WINDMILL
Hey there! Let me introduce you to an exciting card game called Windmill. In Windmill, the goal is to move all the cards onto five special piles, called foundation piles. These foundation piles start with a King card and are built in descending order, regardless of their suit. To help you along the way, there are also eight reserve piles.
Now, here’s the fun part. While following the strictest rules, you can only play one card at a time from a King foundation. However, the game becomes even more enjoyable if you allow yourself to play more than one card in a row. It’s your call!
THE CARDS & THE LAYOUT
To get started, let’s organize the cards. Remove one Ace from the deck and place it at the center of the playing area – this will be the first card of the foundation pile. Then, put eight reserve cards, two on each side of the Ace. These cards will resemble the blades of a windmill.
As the first four Kings are revealed, place them in the corners of the windmill and build them in descending order, regardless of their suit. The remaining cards in the deck will be used as the draw pile.
Now, let’s move on to playing the game.
THE PLAY
The goal is to build the Ace foundation by continuously adding cards in ascending order, regardless of their suit. Once you have built a pile from Ace to King, you will start a new pile with the next available Ace, and so on, until all 52 cards are in the foundation. For the King foundation, you will build the pile in descending order, regardless of suit.
So, let’s start by taking a closer look at the reserve cards. You can move any available reserve cards to the Ace or King foundations. And if there are any empty spaces in the reserve cards, you can fill them up with cards from the draw pile. Remember, you can only fill one space at a time from the draw pile.
If you have a card from the draw pile that can’t be played, don’t worry. Just place it in the waste pile. The top card of the waste pile is always available for play. And once you have started the waste pile, you can use it to fill any remaining empty spaces in the reserve cards.
Now, let’s talk about the King’s foundation piles. Once you have built a King’s foundation pile all the way down to an Ace, that pile is complete. You can’t add any more cards to it. The top card of a King’s pile can be moved to the Ace foundation, but you can’t move more than one card in a row. After moving a card from a King’s foundation, the next card you play to the Ace foundation must come from somewhere else.
So, how do you win this game?
Well, it’s simple. You need to build up the Ace foundation in ascending order, starting from the lowest card and going all the way up to 52 cards. Along with that, you also need to create four complete King foundations. Once you have achieved both of these objectives, congratulations! You have won the game. And remember, there are no redeals available, so make every move count!
