The bloody inn game rules – how to play the bloody inn

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to The Bloody Inn!

Hey there, I’m your guide to this diabolical world of innkeeping. Today, you’ll be stepping into the shoes of a member of a twisted family of innkeepers. Now, don’t let the whole “family” thing fool you – we take competition very seriously here. In fact, we’re more likely to stab each other in the back than to have each other’s backs. You see, in this game, there can only be one winner. So get ready to outwit, outplay, and outstab your relatives.

Setting Up the Game

Alrighty, let’s set the stage for the chaos. Each player starts with two peasant cards and a player aid. Consider these your starting hand, your trusty companions in your quest for bloody success. The traveler deck will have to be customized based on the number of players. We’ll remove some cards from the deck, shuffle ’em up, and create the entrance deck. This deck goes to the left of the board, right by the entrance of the inn, with the living side facing up.

When we play this game, we get to choose our own color, which will represent us throughout the game. We start by collecting eight room service tokens and a disk in our color. We place our disk on the 5F space on the Wealth Track. Each of us also gets a 10F Check, and the rest of the checks go into a supply.

Next, we each take a Key token and place it on an unclaimed room. The player who is the greediest gets to take the Starter Player token, and then we’re ready to start the game!

How to Play

The game is divided into two seasons, and each season has multiple rounds. Each round is made up of three phases: the welcome phase, the action phase, and the end of the round phase.

When the game starts, I will be the first player to welcome the travelers for the round. I’ll draw a card from the Entrance Stack and put the traveler in a room that nobody is in. I’ll repeat this process until all the rooms are full.

Then, it’s time for the night phase. We’ll take turns going around the group, starting with me and moving clockwise. Each of us will perform two actions: the first action and then the second action in the second rotation. We have five options for our actions: we can bribe a guest, kill a guest, build an annex, bury a corpse, or pass.

When it’s my turn to take an action, I’ll choose one of my guest cards to play. Each card has different effects, so I’ll have to think carefully about which card to use. After playing the chosen card, I’ll get my guest cards back and carry out the action. It’s important to choose my actions wisely and strategize to win the game.

Once everyone has finished their two actions, the round comes to a close. This is known as the morning, and it’s an important phase in the game. During this phase, several things happen: there is a police investigation, travelers depart, and wages are paid.

The police investigation is a crucial part of the morning. As a player, you need to make sure that any unburied corpses are taken care of. If you fail to pay the gravedigger, you risk getting arrested, which can be quite troublesome.

When a guest leaves your establishment, you earn money. For every room in your color, you receive one franc. The guest’s card is placed in the exit stack with the living side up. Keep in mind that you need to pay any accomplices you may have or decide to let them go.

Once all these tasks are completed, the Starter Player token is passed to the player sitting on the left of the first player. And just like that, a new round can begin.

END OF GAME

The game ends when the stack at the entrance is empty for the second time. We can finish the current round, but then we have to calculate the scores. If any player has any unburied corpses, they have to pay 10 francs for each of them. On the other hand, each player can gain 10 francs for each check they find on their wealth track. The player with the most money at the end of the game is the winner!
