Let’s talk about some important rules in the game of PAC-MAN. I’ll explain them to you in a way that’s easy to understand.

    1. Ghosts can move forward, backward, up, and down. But they must always move in one continuous direction. They can’t suddenly go back to the last space they moved from.
    2. The ghosts can talk and plan their moves together. However, once a ghost pawn is moved, its turn is over.
    3. If you draw a Fruit Card, you’ll place a fruit token on PAC-MAN’s start space. PAC-MAN can eat this fruit for bonus points. After that, draw another Ghost Card for the ghosts’ turn. Remember, always place the cherries token first. When it’s eaten, place the strawberry token next. And when that’s eaten, place the orange token last. Each fruit is worth more points than the previous one (check out Scoring – Bonus Fruit). If you draw a fruit token card but all the fruit has already been eaten or if there’s already a fruit token on the maze, just discard that card and draw another one for the ghosts’ turn.

When I play PAC-MAN, the goal is simple: collect all the Pac-Dots on the board and complete the level without getting caught by a ghost. It sounds easy, but it is actually quite challenging!

    Rules for Movement

    • At the start of the game, the red ghost named Blinky always goes first. This is because the other ghosts need Blinky to leave the ghost cage before they can start their journey through the maze. If Blinky is not the first ghost to move, the other ghosts must wait for him to leave the cage before they can begin.
    • Ghosts cannot move through other ghosts. They must find their own path through the maze.
    • If a ghost is unable to move the full distance allowed, they will move as far as they can before their turn ends.
    • If a Ghost Eyes Token enters the ghost cage, the ghost’s movement will immediately stop. The ghost pawn will take the place of the token, and the ghost will have to wait until the next turn to move again.

The tunnel is a special pathway that connects the left and right sides of the game board. It’s like a secret passage that allows you to move your pawn from one side to the other. So, when you go through the tunnel, your pawn just keeps on going to the other side of the board. It’s pretty cool, huh?

Now, let’s talk about scoring in the game. When PAC-MAN eats a Power Pellet, something amazing happens. He becomes energized, like he got a power boost, and now he can eat ghosts! It’s like he’s on a ghost-hunting mission. And not only that, but you also score points when you eat those ghosts. How cool is that?

To activate a Power Pellet, all you need to do is eat it. Once you do that, PAC-MAN will be energized and ready to go on a ghost-eating spree. But remember, this special power only lasts for a limited time, so make the most of it while you can!

    1. When I control PAC-MAN, I can make him eat ghosts. This happens when he lands on a Power Pellet. But even though his movement stops, his turn isn’t over yet. In fact, he gets a chance to devour ghosts for the next 3 moves.
    2. When PAC-MAN lands on a Power Pellet, I turn over the token, revealing a gray circle (you can see this on the left side of the board).
    3. Now it’s time for PAC-MAN to move. I roll a yellow die and move him that number of spaces. Then, I roll the second yellow die and move him again. Finally, I roll the third die and complete PAC-MAN’s final move. While PAC-MAN is moving, he can gobble up ghosts, turning them into ghost eyes. These creepy creatures then have to return to their ghost cage and regenerate before coming back as full-fledged ghosts.
    4. PAC-MAN has eaten enough ghosts for now. After those 3 moves, he can’t devour any more ghosts (unless he eats another Power Pellet). His turn ends, and then the ghosts get their chance to chase after him once again.

    Devouring Ghosts:

If I am playing PAC-MAN and my character moves through a ghost that happens to be energized, something exciting happens. The ghost gets eaten and three things happen as a result:

    1. First, I want to talk about swapping that cool ghost pawn with its matching ghost eyes token. Make sure they have the same color! This ghost eyes token acts just like a pawn and has to use its next moves to go all the way back to the ghost cage. Once it’s there, it can turn back into a ghost and start chasing PAC-MAN again. One important thing is that ghost eyes can move through other players and other players can move through them until they respawn in the ghost cage.
    2. Now, let’s talk about when a ghost gets eaten. When that happens, the PAC-MAN player gets to collect a special Blue Ghost Token. This token goes straight into their score pile. And the best part? Each Blue Ghost Token is worth a whooping 200 points! Now that’s what I call a tasty treat.
    3. Finally, let’s talk about what PAC-MAN does after eating a ghost. PAC-MAN moves again to complete the number shown on the dice. So, roll high, folks!

If our hungry PAC-MAN lands on a ghost while moving thanks to a Power Pellet, that ghost is history. And guess what? The ghost pawn is removed from the board and replaced with its matching Ghost Eyes Token. That token goes right under PAC-MAN. Talk about a power move!

    Bonus Fruit:

When I want to eat a fruit token in PAC-MAN, I just need to move over it on the game board. It’s like a little treat waiting for me, but I don’t actually land on it like I do on the regular spaces in the maze.

Getting a High Score by Navigating the Maze:

Completing sections of a maze can be a challenging and exciting task. With twists and turns at every corner, figuring out the best path can be quite the brain teaser. But fear not, my friend, for I am here to guide you through the maze and help you achieve a high score.

Now, let’s talk strategy. When tackling the maze, it’s essential to keep a few things in mind. First off, take a moment to survey the entire maze, identifying any dead ends or obstacles that could slow you down. By doing this, you’ll have a clear understanding of what lies ahead.

As you start navigating the maze, remember to stay calm and collected. Panic will only lead you down the wrong path, my friend. Take your time and think carefully before making any moves. It’s a smart move to begin by solving smaller sections of the maze and gradually working your way towards the more complex parts. By doing this, you’ll build up your confidence and develop a better understanding of the maze’s structure.

Another tip I can offer you is to keep track of your progress as you go. You can do this by marking the sections of the maze you’ve already completed. Trust me, it’s easy to lose your way in the intricate design of the maze, so having a visual reminder of where you’ve been can be a real lifesaver.

But beware of those tricky dead ends! They can throw you off track and waste your precious time. However, don’t let them discourage you. Instead, use each dead end as a valuable learning opportunity. Analyze what went wrong, adapt your strategy, and move forward with a renewed sense of determination.

Remember, my friend, completing a maze is not just about reaching the end; it’s about doing so with efficiency and finesse. So take your time, think on your feet, and embrace the challenge with open arms. Each step you take brings you one closer to that coveted high score.

So, are you ready to take on the maze? I have faith in you, my friend. With a calm mind, a strategic approach, and a touch of perseverance, you’ll conquer that maze and achieve a high score that will leave others in awe. Now, let’s get to navigating, and may the maze be ever in your favor!

When you collect all the Pac-Dots in one section of the board, you receive a mini-board token as a reward. These tokens are worth 800 points each and can be placed in your score pile.

If you clear all four sections of the board, you’ll earn all four mini-board tokens and a total of 3,200 points!

However, if you fail to clear a section, you won’t earn the corresponding board token.

    Another Way to Score

If you’re an arcade purist, you may also want to count the Pac-Dots you collect in addition to the points mentioned above. In that case, each Pac-Dot is worth 40 points, and you can tally up your total score at the end of the game.

    Completing the Maze

When you successfully collect all the Pac-Dots and clear the entire board, you’ll advance to level 2!

When playing PAC-MAN, here’s what you need to do: First, I add up all the points I collected in Level 1 and write them down on the High Score note pad. Then, I return all the tokens I’ve collected back to their starting places around the board.

Next, I add the (5) Yellow Ghost cards to the Ghost Deck and reshuffle. These cards will make the ghosts a little bit faster than Level 1 when drawn.

After that, I reset the Maze and pop all the yellow pegs into the UP position. I also place all the character pawns in their starting positions. And don’t forget to flip over any Power Pellets to their starting positions.

To begin Level 2, I follow the same procedure as Level 1, with PAC-MAN going first. I continue playing until I clear the board or get caught by a ghost. If I manage to clear levels, I just reset the board and start the next level until I eventually get caught.

Eventually, the game comes to an end. And that’s how you play PAC-MAN!

So, here’s how the game works: when a ghost catches PAC-MAN, it’s game over. Quite simple, right?

Now, let me explain how you can keep score:

      • Add up all your points, including ghost tokens, fruit tokens, and mini-board pieces. Write this score down on the High Score notepad.
      • Once you’re done, it’s time to start a new game. Reset the Maze and pop all the yellow pegs into the UP position.
      • Now, let’s set up the characters. Place all the pawns in their starting positions. Don’t forget to reshuffle the Ghost cards and place them face-down.
      • For the next game, someone else gets to be PAC-MAN. To decide who it is, roll the die. Everyone who hasn’t been PAC-MAN yet gets a chance to roll.

Hey there! So here’s the deal: when it comes to playing Pac-Man, there are some really cool bonus fruits that you can grab to score some extra points. Check it out:

#image.jpgYou can get a 100 Points Bonus Fruit.

#image.jpgOr, if you’re lucky, you might stumble upon a 200 Points Bonus Fruit.

#image.jpgAnd if you’re really on fire, you can score a whopping 500 Points Bonus Fruit!

#image.jpgWatch out for the blue ghosts, though! If you gobble up a ghost, you’ll earn 200 points.

#image.jpgYou can also collect Mini-Board Tokens and get 800 points each.

#image.jpgAnd if you manage to complete a whole mini-board, you’ll score a massive 3,200 points!

      The End of the Game

Once everyone has taken a turn playing as PAC-MAN, we tally up the scores. Whoever has the highest score is crowned the ultimate winner!

So, are you ready to play Arcade Mode?

      #image.jpg

      Now I have 3 lives as PAC-MAN.

When I’m setting up, I place 2 PAC-MAN life tokens under the maze game board to show how many extra lives I have for the current game.

I add the (5) Yellow Level 2 Ghost cards to the Ghost Deck and shuffle them. These cards make the ghosts a little faster than Level 1 when I draw them.

I start and play the game as usual, but there are a few differences:

      #image.jpg

      • If a ghost catches me, I lose a life and I have to use one of my extra lives. I remove one of my PAC-MAN life tokens from the board to keep playing.
      • Alright, let’s get PAC-MAN ready for his next life by resetting all the ghost and PAC-MAN pawns to their original positions on the maze. Don’t touch the Pac-Dots; they stay where they are. Now we can keep playing on the same board.
      • But listen, when PAC-MAN runs out of lives, that’s it – game over. The Pac-Man player needs to tally up their points and write them down in the High Score note pad.
