THE GAME: A Thrilling Adventure in Card Strategy

Hey there! Welcome to the world of The Game—a captivating card game that’s won numerous awards and captured the hearts of players everywhere. Published by Pandasaurus Games in 2015, The Game is a thrilling adventure for 1-5 players. Trust me, once you start playing, you won’t be able to stop!

In The Game, your mission is simple: work together to win by playing as many cards as possible into the discard piles. But here’s the catch: communication is kept to a minimum, and you can only play cards in ascending or descending order. It’s a challenge that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This game is incredibly versatile too—you can enjoy it on your own or with a full group of five players. Whether you’re flying solo or teaming up with friends, The Game promises an unforgettable experience every time you play.

So, let’s talk about this game I heard about. It’s got these four cards called foundation cards. Now, there are two of these 1 cards, and another two of these 100 cards. You start the game by placing these cards on the table, and that’s where the foundations begin!

The game includes ninety-eight cards numbered from 2 to 99. You and the other players will take turns adding these cards to the discard piles. The order in which you add them will depend on whether you’re going up or down.

GETTING READY

Alright, let’s get this game set up! To start, we’ll need to make a foundation column with the 1’s and 100’s. The 1’s will go on top, followed by the 100’s at the bottom. As we play, we’ll create discard piles next to these foundation cards. For the 1’s, we’ll build the discard piles in ascending order, and for the 100’s, we’ll build them in descending order.

Next, we’ll shuffle all the numbered cards and deal them out to each player, based on how many people are playing. Here’s the breakdown:

If it’s just one player, they’ll get 8 cards. For two players, each player will receive 7 cards. And if we have three, four, or five players, everyone gets 6 cards.

Now, take the remaining cards and place them face down as a draw pile on the left side of the foundation column.

And now, let the game begin!

We all know that teamwork makes the dream work. So, let’s work together and keep the game flowing smoothly. Good luck!

When we play a game, we want to work together and win. In this game, we can talk to each other to help us win, but we can’t say the exact numbers we have. So, I might say, “Don’t put any cards on the first pile” or “I have some great cards for the second pile.” This kind of talking is allowed because it helps our team.

Before we start playing, we need to decide who goes first. We can talk to each other to decide, but we can’t say the exact numbers we have. After the first player takes their turn, we keep playing, going to the left until the game is over.

Now that we know how to communicate and take turns, let’s play and have fun!

When we play the game, we’ll create a discard pile next to each foundation card. The piles next to the 1 cards go in order from smallest to largest, while the piles next to the 100 cards go in the opposite order, from largest to smallest. If I want to play a card on a pile that’s going up in order, the new card has to be bigger than the previous one. And if I want to play a card on a pile that’s going down in order, the new card has to be smaller. These are the rules we have to follow, unless someone can do The Backwards Trick.

When it’s my turn, I have to play at least two or more cards to the discard piles. If I have a lot of cards in my hand, I can even play all of them. I’m not limited to just one discard pile on my turn. I can play as many cards as I can to as many discard piles as I need to, as long as I follow the rules for building the piles. But here’s the catch – if I can’t play at least 2 cards, the game ends.

Let’s try the Backwards Trick!

The Backwards Trick is a cool move that lets me “reset” the pile and play more cards.

On the 1 piles, I can play a card that is exactly 10 less than the previous card. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a 16, I can play my 6 and perform The Backwards Trick.

Wow, let me tell you about this fascinating card game called The Backwards Trick! It’s all about finding the perfect card to play and outsmarting your opponents.

Here’s how it goes: The game starts with 100 piles of cards. The top card of each pile is face up for everyone to see. Now, if I have a card that is exactly 10 more than the previous card on the discard pile, I can play it. For example, if the top card on the discard pile is 87, I can play a 97 and pull off The Backwards Trick!

It’s all about strategy and making smart moves. If I play my cards right (pun intended!), I can chain together multiple Backwards Tricks in a row. Imagine the excitement of surprising your opponents with a series of perfectly timed card plays!

WHEN THERE ARE NO MORE CARDS LEFT IN THE DRAW PILE

Once all the cards have been drawn from the draw pile, the game continues without anyone drawing any more cards. We keep playing until someone wins or there are no more moves to make.

HOW THE GAME ENDS

When a player doesn’t have at least 2 cards they can play from their hand, the game is over. If a player runs out of cards in their hand and there are no more cards in the draw pile, the other players keep playing until someone wins or one of the players with cards left can’t make a move either.

THE POINTS

If we end the game with 10 or fewer cards left in our hands, we can consider it a good effort.

HOW TO WIN

We win the game when we successfully play all 98 cards and place them in the discard piles.
