The Carpet

Hi there! I’m Mark Chapman, a children’s writer, board game geek, and school teacher. On my YouTube channel, Bananas 4 Books & Board Games, I create and share exciting children’s stories and family-friendly board/card games.

Unweaving the Magic: The goal of The Carpet is to test your skill in unraveling a carpet of cards. Trust me, it’s incredibly satisfying!

Solo or Spectator Fun: This game is designed for one player, but it’s so captivating that spectators won’t be able to resist joining in!

Deck Details: You’ll need a standard 52-card deck for this game.

Card Hierarchy: The cards are ranked in this order: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King.

Solitaire Magic: The Carpet falls under the category of solitaire games.

For All Ages: Whether you’re playing alone or with friends and family, The Carpet is sure to entertain everyone.

HOW TO PLAY

Hey there! Let me show you how to play this awesome game. The goal is to put the cards in ascending order on the Ace foundation cards, all the way up to the Kings.

Now, let’s get started! You can take or unweave the cards from the carpet, if you can, by placing them on the Ace foundations at the top. For example, in my example, you can place the 2 and 3 of spades onto the Ace of spades. And you can also place the 2, 3, 4, and 5 of diamonds onto the Ace of diamonds

So, here’s what happens when you can’t use any more cards from the carpet: you get to go through the stock of cards, one by one. You have a couple of options when it comes to these cards – you can weave them right into the carpet, or you can place them on the foundation decks. But! If you can’t put a stock card in either of those places, it goes to the waste pile. The good news is you can grab the top card from the waste pile anytime, as long as there’s room in the carpet or it can go on the foundation decks. Just remember, you can’t stack cards in the carpet.

WINNING THE GAME

The game comes to an end when you’ve gone through the entire stock deck once. The other way to win is by moving all the cards to the foundation decks. Keep playing until you reach one of these winning scenarios!

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE

Winning this game is actually quite easy since the only way to lose is by trapping the cards you need in the waste pile. But if you want to make it a little more challenging, you can reduce the size of the carpet. For example, try playing with 3 rows of 4 cards. This will test your skills and make the game more interesting.

If you’re looking for a more exciting version of the game, you can try playing the Crazy Quilt variation. This variation, also known as the Indian Carpet or Japanese Rug, involves using two decks of 52 cards. You will also set aside four Kings and four Aces to create eight foundation decks. The Aces will be arranged in ascending order, while the Kings will be arranged in descending order. Then, deal out 64 cards face-up, alternating between portrait and landscape orientations to give the carpet a more authentic look. It’s a lot of fun and adds an extra level of challenge to the game!
