A Journey Through Time

Welcome to Timeline, a captivating game that takes you on a historical adventure! In this game, each of the 109 cards represents a different event from history. The front of each card displays an illustration along with the event’s name, while the back reveals additional information, including the date of the event.

Get ready to challenge your knowledge as you put your cards in order according to their dates. The goal is to create a timeline that accurately reflects the chronology of historical events.

Timeline is a versatile game suitable for both teenagers and adults who enjoy a good mental workout. Whether you’re a history buff or simply curious about the past, this game will test your understanding of different historical periods.

Let’s Get Started

The first step is to shuffle the cards thoroughly to ensure randomness and excitement. Once the cards are shuffled, each player will receive a specific number of cards, depending on the number of players:

• If there are 2-3 players, each player will receive 6 cards.
• If there are 4-5 players, each player will receive 5 cards.
• If there are 6-8 players, each player will receive 4 cards.

Make sure to keep your cards face down and resist the temptation to peek at the back, which reveals the crucial date information.

Now that you have your cards, it’s time to put your knowledge to the test. Take turns placing your cards in the timeline by correctly guessing the event’s date compared to the existing events on the table. The more events you correctly place, the closer you get to victory!

Note: players can agree to change the number of cards dealt based on their experience. The rest of the cards are placed face down on the table to create a draw pile.

The first card from the deck is then drawn and placed in the center of the playing area, face up. This card marks the starting point for the timeline, where players will place their own cards.

HOW TO PLAY TIMELINE

Alright, here’s how we play Timeline. I’ll be the first player since I’m the youngest. We’ll take turns going clockwise. Now, I need to put one of my cards next to the first card that was placed down at the start:

• If I think that the event on my card happened before the event on the original card, I’ll put my card to the left of the original card.
• If I think that the event on my card happened after the event on the original card, I’ll put my card to the right of the original card.

Once I’ve placed my card, I’ll turn it over so that the date is facing up. This is to make sure that the date on my card matches its position in the timeline:

• If my card is in the right place, I’ll leave it there with the date facing up.

If you misplace a card, don’t worry! Just set it aside in the box. Then, draw a new card from the draw pile and place it face down in front of you, along with your other cards.

Now it’s the next player’s turn. They are sitting to the left of the first player.

If the first player placed their card correctly, the second player has three options. They can place their card to the left of the two cards already on the table, to the right of them, or between them.

If the first player didn’t place their card correctly, the second player only has two options, just like the first player did.

If the second player places their card correctly, it stays on the table and everyone can see it. The timeline of the game is then adjusted so that there is a space between each card.

Let me tell you how the game goes. First, everyone gets a set of cards. Then, one player starts and tries to put their card in the timeline. The catch is, they have to figure out where the card fits in relation to the other cards already in play. It’s like a puzzle!

Note: When playing the game, you may come across a card with the same date as one that is already on the table. In this situation, you must place the new card beside the existing one, regardless of the order.

HOW TO WIN

If, at the end of a round, you are the only player who has correctly placed your last card, you will be declared the immediate winner. If multiple players have correctly placed their last card in the same round, they will all remain in the game, while the others are eliminated. The remaining players will then receive a new card from the deck and continue playing until only one player has correctly placed their card.
