WIT AND REASON

Welcome to Wit and Reason, the game that challenges your strategic thinking and knowledge! In this game, it’s crucial to have a good understanding of what cards your opponent holds, so you can make smart decisions about which cards to play. The objective of Wit and Reason is to strategically use your cards to reach a total of thirty-one points.

SETUP

Before we dive in, let’s set up the game. One player will be in charge of the black cards, while the other takes the red cards. To determine who goes first, draw a card each and the player with the highest score gets the privilege to make the initial move!

GAMEPLAY

In this game, we take turns putting cards from our hand into the center. Each card has a value, with the ace being worth one, the numbered cards being worth their face value, and the face cards worth ten points.

When it’s your turn, you have to say the total value of the cards in the center. You can’t play a card if it would make the total more than thirty-one points. If you don’t have a card you can play, you have to pass.

We keep playing like this until someone plays a card that makes the total exactly thirty-one points. That person wins!

ENDING THE GAME

The game ends when someone plays a card that brings the total to exactly thirty-one points. That person is the winner! If neither player can play a card without going over thirty-one points, then the game ends in a tie.
