WATERWORKS
Welcome to Waterworks, the game that brings wet and wild fun straight to your table! Get ready to fix leaky pipes and sabotage other players’ pipelines to emerge victorious. Can you be the first to complete your pipeline? It’s time to dive in and find out!
SETUP
Let’s get started with the setup. First, we need to remove all spout and valve cards from the deck. Each player will receive one spout card and one valve card. Any extra cards can be set aside for now. Don’t forget to provide each player with two metal wrenches.
Now, have each player place their valve card in a vertical position, facing up, on their right side of the playing area. Let’s shuffle the entire deck and deal five cards to each player, facing down. The rest of the cards go in the draw pile, which should be placed in the middle of the table, forming the “bathtub”.
GAMEPLAY
Hey there! Ready to start the game? Just choose a player to kick things off. Here’s how it goes:
During your turn, you have three options. The first option is to place a good pipe card next to your valve card, working on building your pipeline. The second option is to play a leaky pipe card next to another player’s valve card. And the third option is to simply discard a card from your hand.
Once you’ve made your move, you can draw a card to make sure you always have five cards in your hand. Then it’s the next player’s turn, and the game continues around the group from right to left. As the game progresses, more actions become available.
Now, there are a couple of rules to keep in mind. All the cards need to be placed vertically so that the pipes connect properly. You can turn the cards around 180 degrees, as long as they stay vertical. And remember, you can’t play a card that completely blocks a pipeline.
Leaks
When playing the game, I might try to sabotage another player’s pipeline by causing a leak. Leaky pipes can be placed on top of or next to the last card in an opponent’s pipeline. However, if I choose to stack a leaky pipe on top of another card, it must have the exact same shape.
I can play a leaky pipe next to a copper pipe, but I can’t place it on top of a copper pipe since copper pipes are resistant to damage. Keep in mind that only one leaky pipe can be exposed on a pipeline at a time. Once a pipe is repaired, it becomes immune to further damage.
Fixing Leaks
When you’re faced with a leaky pipe, you have a couple of options for repair. First, you can place a good pipe card on top of the leaky pipe card. To do this, the pipes must be an exact match. Alternatively, you can place one of your metal wrenches on top of the leaky pipe. Once a wrench is played, it can’t be moved or taken off. Keep in mind that you can’t add any pipes to your pipeline until the leaky pipe is fixed.
GAME OVER
The game will keep going until a player successfully connects their faucet to their spout using the required number of cards, or even more. Don’t forget that water needs to flow down from the spout, so this might affect the number of cards you need. The first player to achieve this is declared the winner!
