ZENDO
Welcome to Zendo, an intriguing game that challenges your thinking skills! In Zendo, you’ll need to use your smarts to figure out the secret rule set by the Master. How do you do this? By building and examining different setups using game pieces. Your ultimate quest is to achieve enlightenment by making the right guess and winning the game!
GETTING STARTED
First, let’s set up the game. One player is designated as the Master, and their role will be crucial throughout the game. The other players, known as students, will learn from the Master’s wisdom. Each student receives a black stone and a white stone, which they’ll use to answer questions. As for the remaining black and white stones, they serve as marking stones. The green stones, on the other hand, are guessing stones.
As the game begins, all the guessing stones and marking stones are placed right in front of me, the player taking on the role of the Master. Meanwhile, all the pyramids find their place in the middle of the playing area, well within reach of all the students. It’s an intriguing setup, setting the stage for what’s to come.
Let the Game Begin
I’m the Master, and my first move is to choose a rule for all the students to follow. Once that’s decided, I’ll get to work building two koans – special arrangements of these pyramids. To signify that one of the koans has Buddha-nature, I’ll make sure to place a green stone on it. In case you’re new to the game, there’s a handy rulebook that provides some examples under the “Rules for Beginners” section.
When it’s my turn, I don’t compete with the other players—I’m more like a helper. Here’s how it works: I help a student build a new koan, and then they have to say “master” out loud. After that, they can try to figure out the rule.
To build a koan, the student can use the pyramids we have. When they say “master,” I’ll mark the koan to show that they’re done.
If a player wants to make a guess, they have to give me some guessing stones. And if they need to, they can ask me questions for clarification. I’ll do my best to disprove their guess by building another example. If I can’t disprove it, then they win!
But if the player is wrong, then it’s the next player’s turn. We keep playing like this until someone guesses the rule correctly.
GAME OVER
Hey there! I’m Ellie, and I live in Northeast Tennessee. I’m a big fan of all animals, from tiny critters to massive creatures. You know what else I love? Fantasy fiction novels and exploring the great outdoors. It’s amazing how much happiness those things bring me. I’m lucky to have a fantastic husband who adores me just as much as our two furry little ones. Being a part of this awesome community is something I cherish deeply.
Now let’s talk about a fascinating game. It’s called “Disproving the Master.” The game continues until the Master can’t find a way to refute a player’s official guess about the rule in question. It’s kind of like reaching a supreme moment of knowledge and winning the game. How cool is that?
So, in this game, players take turns trying to figure out a secret rule or pattern. The Master has this rule in mind and creates different examples that either follow or break the rule. They carefully choose these examples to confuse the players. It’s like a puzzle that needs to be solved.
As a player, you make guesses about what the rule might be by providing examples. The Master then responds by saying whether your example follows the rule or not. With each guess, you inch closer to discovering the rule. It’s a thrilling intellectual challenge that keeps you on your toes.
When the Master can’t disprove a player’s official guess anymore, that’s the end of the game. You can finally celebrate because you’ve achieved enlightenment and won! It’s a wonderful feeling when all your effort and logical thinking pay off.
This game is so engrossing because it blends logic, deduction, and critical thinking. It pushes your mind to its limits and sparks that joy of discovery. Plus, it’s an opportunity to test your reasoning skills and see how far you can go.
So, whether you’re a fan of brain teasers or simply love a good challenge, “Disproving the Master” is the game for you. Give it a try, and I promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s an awesome way to exercise your brain and have a ton of fun at the same time!
