THE LOST WORDS

Hey there! Have you heard of The Lost Words card game? It’s pretty cool, and it’s based on a super popular book by Robert Macfarlane. Not only is it a fun game to play, but it’s also a great way to learn!

See, The Lost Words is all about bringing back the wonders of nature that have been forgotten. The cards are beautifully illustrated, and they can really make you think and spark all kinds of interesting conversations. It’s amazing how a simple card game can open up a whole new world!

SETUP

So, here’s how you set up the game. First, you divide the cards into two different decks based on the back design. One deck is for the Nature Cards, and the other deck is for the Spell Cards and Special Cards. Make sure to shuffle each deck separately to mix things up.

Hey there! Let’s get started with the game by giving each player four Nature Cards. You’ll place them facing up in a row in front of you. Oh, and we’ll need two extra Nature Cards for the middle of the table, so go ahead and put those face up there. Any extra cards can be put back in the box.

Now, from the other deck, I’ll deal three cards to each player. Keep them facing down so no one can peek! Take the rest of the cards and put them in the middle of the playing area. Make sure to reveal the top card beside the deck. That will be our discard pile. And with that, we’re all set to begin playing!

Ready to Play?

In this game, anyone can start. When it’s my turn, I have two choices. I can either play a Spell Card on my Nature Card or play a Special Card. The Spell Card I choose must match the Nature Card it is played on. It’s like a puzzle!

If I decide to play a Special Card, I have to follow the instructions on the card. Some Special Cards can even affect the other players. After I play a card, if it doesn’t match with a Nature Card, I put it in the discard pile. Then, I get to draw a new card from the pile to add to my hand.

We keep playing like this, taking turns, until someone matches a Spell Card with all four of their Nature Cards. When that happens, the game is over, and the player who did it first wins!

Game Over!

The game reaches its conclusion once you have successfully paired all four of your Nature Cards with a Spell Card. When this happens, congratulations, you’re the winner!
