WORD JUMBLE
Hey there! Have you ever played a game where you have to unscramble words? Well, let me tell you about an exciting game called Word Jumble!
SETUP
So, here’s how it works: each player is given a set of words that are all mixed up. The goal is to be the first one to unscramble all the words and earn 20 cards or points. Sounds fun, right?
Now, let’s talk about how to set up the game. To play Word Jumble, you’ll need some words that are all jumbled up. You can use a word scramble generator or even come up with your own words. Just make sure they are a bit challenging but still solvable.
Once you have your scrambled words ready, you can assign them to each player. Make sure each player has their own set of words to unscramble. This will make the game more exciting and competitive.
Now that everyone has their words, it’s time to start unscrambling! On your mark, get set, go! Race against the other players to see who can unscramble their words first. Remember, you’ll earn 20 cards or points for each correctly unscrambled word.
SCORE AND WIN
When all the players have unscrambled their words, it’s time to count up the cards or points. Add up the total number of cards or points each player has earned. The player with the most cards or points wins the game!
Word Jumble is a super fun way to challenge your brain and test your vocabulary skills. It’s a game that will keep you on your toes and make you think fast. So gather your friends or family, and get ready for a thrilling word unscrambling adventure!
Let’s begin by shuffling and arranging the deck of cards you’ve chosen. Place them face down in the center of the play area.
Now, take the four identification cards and place them face down. Each player will pick one to determine their assigned unscrambling options. Put the unpicked cards back in the box.
Each of us needs to gather a set of alphabet/letter tiles that match the color of our identification card. Any unused letter tiles should be left in the box.
Now, let’s display the black letter tiles (which consist of two sets of the alphabet) in the middle of the play area. Make sure they are right side up and not stacked on top of each other. They should be easily reachable and visible to all players. This will be our letter tile pool.
Before we start, grab a stopwatch or use your phone to set a one-minute time frame for each round.
GAMEPLAY
So, here’s how the game works. First, we need to choose someone to go first. It’s totally random, so anyone could be the lucky one!
Once we’ve got our first player, they’ll pick a card and read out the definition. That’s what we’re going to be unscrambling.
Now, the fun part begins. Everyone races to unscramble the words and spell them using their letter tiles. But here’s the twist: you can only unscramble the words that are assigned to your identification cards. No cheating!
If you’re having trouble forming a word, don’t worry. You can take some extra letters from the tile pool. But remember, you have to put them back after each round. For example, let’s say Player D needed an extra E to spell their word correctly. They can take it from the pool, but they have to return it later.
And here’s the tricky part. Everyone else might be scrambling to find the same letters you need. It’s a race against the clock and each other!
When we play the word scramble game, the objective is to be the first player to unscramble the assigned word. To indicate that I’ve successfully unscrambled my word, I raise my hands off the table and exclaim “done!”.
At this point, the other players pause to verify that I’ve correctly identified and unscrambled the word. If my answer is correct, I get to keep the card and earn a point.
However, if I make a mistake in identifying my assigned word or if I spell the correct word incorrectly, I lose my next turn as a penalty for disrupting the round.
The cards that I win are placed face down beside me, forming a stack to represent the number of points I’ve earned.
If no player is able to unscramble their words before the time runs out, nobody claims the card or earns a point. Instead, the card is placed in a separate pile called the discard pile, facing down.
When it comes to playing the game, the first player will flip a card and read it out loud. Then, it’s my turn to take a shot. After that, it’s the next player’s turn and we continue in a clockwise direction. Speed and accuracy are both important when it comes to spelling because they determine who gets to keep the card.
The goal is to unscramble 20 words that have been assigned to each player. Once I unscramble all of my words, I earn 20 points and become the winner of the game.
END OF GAME
The game comes to an end when a player reaches 20 points and is declared the winner. Or, we can decide to set a lower point goal than 20. In that case, the player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
ALTERNATE PLAY FOR YOUNGER PLAYERS
If you’re playing with younger kids, we follow the same setup rules but we don’t use a timer. Instead, the first player picks up a card and reads the definition. Then, all the players try to correctly spell any of the words from the options.
You know what? I’ve got an awesome game idea that I can’t wait to share with you! It’s called “Spell It Right.” Here’s how it works: the first person who correctly identifies and spells a word of their choice wins a card and earns a point. Simple, right?
But wait, there’s more! The game continues until someone collects 10 cards, and guess what? They become the ultimate winner of the game! How cool is that?
Let me tell you a bit about Bassey Onwuanaku, the genius behind “Spell It Right.” She’s a Nigerian Edugamer who is on a mission to make learning fun for kids in Nigeria. Bassey runs a unique educational games cafĂ© all by herself, which makes her quite impressive.
Not only does Bassey love children, but she’s also crazy about board games. She’s even interested in wildlife conservation! Talk about a multi-talented person. In fact, she’s even trying her hand at designing educational board games. How awesome is that?
So, if you’re looking for a game that will challenge your spelling skills and keep you entertained for hours on end, “Spell It Right” is the way to go. Trust me, once you start playing, you won’t be able to stop!
